Work Text:

Scott smiled as he set the final painting on the wall. They'd need new ones painted, ones that had all of them in them, though an older one would be just fine for now. It was the start of a brilliant gallery, a start of something wonderful.

He stood in the manor he'd kept clean and tidy and ready for the past several decades waiting for Drift and Shelby to be ready to move into it and smiled as he heard laughter echoing in the halls. The manor was large and would surely fit their coven and any more who wished to join, a wonderful home for them until they found themself wanting a change of scenery.

As he heard a crash from the floor above, laughter following suit he couldn't help but chuckle as he made his way up the stairs, towards where Shelby's laughter sounded from. When he entered the room Owen was on the ground, something in his hand that Shelby was trying to grab at, Tim standing to the side shouting at Owen to toss it to him while Shelby shouted for Drift to come help her.

Owen went to throw whatever it was in the air towards Tim and Scott found himself turning into a bat and snatching it from the air before Tim could catch it. When he landed in his human form he did so to see a small box in his hands.

"Owen. Be kind to your sister. Shelby, get off of your brother. Come and get your box, then join me upstairs, I have something I wish to show you."

Shelby jumped up and ran over, a large smile on her face as she took the box from Scott while Owen grumbled about cheating from where he still lay on the floor.

"Thank you!"

"Of course. Come, follow me. Oh and Drift you as well. Come along girls."

Scott walked away, two sets of footsteps following him up the stairs towards the third floor of the house. There were five rooms on the upper floor along with two bathrooms. All of the bedrooms were on the first two floors, this floor was not for sleeping, no it was for work. He showed the girls towards two rooms, one with a red door, the other a lovely dark oak door with a gold handle.

"Go on. The red one is yours Shelby, the other is yours Drift."

He watched as the girls opened the rooms to be greeted with an office each, carefully created with each of them in mind, two extra comfortable spots to sit in each office for when Avid, Drift and Shelby insist upon being in the same room instead of sat somewhere separate.

The girls beamed and chattered happily as they each explored their new offices before they moved to tour the offices together, thanking Scott again and again and again.

Abolish was only over for dinner at the insistence of Shelby.

He'd only planned to come for dinner since he was in town.

He hadn't expected Shelby to grab his arm and pulled him towards a bedroom on the main floor of the house, a room that was decorated sparsely, one that held a painting of Abolish, Cleo and Pearl, a painting of a photo that had been taken years ago when Shelby had first gotten a handheld camera. A photo where Pearl was holding a wolf pup up to Abolish, Cleo sat nearby laughing. It was a photo he'd cherished when it had been given to him.

"This room is yours."

"Shelby-"

"Nope! No takesies backsies!"

Shelby ran off then at Avid's shout asking her where she'd gone, asking for her help cooking.

He stood in the room, looking around at the room he hadn't expected. It wasn't long before footsteps came behind him.

"Take a key before you leave, Abolish. There's one on the bedside table for you."

"What would you have thought all those years ago, if you heard you'd be inviting me into your manor, Scott?"

"I'd blame Shelby most likely. She always does seem to find strays."

"That she does."

Abolish looked at the room, his eyes going to a painting of himself and Shelby, a painting of a photo that Drift had taken decades ago of the two of them at a shooting range.

"Come, you can explore your room later, it's time for dinner."

Elle sat in her room, staring at everything around her.

How long had it been since she'd had a room of her own?

Had she ever had a bedroom that was truly hers and hers alone?

She sat in her bed in a home that she was told was hers as long as she'd like to stay and even past then, hers and hers alone. A room next to Avid's in a large house with a yard. A house where Avid had the dog she'd always wanted.

She sat in the home of their dreams, her sister a room away.

She sat in this home with a family she'd begun to give up thinking she'd ever find.

This home was hers, this room hers. There was a yard outside where she had been given a garden space once she mentioned wanting to grow her own vegetables, there was a dog for Avid.

She sat here and for once breathed easily.

She was safe.

Her sister was safe.

Maybe now she could figure out more of who she was, of who she wanted to be when not fighting for her survival or searching for Avid.

Scott was watching from the porch one evening as Elle and Avid played in the yard with Leaf, smiling watching the siblings run about when he heard the back door open, heard someone approach him.

He looked over to see Abolish enter the backyard with two puppies in his arms, one a german shepherd while the other seemed to be a black lab. They were young pups, small things.

Scott merely raised an eyebrow at Abolish as he sat down nearby, the two pups on his lap.

"You know, I thought Shelby and Avid were the ones who I needed to worry about when it came to strays."

"They're not strays anymore."

"Avid does not need three dogs."

"They're not for Avid."

"Then who are they for?"

"I was thinking Elle might want a pup of her own."

"And the second one?"

"Mine."

"Of course. Which is yours?"

"The shepherd."

"Hm. Lucky."

"What?"

"You should name it Lucky, much better a name than Leaf."

"Really? That's what you're worried about?"

"Of course. Can't have myself calling for Dirt or Stick should the dog get into something that they shouldn't while you're training them."

Avid ran over before Abolish could say anything to Scott.

"Abolish who are these sweet pups?"

"The shepherd is Lucky. And this one is for you, Elle."

Elle, who had followed after Avid, looked at the small pup in Abolish's arms and gently picked her up, holding her in front of her face before holding her close to her, smiling at Abolish.

"Thank you. I think I'll name her Hope."

Scott smiled at Elle.

"A lovely name for a pup indeed."

Maybe Shelby wasn't the only person in this house with a tendency to pick up strays.
