Chapter 1: The new normal

Summary:

After leaving home the Todoroki siblings Adjust to their new lives away from Endevour

Chapter Text

"In other news, the former pro hero Endevour has been sentenced to 25 years for human trafficking, child endangerment, child neglect, child abuse, and these are only a few of his crimes. His wife and four children, for the most part, have gone into hiding. Most people seem to agree they've probably gone into witness protection."
"Hey, Natsuo, turn it off. Shoto's trying to sleep," Toya said as he walked into their new living room.
"Fine!" Natsuo took the remote and pressed its off button.
"Also, shouldn't you be in bed?" Toya asked, crossing his arms, and Natsuo shrugged.
"It's fine, whatever," He shrugged, but Toya disagreed.
"Cmon, Nat, you're starting school tomorrow. The least you can do is be rested for it." He said, and Natsuo finally turned around, annoyed.
"You're being such a buzz kill. Just last week we were playing video games, and now you're trying to act like my dad?" he asked, crossing his arms.
"I'm sorry, Nat, but please try to get some kind of sleep," Toya asked, and, annoyed, Natsuo got up and stormed off. He slammed the door closed, and Toya just stared at the door. guilt washing over him.
Was that too mean? He thought as the front door creaked open.

"Toya," Fyumi said, sidling in, as she held two grocery bags.
'Yumi,' he said with a light sigh as he came to help her with the bags. She took her shoes off and placed them on the table, and he began going through them and putting things away. Fuyumi sat at their dining room table and watched. Toya then pulled out hair bleach and white dye.
"Are you sure we need to dye his hair? He's so young, why white, anyway? Couldn't we just do red on both sides?" Toya asked
"Toya, if we're really going to make this work, we can't risk anyone finding out about who our dad is. You and Natsuo grew out of your red hair, but Shoto still have it. Trust me, do I feel comfortable bleaching a 7-year-old's hair, no, I don't, but I also don't want people at our doorstep asking for interviews!" She stated, and Toya nodded.
"I know, I know, it's just." he paused looking around the apartment, it was a small two-bedroom with a yellowish hue from the lights coating the apartment.
"This just so much Fuyumi, I need to get a job, I need to now parent a 12 and 7 year old! I'm barely out of high school!" Toya said as tears ran down his face.
"I know, Toya, we're in this together. Besides, I'm getting a part-time job so I can help with bills." She said, and he nodded.
"I know I know it's all gonna work out, but just two weeks ago all I could think about was moving out with my friends and video games, and now here we are." He huffed as he looked at the ceiling and Fuyumi stood up.
"Do you regret it?" She asked, and he quickly shook his head.
"NO, I don't, I'm not letting Shoto or Natsuo go into the system!" He stated, and Fuyumi nodded.
"Good, now I'm going to shower and get some sleep,"

"It stings!" Shoto sobbed as the bleach sat in his hair." He began scratching at his scar, so Toya took his hand.
"Cmon, buddy, stay strong for a few more minutes, ok?" Toya asked, and he nodded.
"Ok, it just hurts my head." He said, and Natso called out from the living room.
"Haha, cry, crybaby!" and blew a raspberry.
"Natsuo!" Fuyumi called out from the dining room table. She and Shoto were sitting down waiting for the bleach to do its magic before dying over the red parts white.
"It's true, though, besides, it can't hurt that badly," he said, turning on the TV.

"My wife chose to marry me; it was arranged, yes, but it wasn't trafficking." The familiar voice that haunted every one of them played from the TV.
"Natuso, turn that off!" Toya demanded, and Natsuo shook his head. before taking the batteries out of the remote and placing them in his pocket.

"My son chose to be trained. by me, and their injuries were consequences of it." The pressure began to build as Toya stood up to Natsuo.
"Put the batteries back in now!" He stated instead he took them out of his pocket and threw them across the room, as they soared through the air, nobody spoke, the only sound came from the TV as they wooshed through ending in a clack as they hit the wall, then the floor.
"NATSUO," Toya said, in coldly flickering blue ember sparked from his fingertips.
"DO IT." To yelled. The second he did that, he regretted it; the look Natsuo gave him, the look Fuyumi and Shoto gave him, it was the look they used when they saw Endevour. Tears rolled down Natsuos face as he quickly grabbed the batteries, placed them back into the remote and and turned the TV off. he then reached for his bag and put his shoes on.
"I'm leaving early," he said, not giving anyone a chance to react. As the door slammed shut, Fuyumi glared at Toya, but before she could speak, the sound of an alarm going off filled the apartment.
"All right then, guess we should take the bleach out of your hair now," Fuyumi said, leading Shoto to the kitchen. Shoto stood up on a stool as she washed the bleach out. She quickly rinsed her own head. Toya left the room and locked himself in the bathroom. He looked at himself despite the white in his hair still spiked like his father's, eyes still that same brilliant blue. Was he turning into his father, where his siblings were just trapped with another abusive man? Were they any better off now than they were before?" He fell to the ground and began to sob.

"Toya." A soft voice from the other side of the door, Fuyumi? Toya asked, wiping away his tears. He opened the door, and she hugged him.
"It's ok. Apologize to both of them when they get back from school," She said. She pulled away, and he noticed the small red tufts in his hair were now white.
"I will, I'm so sorry, I just freaked out, I didn't know what else to do, seeing him it." Toya wasn't sure how to word the feeling rage felt like too much, but fear felt too literal.
"I know it's hard, but I think in a way this is a good thing." She said, and this confused him,
"No, listen, for our whole lives we feared our dad, Natsuo, for the first time can throw tantrums and be an annoying kid without the fear, he feels comfortable now, and we need to work on how that comes out, but I think we're doing something right." She said, and he nodded.
"I guess, but still I don't know what to do," he said, and she patted him on the back.
"I don't know either, but we've got this together." She said, and he managed to get out a soft smile.

Chapter 2: Cracks and Bandages

Summary:

Shoto starts his first day of Elementary school and makes new friends

Chapter Text

"Ok, before you leave, remember your name isn't Shoto Todoroki, it's Shoto Yukishimo," She said, and he nodded.
"It's not too far a walk, we did the walk yesterday, remember? If you need help, ask for it. Remember, ok." She said, and he nodded, holding the straps of his backpack tightly. "Ok by Shoto." She said, waving him off.

Shoto had never walked to school alone before; in fact, he had never been to school at all. He also had never walked anywhere alone. However, now he found himself on the street alone. He knew where to go, but it was so loud, people were talking, cars racing. He wanted to cup his ears and hide.

