Chapter Text
Operation Strix had been going on for seven years. Twilight had managed not to blow his cover throughout that timespan. ‘Loid Forger’ is now a senior psychiatrist at Berlint hospital. In another year or two, he’d likely be promoted as the head of the department. He has a daughter, who is now in her first year of high school at Eden Academy, and a lovely wife who works as an office clerk at Berlint City Hall. From an outsider’s point of view, the Forger family was peaceful, loving, and normal. But they weren’t. Because everything is built on a lie. A sham.
Loid rose from his bed with a groan. “I need to make breakfast,” He straightened up, stretching his back until it clicks and walks towards his bedroom door. Turning the knob, he pushes it open.
“Good morning, Loid-san” Yor greeted, stepping out of the bathroom. Her bangs are pulled up by a hairband, and she was gently patting her face with a small towel, wearing her pink pajama pants and white tank top.
“Good morning Yor-san,” Loid replied, walking past her towards the kitchen. He opens a cupboard to get a mug and sets it on the platform of the coffee machine. He clicks it on, and the machine starts brewing. “Is Anya still asleep?”
“Yes, I think so.” Yor replies, following him to the kitchen. She pulls butter, eggs, and sausages from the refrigerator, placing them on the kitchen counter. “Should I wake her up?”
Loid sips his coffee. “Please. Then I’ll get started on breakfast.”
Yor nods, a faint blush adorning her cheeks.
Both have gotten so used to this. Domesticity. Quiet comfort.

Dr. Loid Forger leaned back in his office chair. His glasses reflected the digital files sprawled across the screen in front of him. He’s been sorting files since the moment he arrived at his office. Getting promoted to senior psychiatrist gave him more leniency in meeting patients and time for himself, but that’s not the case because he wasn’t a real psychiatrist. For now, he does what he always does when no mission is assigned: wait. He sighed as he dragged another file into a folder labeled “patients done,” a decoy for any prying eyes, though in his code it meant “classified”. To outsiders, it looked like a routine file of patients he had met; to him, it held secrets. Luckily, his assistant in the hospital also works undercover to aid him with his missions, but he can’t be too sure, as he has a lot of enemies.
“Dr. Loid Forger,”
Speak of the devil.
“Yes?” He responds
A slender woman with a white bob enters, holding a phone. “There’s someone on the line for you,” Fiona passes the phone to him, her fingers lightly grazing his palms. He didn’t notice, but Fiona did.
“It’s Professor Henderson from Eden Academy,” She adds.
Loid suddenly felt a twist forming in his stomach, thinking it might be something about Anya again. He places the phone to his ear, and spoke “Ah, Professor Henderson. How may I help you?”
The man clears his throat, “Dr. Loid Forger, it’s been a while. I’ll get straight to the point as I’m aware you are a very busy man.”
“Quite so,” Loid chuckles, sitting up straight. “Is something the matter with Anya?” His voice laced with worry.
“Ms. Forger is doing well; do not be concerned.” Henderson sounds amused. “It is you whom I need a request from.”
Loid relaxes, leaning back in his chair. “And what might that be?”
“Eden Academy has hired a new school counselor,” Henderson explains, “but unfortunately, she still lacks experience. The previous school counselor left abruptly, and someone must guide her. She needs a mentor.”
Loid nods in understanding. “And you believe I’m the ideal candidate?”
Professor Henderson cleared his throat again and said, “Yes. It will only last 3 months, or less, depending on your judgment. You will have an office beside hers, and faculty and students may consult with you if needed. However, students should be encouraged to go to the new counselor first. Of course, you will be reimbursed.”
Loid hums thoughtfully. Suddenly, a pop-up appears on his computer screen: “1 mail received,”. He hovered the cursor for a moment, then clicked Read. A part of him already knows who it’s from.

He smirks as he reads the code. Of course, they’re listening.
“Dr. Forger? Are you still there?” Henderson’s voice interrupts.
Loid rubs his forehead, reading the message again. “Yes…well, I’m happy to be of assistance, Professor Henderson.”
Henderson approves. “Simply elegant.”

Loid comes home after a long day of arranging his schedule and speaking with supervisors. His sudden request went on smoothly due to his likable personality, and obviously, with strings being pulled here and there. He prepares hamburger steak, Anya’s favorite, traditionally reserved for celebrations. He broke the news at dinner.
“That’s wonderful news, Loid-san!” Yor beams at him, clasping her hands.
“Thank you, Yor.” Loid smiles at her warmly before he glances over at Anya beside him. “You don’t look so happy,”
“I am, Papa. Just worried that you might nag me whenever you see me,” Anya replies, putting a piece of steak in her mouth.
“Well, if you act properly, I won’t nag you in front of your friends.”
“Anya’s going to get heartburn,”
