Work Text:
It was a beautiful winter day, Christmas was right around the corner, and the tiniest bit of snow was falling from the sky. The cold was starting to creep in, and as it was a Saturday, the streets were almost empty.
Scott was sitting at his window looking out at the beautiful winter scene that the campus grounds had turned into. He had always loved the wintertime and the way the world looked when it was covered in snow. He could have sat there forever, just watching the snow fall, if it wasn’t for the knock at his door that snapped him out of his thoughts.
He got up and walked over to open it. Once he did, he was immediately greeted by a person holding two bags of what appeared to be groceries in a not very efficient way. The bags seemed overfilled, without seeming to actually have a lot in them, probably due to poor packing skills. And due to that and the fact that he wore a red scarf, the man's face was mostly covered.
Scott couldn’t help but snicker at the man he knew to be his boyfriend in front of him, as the other tried to greet him. Or at least Scott assumed that’s what Cam was trying to do, as he couldn’t distinguish any words since the scarf that Cam wore muffled out his voice.
Scott quickly decided to help him out and scooped one of the bags from his arms. While doing so, he also pulled down Cam's scarf so that he could understand what he was saying and pressed a quick peck on his cheek. His actions caused Cam to turn a very nice shade of pink, which made Scott feel satisfied with what he did. He started to go to the kitchen while saying over his shoulder, “Don’t forget to take off your snowy boots; I just cleaned yesterday.”
“Obviously I wasn’t going to forget that,” Cam said, though he definitely would have, as he quickly removed his boots and closed the door so that he could follow Scott to the kitchen.
They both set down the bags on the kitchen island, and Scott started unpacking the groceries as Cam started talking about nothing in particular. He was just talking without showing any signs of stopping any time soon. And as Scott finished putting all the groceries on the table, he felt gently annoyed. So Scott simply walked over to Cam and pulled his scarf back over his mouth, muffling his boyfriend's voice.
"There, much better,“ he teased.
"Hey! You can’t just real-life mute me with my scarf!” Cam protested as he pulled his scarf back down.
"Why not?“ Scott asked, his voice dripping with faked innocence as he pulled the scarf back up.
"Stop that!" Cam said after he pulled it down again. Scott didn’t seem to listen, as he just did it again.
"You know what? I'll just take off the scarf. How about that?" Cam retorted as he moved back towards the entryway so he could place his scarf on the coat rack.
Scott let out a soft chuckle before saying, "Take off your coat as well, before you start overheating."
"Already did that," Cam said as he came back and leaned on the edge of the kitchen island before asking, "What cookies are we making today anyway?"
"I send you the recipe along with the list of ingredients that you got," Scott answered as he got the bowls from the cabinet.
"Well, maybe I didn’t read the recipe; it was long, okay?" Cam tried defending himself.
"It’s literally the title.“ Scott laughed. He always thought it was funny when his boyfriend, a guy who was studying literature for his final exams, simply refused to read even the tiniest amount of words. Before he simply told him, „We’re making vanilla cookies.“
"Sounds delicious. Where do we begin?“ Cam commented.
"You'll begin by washing your hands, and then it seems that we need to mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder and butter," Scott read out from the recipe that he had opened on his phone.

After they had finished the dough, they put it in the fridge to rest for 40 minutes. They had started cleaning up a bit of the mess that they (mostly Cam) made before already setting out the biscuit cutters and the extra flour.
"My love, how long till you suppose that the dough will be ready?“ Cam asked.
"About five more minutes," Scott stated after he looked at the timer on his phone.
"So would you reckon that we have enough time for a small kiss?" Cam sheepishly asked.
„I don’t know, do we~“ Scott asked in a flirtatious tone.
"I think we do," Cam said as he moved closer. Scott couldn’t hide the smile that crept up on his face (Cam’s behaviour was just too funny at times, but there’s no way he’d ever admit that to him).
Scott reached for Cam’s face and pulled him close enough that they could feel each other’s breath on their faces. And after a few seconds of not moving any closer, Cam seemed impatient and gently grabbed Scott’s waist to pull him closer before finally (if you were to ask him) closing the distance between their lips.
After a bit Scott pulled away from Cam, who let out a small whine at the action, before saying, "That’s enough for now; we still have cookies to make.“
Scott fetched the dough from the fridge and brought it over to the table. Both of them took a chunk of dough and started rolling it out.
"Why does it keep getting stuck? Why is the dough so sticky, Scott?“ Cam suddenly asked as the dough was sticking to his rolling pin or the table.
Scott was currently cutting out a star as he looked over towards Cam and started snickering. “Love, you’re supposed to use the flour to cover the surface of the table and the rolling pin so that the dough doesn’t stick. That’s why I even put it on the table.”
"Of course, of course, I knew that," Cam awfully lied as he went to grab some flour and try again.
Scott peacefully continued making different shapes with the cookie cutters, and right when he started rolling out his dough for the second time, Cam held up the cookie he had just mostly successfully made. He had used the heart-shaped cookie cutter.
"Scott, look, I made you a heart cookie because I love you," Cam declared with a big smile on his face.
"That's so sweet of you." Scott couldn't help but feel fond of Cam, especially when he did something like this. Even if he had made a bit of a mess with the flour, Scott couldn’t really be mad. Instead, he leaned forward a bit and used his hand to remove some flour from Cam’s nose.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once they had finished cutting out the cookies, they had put them in the oven and cleaned away all of the flour that Cam had accidentally distributed all over the kitchen. And once they were done with that, Scott took the biscuits out of the oven and put them to the side to cool off.
"So what do you want to do now?“ Scott asked his boyfriend.
"How about a cup of hot chocolate and some fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies?" Cam proposed; he had been around food for at least an hour now without eating any. How was he supposed to not be hungry?
“If we eat the cookies now, we won’t have any to decorate,” Scott said with a laugh.
"But Scott, I'm hungry!" Cam complained. Scott just rolled his eyes at him and moved to open his cabinets to see what food he still had.
"I've got some bread and jam," Scott offered.
"Can we still do hot chocolate with that?" Cam asked.
"Of course we can,“ Scott agreed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Scott decided that the cookies were cold enough, he started mixing up the icing, with minimal assistance from Cam, who was mostly just talking to him while he did so. Once the icing was done, they both started to decorate the cookies. Each of them decorating at least one cookie for the other in the process.
At the end it was easy to tell which of them made witch cookies, as Cam’s were kind of wonky and Scott’s were very pristine. But they both enjoyed themselves and were sure that they would do this again next year.