He wasn't sure what had happened, but he found himself opening his eyes as two other kids sat with him.
"Are you ok?" The one with fluffy green hair asked. The spikey blond just huffed.
"Izuk,u he's not dead, look, he's fine."  Izuku then turned to Shoto.
"My name is Izuku; that's Kachan; he's my best friend.
"My name is Shoto." He said, and Izuku and Kachn stood up, Izuku let out a hand for him to take, and he gladly accepted it.
"Oi Shoto, you're wearing the same uniform as us, do you go to Aldera Elementary?" Kachan asked, and Shoto remembered Fuyumi saying that would be his new school, so he nodded.
"We go there too!" Izuku cheer,d taking Shoto's hand.
"Can we walk together?" He asked.
"Sure." He responded, and with that, Shoto joined them on their walk.
"Oi Shoto, what's your quirk?" Kachan asked before he responded; he remembered what Toya had told him.
"Remember, Shoto, tell people you make ice, and it only comes out of your right side, ok." He was so worried when he said that Shoto thought before responding.
"I make ice; it comes out of my right hand." He explained, allowing for small bits of frost to come out of his hand.
"That's lame," Kachan said as explosions came from both hands.
"You can only use your quirk on half your body, you're pretty weak," he said, and Izuku cut in.
"That means Kachan, I'm sure if he works on it, then he could use it on both sides! Besides, even right now it's pretty cool," he said, but Kachan shrugged.
"You're one to talk, Izuku. Your quirk is the only one I think is worthy of being my sidekick," he said, and Izuku blushed.
"What's your quirk?" Shoto asked, and Izuku's eyes lit up. Suddenly, the water bottle Izuku carried in his bag had begun to float into his hand. Once it landed, he took a sip, he then turned to Shoto with a grin.
"I can like control stuff with my mind! It's really cool, it has so many things I could do to it to make it even stronger! If I train really hard, I'll be a hero like All Might!"
"I wanna be a hero," Shoto said softly, and his words were caught by Kachan and Izuku.
"Tch, if you make like cool ice stuff, then I guess you can be my sidekick as well. Shoto nodded.
"I can make stuff like tall pillars and stuff." Izuku's eyes lit up.
"That's so cool, Shoto!" He said with glee. Before Shoto could respond, however, Kachan then stopped.
"Oi nerds, where here?" he said, dragging the two inside. The kids were filling up inside.
"Oi Shoto, what class are you in?" Kachan asked as they walked, and he remembered when his brother and sister talked to the teacher the other day.

"Alright, Shoto will be placed in class  K4." The lady nice lady who gave him a lollipop while they all talked about stuff.

"Im in class K4," he said and Izuku well if his eyes could be any brighter then he would be a star.
"You're in our class! This is so cool!" Izuku cheered, and Kachan just huffed.
"All right, this is it," Kachan said as the three walked into class.

Shoto wasn't sure what to expect, but all the kids were so loud, some were talking, some were playing, and others were drawing pictures.
"Oh, Shoto, it's nice to see you again. I don't know if you remember, but my name is Sensei Hana. We met yesterday." She said, and he nodded.
"I see you've already made friends with Izuku and Katsuki. Why don't you go sit with them?" She said, pointing him in the direction of a table where they sat. He quietly walked over and sat next to Izuku when the green freckled boy noticed his eyes lit up.
"Shoto." He cheered, hugging him.
"Ugh, you saw him five seconds ago, it's not that big of a deal, Izuku." Kachan huffed.
"Alright, class, before we start, we have a new friend joining us today!" Sensei Hana said,
"Class, meet Shoto Yukishimo. Shoto, could you stand up and say a few words?"
Shoto awkwardly stood up as eyes fell on him.
"Hi, my name is Shoto," he said quietly. He looked back at the two other boys, and Izuku gave him a thumbs-up.
"Um, I recently moved here." He said as people looked at him, their eyes latching onto him as though he was a zoo animal.
"What's your quirk?" kids began to ask, and the pressure built as their questions filled the air.
"I um create ice," he said, and with questions answered, people wanted a show. Hana sensei sighed to herself as she spoke over the class.
"You're not allowed to use your quirks in the classroom, so don't force him to." She said, and the demands settled down as she began to teach the class.

Toya sat in a stuffy office wearing his only dress shirt and a pair of black jeans.
"Todoroki, we both know that your options for employment are limited." The woman who said this was a stone-faced faced with blond hair tied back.
He nodded in response to her matter-of-fact statment.
"I want to offer you a deal. Your quirk is strong despite your limits." She said, pointing to the burn scars lying across his skin.
"Your brother's scar could pass for. a birthmark, yours can't, at the rate you're going, you will melt your skin off your body." Her words sank deep, the image of himself melting into a pile of goo, blood and guts spilling out, sent a shiver down his spine.
"We aim here is to cover up what your father did and keep you and your siblings out of the spotlight, so I want to offer you a deal. We will fund future surgeries to reduce pain and scarring, along with being a part of a gene therapy program aimed to help people like you whose quirks don't fit their bodies." She stated, placing a contract on the table, he looked at her with suspicion in his eyes.
"What's the catch? This offer is too good to be true," he stated, not even giving a glance at the contract.
"You're right, Todoroki, as I said before, your work options are limited; we can guarantee you and your siblings' safety, unlike anyone else. I want you to work for the Commission." She stated as she looked at him. Toya was surprised by all the things to be told; this wasn't one of them.
"Let me get this straight, you're offering me everything I could ever want in exchange for me to work for you?" He asked, and she nodded. He had to admit the commion had already done a lot to help relocate him and his siblings, and this guaranteed him money. However, they had bills to pay, now he couldn't just sit by.
"Right now, we're running on limited funds, we can't access most of my old man's money, and what we do have will run out in a few months. If you can at least cover our living costs until all this shits done and over with, I'll agree," he stated. The Commissioner nodded.
"That's fair, I'll add this into the contract, and you can sign this by the end of today."

"Alright, everyone, single file." Sensei Hana said as the class raced out to the playground. Izuku took Shoto's hand as Kachan led them to the back of the playground.
"Alright, Shoto, time to show us what you can really do!" Kachan stated that the three hid behind a play structure.
"Kacha,n theirs too many people here, we'll get in trouble for sure if we use our quirks here!" Izuku stated, and Kachan smirked.
"I know, so let's leave the playground!" He stated, and both boys shook their heads.
"Um, I'm not sure if that's a good idea," Shoto whispered, and Kachan put his hands on his hips.
"It's a great idea, besides all we have to do is make sure we're back before recess ends, so we'll be fine besides me, and Izuku need to show you our super move." He said as he marched towards the fence.
"Izuku, do what you did last time!" Kachan stated as he looked up to the tall fence,
"Ok fine, but I don't wanna get in trouble, Kachan!" Izuku said as he used his telikenisis on Kachan, he threw the boy over the fence.
"Ow!" Kachan explained as he fell hard on the ground.
"Sorry, Kachan!"
"It doesn't hurt now, send Shoto here!" Kachan cut in, and Izuku looked at Shoto, who looked nervous.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine," Izuku said as Shoto felt his body lift up the ground. It was a strange feeling, like falling up his body rose higher and higher until he reached the peak of the fence he then moved over the grass and quickly felt the reverse, falling normally, he landed on his feet.
"Lucky!" Kachan muttered as Izuku finally jumped the fence.
"I can't wait to show you this place, Kachan found it a few weeks ago," Izuku said as the three began walking.
"It's great, and all hero agencies need a base," he said as they found themselves in a small clearing.

"Alright, Shoto, show us what you got!" Kachan demanded as he abruptly stopped, he turned to Shoto
Alright, the new guy show me what iy got." He said, hands on his hips, with a smirk.
"What do you want me to do exactly?" He asked as nerves shook him.
"You make ice, show me why that's not lame!" he exclaims.
"Kachan, if he doesn't want to, it's ok," Izuku said, but Shoto looks at Izuku and smiles.
"Thanks, but I got it." He said as ice flurried from his right foot, coating the ground in a thick sheet of ice.
"I can also um make towers and stuff," he said quietly, but Kachan nodded with approval. He turned to Izuku.
"He can hang out with us." He relented.
"And before you think you're better than us, it's time to show you why we're the best of the best!" he said, turning to Izuku.
"Alright, do it!" Kachan exclaimed, and Izuku nodded as Kachan floated in the air. Izuku began to spin him fast as explosions began to go off around them.
"Rocket Launcher!" he cheered as Izuku let go, and his explosions propelled Kachan several feet. He landed with a confident grin.
"See where the best of the best!"
"Wow, that was so cool!" Shoto cheered, and Izuku's eyes sparkled."
"I know when my quirk manifested, Kachan insisted we do it, he came up with calling it the rocket launcher!"
"I know I'm great at naming things," he said, pumping his fist to his chest, Anyway, let's head back." Kachan led the group as they walked. Shoto felt his heart soar; he'd never had friends before.

"And that's everything that happened to me today!" Shoto said as he slurped the cup noodles. Toya smiled softly at Shoto.
"I'm glad, I'm so glad that your first day went well." He said Toya then turned to Natsuo.
"What about you? Was school good? He just shrugged.
"Fine." That was all he responded with. Before slurping up the last of his noodles, before got up and went to his room. Toya turned to Shoto, Do you want to watch TV with the rest of dinner?" He asked, and Shoto nodded.
"Sure!" He exclaimed, Shoto turned the TV onto a kids' channel before turning and entering the bedroom. Like Shoto's hair, the room was divided down the middle. Natsuo's side had bright blue sheets, a desk, some school supplies, and such, mostly empty; it matched Shoto's almost empty side, although his had some toys scattered along the floor, and his sheets were grey.
"I'm sorry about this morning. I shouldn't have snapped." He said, and Natsuo turned to face his brother.
"I know, I was being an asshole." He said and laying down on his bed and rolled to face away from Toya.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, and Natsuo turned to face Toya.
"Just leave me alone, Toya!" He snapped.
"Natsuo, what's going on?" He asked, but Natsuo stood up.
"Shut up! Just. Leave me alone," he snarled. Toya wasn't sure what to do, so he listened, closing the door. He then turned to Shoto; he wasn't watching the TV; he sat on the couch watching the fight.
"Toya, is Natsuo mad at me?" The question confused Toya, and he shook his head.
"Why would you think that?" He asked, and Shoto looked away.
"It's my fault." He whispered under his breath. Toya took in a breath. He came and sat down next to his brother.
"What do you mean, buddy?"
"Mommy's sick because of me, and because of that, people are mad at Daddy. If I weren't their mommy wouldn't have." Shoto started crying as he scratched at the scar on his face.
"I'm sorry, Toya." Shoto sobbed. He repeated it over and over again, and Toya held his brother tight.
"It's not your fault, Shoto. Please, it's not your fault, mommy's been sick for a while, it's just." Toya wasn't sure how to frame it for Shoto.
"It's not fair what happened to us, but especially you, Shoto. Dad did bad things to all of us, and Mommy got sick because of it." He spoke softly. Shoto wasn't crying anymore, but he was still upset.
"Daddy was always mean, but mommy was so safe," Shoto whispered.
"I know she was sick, but why, why did she do it?" He asked, and Toya couldn't answer.
"Sometimes adults do things, it's their own fault, but we kids have to deal with the consequences." He said, and Shoto nodded. Toya ruffled Shoto's now fully white hair. Shoto was a smart kid, he wanted Shoto to have the childhood he couldn't have.

Chapter Text

Alright, everyone, remember to finish your homework." Sensei Hana said as kids quickly grabbed their bags and raced out. It's been a week since Shoto started at Aldera, and he's started walking to and from school with Izuku and Kachan. He had eventually come to figure out Kachan's real name was Katsuki, but Izuku called him Kachan, and he guessed he did too

"Oi, Izuku, Shoto, my mom said that you're all invited to come over on Saturday, also, Shoto here." Kachan handed Shoto a piece of paper; he opened it, and it had an address and a phone number

"She wants to meet your mom," he stated, and Shoto put the paper in his pocket

"Ok, Kachan," he said, and Izuku then spoke up

"Kachan's home is really big! he has so many cool toys and All Might stuff!" He exclaimed. Shoto nodded starry-eyed, the memory of watching All Might save people with his mom was so fresh yet felt so far. A few minutes later, they arrived at Shoto's apartment building

"Ok, by by see you guys," he said, and Izuku waved back

"By Shoto." He exclaimed as the boy walked inside. Natsuo was on the couch watching TV. Fuyumi and Toya didn't come back until later, so he went to his room and began doing his homework.

Fuyumi came in tired, she just wanted to sleep for the next few hours, school when her mind was elsewhere worrying

"Natsuo, have you done your homework yet?" She asked, and he shrugged

"Come on, Natsuo, can you try and do your homework?" She asked, and he sharply turned to her

"Screw off, Fuyumi!" He snarled, storming to his room and slamming the door. Shoto had almost finished his schoolwork when Natsuo barged in. He slammed the door hard, and he slumped on his bed.  Shoto wasn't sure what to do. He hadn't been around other people crying

"Are you ok?" He asked, but Natsuo just glared

"Stay out of this," He snapped, and Shoto quietly creaked the door open and slipped out. Fuyumi sat on the couch, lost in thought. He then reached into his pocket and remembered what Kachan had mentioned to him

"Fuyumi?" He asked, and she looked back at him

"What's up, Shoto?" She seemed stressed to him, but he didn't mention it

"My friend, Kachan he invited me to his house on Saturday, he also said his mom wants to meet mom, but mom's still sick." He said, and she nodded

"Don't worry about it, I'll call his mom." She said, taking the note. She took out her phone and dialled the number, but before she hit the call button, she turned ot Shoto

"Shoto, if your friends or their parents ask, say your mother called, ok?" She asked, and he nodded. She pressed the call button, and the phone rang

"Hello?" a female voice said

"Hi, is this Katsuki's mom?"

"Yup, that's my brat all right. I'm assuming this is Shoto's mom?" Fuyumi took a deep breath

"Yes, I'm Shoto's mother," She said nervously as she spoke, and she hoped it wasn't noticeable

"That's great that note has my address, but since it seems Shoto's gonna be sicking around, I'd love to get to know you! Izuku and's mom go for coffee, you're welcome to join us. Fuyumi panicked. She wanted to come clean, but she also didn't want to embarrass Shoto and potentially ruin his first friendships

"I'd love to." She said, squeaking out

"Great! So you guys can come over around noon on Saturday." She said

"Ok! See you then." She said, hanging up the phone.

She turned to face him, and he had his tilted in confusion

"They're going to know you're my sister when they see you," he said, and she nodded

"Just say the truth! ya know that mom's sick, that's it." She said, and he nodded.

"Why do we have to lie?" Shoto asked, and Fuyumi sighed, ruffling his hair

"So we can have a peaceful life, I know it might not make sense to you, but you know daddy wasn't a good man, he hurt all of us," She started, and memories flashed into Shoto's mind, him on the floor vomiting, and his father berating him for being weak

"Shoto, the life where building now, the new friends you've made, it's only happening because we lied, and I'm not saying you should always lie because lies can hurt people as well, ok." She said, and he nodded

"Ok." He cheered as he skipped back to his room. As the door to his room closed, the front door opened, and Toya came in. He staggered onto the couch, laying his head back and sighed

"Toya, are you ok? You look terrible!" She exclaimed, she quickly got him a glass of water and brought it to him, but he refused

"No, sis, I'm fine, this gene therapy stuff is a lot, it's like my body is on fire," He said, and she huffed

"I still don't like this Toya. I can help with bills; you don't have to do this." She said, but he turned to her

"I don't want to have this conversation, I'm in a lot of pain, but I'm your big brother, I'm not going to make you work, ok, it's my job." She wanted to argue but the way he grunted with each word as though gravel was pouring into his mouth, she relented

"Natuso and Shoto are in their room. I'll be in mine if you need anything, ok?" He nodded in response to the offer, and she shut her door.

Shoto stood outside the Bakugo house. It was a nice home, but much smaller than this old home. He began walking up the steps to the door when it swung open

"Shoto!" Kachan cheered as he took the boy's arm and pulled him inside. The inside was comfortable, with pictures of the family on the wall. sitting on the couch, where a spiky blond-haired woman with red eyes and a brown haired man with glasses and brown eyes, he had a bulky build but kind eyes

"Hey, nice to meet you, Shoto!" Mitsuki said as she got up and smiled

"Hi." He said softly.

"Katsuki's talked a lot about you; he doesn't get impressed often, so you must be a  pretty cool kid." She cooed

"Oi old hag, when's Izuku getting here?" Kachan asked as the door swung open

"Kachan, Shoto!" Izuku cheered as he leapt onto them in a hug. Kachan looked like he wanted to throw Izuku off, but let him lie there for a moment before pulling off

"I wanna show Shoto the basement," Kachan said, leading the way to a set of stairs. Mitsuki nodded, and the three climbed downstairs.

The downstairs area was the epitome of a child's dream, the playroom to define all playrooms. Large play sets with hundreds of action figures. Shoto was jealous of all the toys scattered around

"Wow." Shoto gasps as his eyes wander around the treasure trove that is his friend's basement.

I know, right? Kachan has the coolest stuff!" Izuku exclaimed as he raced to grab an All-Mighty action figure

"I wanna be All Might!" Kachan grabbed a different All Might figure, Shoto, then noticed another one and took it

"Um, could I be All Might?" Neither child backed down. Rather than fight over it, Izuku suggested they all be All Might and form Team All Might.

"Fine, but I get the lead Team All Might, I'm the All Mightyst All Might there is," Kachan said as he sat down and got the scene with other figures posing as the bad guys

"I am here!" Izuku cheered, and Kachan did the classic All Might laugh

"I am here to kick your butt!"

"Smash!" Shoto Cheered.

Natsuo stared at the bank wall. It was the kind of day he couldn't pull himself out of his bed again

"Natsuo?" Fuyumi called out, she sounded sat to Natsuo, then he heard Toya speak

"Natsuo, can you please tell us what's wrong? where both are getting worried." He said, Toya put a hand on the knob, but Fuyumi stopped him from opening the door. She shook her head and began to speak

"I know things are different now, and it's been hard on all of us, but Natsuo, I want to understand what you're feeling." She said as tears began to run down her face

"Natsuo, where are all we got in this world, ya know I hate seeing you so angry all the time and not understanding why, please. We both want to help." He said, and both were surprised when the door opened. Natsuo's eyes were puffy and red.

Fine." He said. The three sat on the couch as Fuyumi began to speak

"You understand Dad's a bad man, right?" She asked, and Natsuo rolled his eyes

"Duh, Fuyumi, I know that!" He snarked, and she sighed

"I know I just don't understand." She said, and he crossed his arms

"I said I would tell you, right?" he reminded her in a certain tone in his voice. Toya didn't like but also didn't say anything about it since he was finally talking

"When everything happened you guys did all the protecting I just got dragged around, I was useless, I couldn't defend Shoto, and I couldn't help mom, and I hate how things have changed, when we where kids it was us agents the world, dad ignored us rejects and in. a way I look back fondly at the days we snuck out of the house for ice-cream and played card games in our room, I miss feeling like siblings, it feels like since we moved you guys are trying to be my parents, I want to do dumb stuff together again," He said and both Toya and Fuyumi where surprised neither where expecting this answer

"I'm sorry, so much has changed. I think we all like to look back at those times," He said, his own mind remembering the nights they stayed up whispering to each other as they cowered in when footsteps could be heard on the other side of the door

"I also want to see Mom, it's been a month since we saw her, why?" Natsuo left no room for an excuse in his question

"Natsuo, it's well complicated." Fuyumi stammered, but he wasn't having it

"No, tell me! Why haven't we gone to see Mom? Dad's in jail now and isn't coming back, why!" his voice grew louder, and Fuyumi tried to descale

"ENOUGH!" Toya yelled, causing both to freeze

"Fuyumi, we have to tell him." He said, and she shook her head

"No! We can't, she stammered, but he shook his head

"Because that's clearly working." He said, waving his arms around to make his point clear

"He isn't 7 Fuyumi, he should know why," Toya said, and Fuyumi sighed

"Fine." She then turned to Natsuo

"You can't tell Shoto until we agree he's old enough to understand." She said, and he nodded

"The name change documents will be processed in a week. Once that's done, you won't be Todoroki anymore; you and your brothers will be Yukishimo." Their case worker said the two siblings nodded. This was good news; with a new name, it would be harder for Endevour to find them. The two were about to get up and leave since he had nothing else to say, but as they were about to stand, their case worker stopped them

"One more thing, we only recently discovered this." He started, then paused and looked at the two with pity in his eyes

"Spill it!" Toya demanded

"Your father," The case worker started, but he seemed choked up about whatever the hell was going on

"Please, sir, what's going on?" Fuyumi asked, and he took a breath and looked them both in the eyes

"When your father signed the forms to involuntarily commit your mother he filled out the guest paperwork. We recently went through it and have come to some conclusions." Fuyumi and Toya didn't need to speak; they could sense the others' dread, sweating all over

"He made it clear that the only visitors and anyone who contacts are members of the Todoroki family, not even her parents and siblings can see her since they have the name Himura." He paused again, looking at them to put the pieces together.

"What does that mean?" Toya asked, he turned ot his sister, her hands over her mouth as a look of horror filled her face

"You're saying that when our name change goes through, we won't be able to visit our mom?" she asked, her voice shook with every hitch, and Toya snapped his head towards their case worker, who solemnly nodded

"There has to be some kind of loophole, isn't that your freaking job?!" Toya wanted to attack him so badly, but he restrained himself

"I'm sorry the paperwork is iron-clad. Once your Yukishimo, you won't be able to see her until she gets out," he spoke with so much sympathy for the two as Toya clung onto his little sister and sobbed.

The two walked up to the front desk and introduced themselves

"I'm Toya Todoroki."

"I'm Fuyumi Todoroki, and where here to see our mother, Rei Todoroki," Fuyumi explained. The receptionist went through the paper, and when she got to that name, she had a grim expression on her face

"Mr. Todoroki, I deeply apologize, but after evaluating your mother, we've deemed you and your brothers triggering when your names are brought up, she panics. We have to put the patient first." She said Toya looked like he was about to cry, but he looked at his sister and nodded

"Go see her, ok." He said, and she nodded. A nurse soon came and led her to their mother.

She's in this room," the nurse said as she opened the door. The nurse stood by, not leaving the two of them alone. As Fuyumi saw her mom, so many emotions filled her; she seemed calmer than the last time they saw each other. Her white hair was in its normal style, although she now wore a hospital gown

"Mom?" Her words came out as more of a question as and Rei turned to her and smiled

"Hi, Fuyumi." She said, and she sat down on the desk chair

"How is everything?" Rei asked, and Fuyumi smiled

"Things are going ok, right now we're staying at a hotel, but once everything is finalized, we're going to be moving into an apartment." She said, and Rei seemed happy to hear the news

"That's so great. How are the boys doing?" Rei asked. Rei had never referred to her brothers as the boys. Fuyumi noticed it but didn't comment

"They're doing all they can do as well as they can be right now." She admitted, and Rei nodded and then spoke

"I'm sorry for causing all of this." Fuyumi shook her head

"Mom, Dad hurt you, he did this to you, none of us blame you, we all want you to get better," Fuyumi said, and Rei nodded

"The journey won't be easy, but I know with your support we can be a family again, just the five of us," She said, and Fuyumi's smile broke as the words of the case worker

"What's wrong?" Rei asked, and Fuyumi took a breath; her mother had to know before she left

"Where are all changing our names, so dad or anyone who knew him can't find us, but when that happens, we won't be able to see you until you get out because of some stuff dad did with the paperwork," she spoke quickly, she spat the words out as fast as possible to get it over with.

"The doctors don't know how long I'll be here, anywhere from three years to a decade." She paused, looking at her daughter, a sad smile rose on her lips

" If it's over a decade, she paused, taking a breath to keep herself sain

"Shoto and Natsuo will have grown up when I see them, theirs going to be young men, they won't be my little boys, you and Toya will be set into your careers, you could be married and I won't even know." Her words shook, but she forced herself to stay calm

"Do you know when the last day you can visit is?" Rei asked

"About a week, where just waiting on paperwork. I didn't know until today, I had to tell you, I'm sorry." Fuyumi sobbed, and Rei embraced her

"I know, I know, it's ok."  As Fuyumi sobbed, she felt her mother's grip grow tighter. Her mother's short nails pressed against her skin

"Mom?" Rei's voice shook. She looked at her eyes, that look, it was rage and fear all mixed into deep trauma

"You like just like him!" She yelled as Fuyumi felt her sharp, painful scratches down her back

"Mom! Stop having an episode! Please!" Fuyumi begged as the nurse came and quickly pulled Rei off Fuyumi. Once off her daughter, Rei seemed to realize what she did

"I'm so sorry, Fuyumi." She begged, but she got up and stumbled; fear was in her eyes as she walked away

"Wait, I'm sorry." She begged, but Fuyumi was shaking.

When Toya saw her, he didn't ask what happened; instead, he picked her up and carried her out

"What happened?' He asked her softly, he found a bench outside and placed her down, tears stained her glasses, and snot ran down her face

"Toya, Mom attacked me." She turned around, and he froze on her back was a large scratch from under the back of her neck between her shoulder blades, the mark that was leaking blood. He looked at his hand, bloody

"Shit, let's go back and get you some sort of bandage for that," He said, rushing inside. He came out with a large bandage and tape and quickly covered it

"I can clean it when we get home." Despite the offer, they sat there in silence, processing what had happened.

After that, they said I shouldn't visit for a while, and well, the name change happened, and we can't visit anymore." Fuyumi wasn't crying, but Natsuo and Toya could see how tired and sad she was

"I understand, that sounds awful." He said, and Fuyumi hugged him. Toya joined the hug, and the three stayed like that, holding each other tight.

Chapter 4: The party of Flame

Summary:

Izuku's birthday has arrived! Fuyumi opens up to Inko about the past

Chapter Text

He clung to the straps of his backpack, a bright smile on his face

"I'm gonna be 8 in just a few weeks!" He cheered, then he had a look of realization

"My mom told me to give you these." He said as two envelopes sprang from his bag, it had a faint greenish glow to it, Shoto noticed right as it popped into his hand. Instead of a stamp, there was an All Might sticker

"Shoto nodded as Izuku began to talk about the streamers and balloons. He remembered watching a show once with his sister, he couldn't recall, but the episode revolved around a birthday party, so bright and colourful, he hadn't had a birthday party before

"Oi Shoto!" Kachan called out, flicking his cheek."

"I'm gonna get Izuku the best gift ever!" He said as they crossed the road. Shoto nodded,

"I'll try my best, Izuku!" He said a newfound confidence to make his friend happy.

Can I go?" When Shoto came home from school, Fuyumi was working on homework, Toya and Natsuo were watching TV, Toya signalled for Shoto to come over and he did. Together, they opened the letter and took out an All Might-themed card

Come To My 8th birthday!" It read in messy crayon. Toya turned the card around, and in much neater handwriting were more details. A party at the Midoryia residence, the address and contact information are below.

"Shoot, we need to get the kid a gift, right?" Toya asked himself as he then turned ot Fuyumi.

"I'll take Shoto after I finish my homework," Fuyumi said, and Shoto smiled. He wanted ot get Izuku something special.

We need to get him something All Might themed," Shoto explained as they stood in the kids' section of a Toya store. Shoto was distracted picking between different sets and action figures, her eyes, however, lingered on the clearance bin, bright orange flames and blue eyes that matched her brother's. Flames that burned, flames that hurt. She shivered at those thoughts as flashes hit her

Fuyumi?" Shoto tugged at her hand, and she quickly turned to him

"What is it, Shoto?" She asked, and he showed her a box, All Might. She nodded and began to walk towards the register

"I hope Izuku likes it, I wanna make him happy!" Shoto cheered, and FUyumi had a soft smile on her face as she turned to face Shoto

"You like your new friends, don't you?" She asked with a knowing look on her face

"They're both so cool!" He said as they reached the register. Fuyumi took out the crumpled notes and handed them to the cashier. They began to make their way to the grocery store to pick up some things for dinner

Shoto!" A spikey blond called out, waving his hand. Shoto waved back

"Kachan!" Shoto exclaimed, racing over to the boy. The two began to talk at speeds only kids could understand, leaving Fuyumi and Mitsuki

"Are you his mom?" She asked, and Fuyumi quickly shook her head

"No no no!" I'm Shoto's older sister." She quickly explained she was flustered at the question and the boldness of it

"Oh," Mitsuki said, surprised

"We were just picking up Izuku's gift, she said, showing the back form the toy store

"Oh, where going to get Katsuki's gift for Izuku tomorrow? theirs just so much to do today." She chuckled, and Fuyumi nodded. She readjusted her glasses. She was about to speak when she felt her phone vibrate

"Hold on, I need to take this." She said, raising the phone to her ear. Natsuo spoke.

"Fuyumi, can you come home, um, Toya, well?" Natsuo began, but the phone was grabbed from his hand

"It's not as bad as you think, Fuyumi, I swear it's not that bad!" He exclaimed, and the annoyance was getting to her

"Will one of you just tell me what happened?" She demanded, and despite having an ice quirk, a fire raged from within her both boys could feel it through the phone. Toya dramatically sighed and began to explain

As the door slammed shut, the two brothers looked at each other. A miracle of a moment had fallen upon them. Toya made his way to the kitchen and took out a kettle. It wasn't fancy, but it did the job right

"Fuyumi said I can't cook, well, what is she gonna say when I make the best cup noodles of all time, you're recording this, right Natsuo?" Toya asked, and the 12-year-old nodded, showing the phone in his hand, recording

"All right." He said, filling up the pot, he closed the lid on the copper kettle, and his hand began to glow a bright blue.

"See, Fuyumi, I can cook like a master!" He said, pointing his other hand to the kettle in the other a wide smirk on his face. He looked to see Natsuos' face, one he expected to have the same joy as him, but he looked terrified

"What's wrong?" He asked, tilting his head

"Toya, the kettle!" He exclaimed, and Toya turned, and the kettle had somehow melted. In its place was melted copper on the ground spreading, the molten copper on his hand surprisingly didn't bother him, he guessed the gene therapy was working then. He then had the realization. I just melted a kettle, and it's on the ground. As if things couldn't get worse, the smoke alarms began to go off, the smell of burning copper wafted to his nose, and it wasn't a pleasant aroma.

"Shit!" he exclaimed, attempting to clean the mess

As this story was recounted to Fuyumi, the urge to bash her brothers into a wall became ever-present in her body. She sighed aloud

"Don't do anything until I get home." She sighed

"I'm so sorry, but we need to go; it's a bit of an emergency. My brothers almost just burned our kitchen." She explained as she took Shoto's hand and raced home

As she slammed the door open, the desire to throw something at the two morons she was related to was strong. Toya's flames were out as he tried to melt the burned metal from the ground

"You two." She muttered as she quickly took her shoes off and hovered over the boys

"Natsuo. Toya," she stated as they turned their heads to face her wrath. They both gulped as she raged

"You idiots," She huffed, pointing to the mess

"Just try to get this off, ok!" She huffed, moving to the couch

"Also, it's take-out tonight." She said, turning to Toy, and he nodded. Natsuo just patted him on the back

Fuyumi sat in her room, which was more of a hole in the closet with a bed and desk, but she wasn't going to complain. She felt her phone buzzing in her pocket and picked it up, while she didn't recognize the number, she did recognize the area code, so she picked up

"Hello?" she answered, caution in her voice

"Hey, is this Shoto's.... sister?" The voice asked, as though remembering their relation

"Yeah, I'm his sister?" She responded, although confused as to who this was

"Ok, good, I'm Inko Midoryia, Izuku's mother. I just wanted to make sure everything is ok, and Shoto's still coming."

She said she spoke with a maternal warmth that Fuyumi missed from her own mother.

"Yeah, he's still coming," Fuyumi said

"Great, I can't wait to see you both then." She said before hanging up. Fuyumi wanted to say she wasn't the one exactly coming, but the phone hung up before she could say anything else

Shoto!" Izuku squealed as Shoto walked through the door of the apartment. He then dragged the boy into his room to play

"It's nice to meet you," Inko said, leading Fuyumi to the dining room table, and the area surrounding it was decorated in All Might and yellow. Fuyumi sat across from Inko, a nervous expression on her face

"Please understand I'm not trying to pry, I just, well." Inko paused, not quite sure how to phrase her words

"Are you actually his sister?" She managed to get out. The women seemed very embarrassed at her own question, and Fuyumi tilted her head in confusion

"Um, yeah?" She questioned, genuinely confused

"I'm really sorry, its just that I got a call from Mitsuki the other day and she said she ran into you, since you two look so simaler and also when she talked to you on the phone you introduced yourself as his mom so she kinda came out of that thinking your his mom and your hiding it by pretending to be his older sister" She began to ramble as she spoke and Fuyumi was in shock. She wasn't even sure how to respond, she stared at Inko until she could finally get words out

"Ma'am, if that was the case, I would have been ten when he was born." Inko had a look of horror on her face as she did the math in her own head

"I'm so sorry." She stood up and bowed

"I shouldn't have asked." She said, and Fuyumi flung her arms out

"N,o no no it's fine. Honestly." She said, and Inko sat herself back down

Although about the phone thing," She paused, remembering that call, she had been so nervous

"Yeah, it was me, our mom is sick." She said, and Inko nodded

"Are you responsible for Shoto and your other siblings?" She asked, and Fuyumi paused. She hadn't actually thought about how to answer a straight-up question. However, his lack of an answer seemed to be more than enough to answer Inko

"Well, um, I'm not alone in this, my brother, Toya, where doing the best we can for Shoto and Natsuo. It's not easy, but we're figuring it out." She explained, and Inko had a soft expression on her face

"I know it's not the same thing, but I sort of understand what suddenly having to take care of kids is like." She paused, turning to a framed photo of herself and Izuku

"When Izuku was two years old, his home was attacked by a villain. My sister, my parents, my other niece and nephew all died it was a miracle he survived. I was the only one who could take him. I was a bit of a wreck back then. I partied and was always on something, but when I saw him and realized it was up to me to give him the best life I could, I did everything to get custody." Inko finished, and Fuyumi wasn't sure what to say. In a sense, she felt a certain level of kinship

"Wait, does Izuku remember anything? Does he know?" The question had popped into her mind and sprang out with little thought. Inko shook her head

"No, the doctors said he might remember it when he's older, or if the right trigger happens, he might remember. The police tried to, but he was too young and so traumatized. Whatever happened that day, I'm glad he doesn't remember." Fuyumi nodded, and Inko took her hand

It's not a nice story, you know?" and Inko nodded. With a sigh, Fuyumi began to speak

Shoto lay in his bedroom, the emptiness of his thrown-up lunch still present in his mind and mouth. The floor wasn't comfortable, but he didn't have the energy to reach his bed. Through the door, he could hear the faintest shuffling, then a soft creak. The door was quickly shut, and he felt himself being lifted into the air. He was placed into his own bed,

"Toya," he muttered as his older brother's face looked down at him, soft blue eyes filled with concern. He felt sleep pull him down as his eyes shut.

Toya got up and quietly left the room. He silently made his way back to his own room, taking the long way to avoid his father's room and even the chance he was in the house. He then passed Fuyumi's room and softly knocked

"Come in." She said, and he entered

"Is everything going ok?" He asked, and she nodded

"Yup, schoolwork’s pretty much done, so I'm about to head to bed." She said, wiping her glasses. Toya nodded and ruffled her fluffy hair

"Toya." She sighed, and he softly smiled at him

"You're annoying," she said, punching his arm

"Nah, I'd say I'm pretty cool," he said, messing her hair up even more

"Well, I'm heading to bed. Isn't it Natsuo's turn to be bothered?" She teased, and he laughed

"Of course," He said, waving goodbye and closing the door

Natsuo was playing video games and had a pile of snacks next to him

"You need to get some kind of sleep, Natsuo," he said, and Natsuo shrugged

"Meh, I wanna finish this level."

"Is this two-player?" He asked, and Natsuo nodded. Toya then sat next to his brother and signalled for a controller

"Alright then, give me a controller, this way you finish faster."

Shoto's eyes opened. He was in bed, and the room was dark. He felt thirsty, decided to get a glass of water, he began to walk to the kitchen. He stepped quietly through the house, not wanting to wake anyone

I can't do this anymore, I can't, I can't, every day they all look more like him, I feel like I can't, I just." Rei reapted. She clutched the phone in her hand as she spoke,

"Some days I don't see my children, I see him," Her voice shook as she continued

"Yesterday I snapped at Natsuo for leaving his chopsticks on the table, I was so mean, but in the moment he was him, I'm gonna break, I'm gonna do something I I." She hung up the phone and stared at the kettle as it boiled

"Mom?"

Toya shot out of his bed when he heard it. He had heard crying, but not this this was the sound of someone truly being tortured. He raced out of his bed, Fuyumi and Natsuo were out of their rooms as well, neither sure what to do

"You two! Stay in your rooms, I'll go deal with this." He said, racing ahead

"But what if dad's home?" Natsuo asked, and Toya shrugged

"I don't care what dad's doing, but I'll beat the living shit out of him if he lays a hand on anyone." He said, racing down the stairs. As he focused more, he could make out who was crying. It was Shoto, he could also hear his mother's apology. He pushed open the door and froze. Shoto's face, the right side of his face, was red and bubbling. There was a kettle on the ground, and water covered the floor

"Mom... what did you do?" Toya was a brave young man he would stand up to the number two hero for his siblings any day, but in this moment, he was petrified of his mother. He quickly put himself between his mother and brother as she apologized,

"I, I thought it was him. I never would have if I did. I'm so sorry," she sobbed. He had to ignore her for now. Shoto needed medical attention, but where could they go? Any hospital would know who they were, ask questions they couldn't risk. Toya picked Shoto up, Rei tried to reach for him, but he had to stop her

"Wait, please, I'm sorry." She sobbed, falling to the floor. He held Shoto tight, scared to let go. he then knocked on Fuyumi's door. Natsuo opened it quickly. He couldn't help but stare. Shoto wasn't screaming anymore, but his hand was covering his scrunching face in pain. Despite that, he could see it

"Where's Fuyumi?" He asked

"She went to get a first aid kit." He said, Toya laid Shoto on Fuyumi's bed

"Shoto, I know it hurts, but I need you not to scratch your face for me, ok?" he asked. He tried to keep his voice calm, but he knew his panic was visible. Fuyumi then came in with a first aid kit

"Fuyumi, I need you to disinfect the wound. I'm going to get a cold compress, ok?" he said, getting up. Fuyumi then came closer, seeing the wound, she froze, unsure what to do, but she took a breath and reached for the saline. She took a cotton pad and soaked it in saline solution.

"Shoto, this is going to hurt. I know it's painful, but I need you to be brave, ok?" She asked

"Ok." With the ok, she placed the pad on his face. She could see the pain in his eye, but she held firm. Natsuo then took Shoto's hand and gave it a squeeze

She continued to apply saline around the wound until the door swung open. Toya held a bucket of water and a towel. Fuyumi moved aside as he placed the bucket and began to soak the towl. He placed it over Shoto's eye

Rei lay in a cradle position on the floor, whispers of apologies leaving her mouth. Toya came in, he helped her up and to bed

"Toya, am I a monster?" She whispered as they approached her room.

"No." He said before helping her into bed. He left her there and went back to Fuyumi's room.

Shoto was asleep and had gauze covering the burn. Fuyumi and Natsuo sat in silence

"Natsuo, can you go to your room?" Toya asked, and Natsuo shook his head

"I'm not leaving Shoto alone." He said, but Fuyumi turned to him

"You're not leaving him, but I think we need to figure out what we need to do. ok." She said, and he huffed, got up and left the room

What happened?" She asked as she held Shoto's hand tight

"Mom, I think she through boiling water at Shoto," he said, and Fuyumi's grip tightened

"Toya, what do we do? Shoto needs real medical attention." She said, and he agreed

"Dad's unreachable right now, but if we go to a hospital, it could get media attention, and shit could hit the fan fast, but if we stay here and keep doing what we're doing, we could risk getting infected! Shoto needs a doctor!" she tears up, looking at her younger brother

"I know, but what happens if you all go into the system? I can't lose you guys. If we're careful, we can manage this by ourselves, we can get burn cream and whatever else we need, ok." He said, and she reluctantly nodded

"What do we do when dad finds out?" Fuyumi and Toya looked away

"I don't know." He said and looked him in the eyes

"Toya, we need a plan if dad finds out about this, he might actually kill mom, you know it! He has his tool to beat All Might! He doesn't care about Mom! He might just kill her and get away with it!" She sobbed, and Toya held her

"I know

Through the door, Rei stood listening. She wanted to hold her children and cry, but a part of her knew she couldn't what if she hurt them again? All she did was hurt them

"You did WHAT to my MASTERPIECE!" Endevours' yelling travelled through the house, and all four siblings hid in Fuyumi's room, holding each other

"Enji, I'm so sorry. It was an accident, I swear." She sobbed, but he slapped her to the ground

"Shut it, I need to see my masterpiece," he stormed through the house, opening rooms with each scream of frustration. He grew closer. BAM. The door to Fuyumi's room swung open, and Toya felt and Shoto's arms as grabbed and dragged away

"Stay away from these failoers, Shoto, they're making you weaker by the minute," he said, slamming the door behind them. They all sat in silence, unsure of what to do next

Where getting out of here?" Toya said under his breath, he, Natsuo and Fuyumi were eating dinner together as he said this

"Ok, but how? We don't have money, and last time I checked were a part of one of the most well-known families." Natsuo pointed and but Fuyumi shook her head

"There’s actually not a lot about us online. Dad doesn't care enough to talk about his personal life," Fuyumi said with a sigh. But Toya shot up

"That makes starting over easier for us

"We should talk to Mom about this. Could her family help us?' Natsuo asked, but the older two shook their heads

"I don't think we can rely on them," Fuyumi said, and Toya nodded

"I'm going to talk to mom, see what she thinks about this." He said, getting up. He went to her bedroom, but it was empty. He wandered through the house and found nothing. He decides to check on Shoto before heading back to eat

Shoto was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling

"You doing ok? he asked, and Shoto shook his head

"Mom's gone because of me." He said, and this confused Toya

"What do you mean?" he asked, and SHoto sat up

"This morning, Dad said he sent Mom away for hurting me, but.... I know it's his fault his his fault she hurt me." He as begun to cry. Toya took Shoto's hand

"It's not your fault, ok," He said, and Shoto nodded

"Shoto, did Dad mention where Mom is?" He asked, and he shook his head

"I'm sorry, I don't know." He said, and Toya nodded

"Can you keep resting for me? I'll be back soon, ok?" He said, and Shoto nodded, lying back down, quickly falling asleep

So we have no idea where she is?" Fuyumi asked, and Toya nodded

"Honestly, I say once Shoto's burn heals, the four of us make a run for it, we can start stealing money and stuff, so we don't have to worry about that for a while. He said

"Ok, but what about our names, our faces, there's a lot that goes into this." She said

"We'll figure it out as it happens," Toya said, getting up to leave.

Shoto's burns were far from healed. Three weeks into his recovery, Endeavour decided to start Shoto's training up again.

"You can't be serious!" Toya screamed, but Endeavour pushed him aside.

"Shoto will get injured it's good for him to learn now how to fight through the pain." He said, but Toya got back in his way.

"That's bullshit! I almost want to think you enjoy torturing him." Toya yelled as flames began to come from his fingers, hot orange flames.

"Get out of here, Toya, I don't need you. Shoto will surpass everyone, All Might, myself and he's already far surpassed you." He said, but Toya slapped him.

"Shoto's not some pet, he's not a dog to train, he's a kid, a kid who can be whatever the hell he wants to be and not because you told him to!" Toya screamed, and Endeavour set his hands aflame

"Get out, or I'll make you leave." He said, but Toya smirked and took the challenge.

"I won't let you hurt him anymore!" he exclaimed as he lunged for Endeavour. He hit him hard with a burning fist, but the bigger man pulled him off and threw him at the wall using fire increasing the damage. Toya grew frustrated all he could think of was one word.

“Hotter.”

He needed his flames to be hotter. He shot blazing heat to the man who took the hit in stride, despite the clear injury the man smirked.

"That did nothing! You're weak," he cackled, but Toya wasn't done.

"Hotter hotter," he mumbled, putting more force into his flames. He reached it. The colour of his flames no longer shone a bright orange but a powerful, shimmering blue. Shoto could feel the heat from across the room.

Toya could feel the pain he'd never gone this far. His body wasn't built for this, but he had to protect his brother. Both men are shooting fire at each other. Fire began to spread around the room, neither seemed ot notice and focused more on beating the other. Shoto raced out of the room, screaming.

"Fire Fire!" he cried, and Fuyumi and Natsuo could smell the smoke. The three raced outside, Fuyumi dialling for the police

You bastard! You won't lay a finger on Shoto ever again!" Toya declared as he lit his whole body on fire, it felt like hell, like he was a bomb about to explode. He charged at Endevour, tackling the man in a bear hug, refusing to let go

"Shoto isn't just a child, he is my greatest creation, he will surpass everything I, you, all his suffering, every bit of pain I gave him will drive him forward!" The speaking was a manic and Toya wanted him dead. He didn't care what method it took to get it

"You're a fucking monster, I'm going to take you down to hell," he said as the fire snaked along Endeavour’s body. Toya wasn't expecting to wake up he thought that would be the last thing he saw, his father's burnt body beneath his

Fuyumi was at his side, holding his hand. Shoto and Natsuo were on either side of her, and as his eyes flickered open, she gripped him even tighter

"Toya, oh my gosh, you're awake, you're awake, Natsuo, get a nurse!" he nodded and raced out of the room

"What's going on?" He asked, and Fuyumi looked at Shoto

"Shoto, here, go get yourself some Soba," she said, handing him several notes. He nodded and left the room, leaving them alone

"Toya, you've been out for a week. Honestly, the doctors weren't sure you'd wake up at all. Dad's been arrested, and apparently, he was involved in a lot of shit we didn't know about, but he's going to jail, although he hasn't been sentenced yet, so how long, I'm not sure. The HPSC wants to work with us and help us relocate safely, since well. A lot of people want answers, oh, and also, we know where Mom is now, although they kinda don't want us visiting for a bit, at least until things calm down and she's more stable

"Fuyumi," Toya said, and she looked

"I've been up less than a minute. Can you let me breathe a little?" He asked, and she quickly apologized

"I'm sorry, just so much has happened. Oh, also Shoto's doing better, we've had a doctor look at it, and well, it's gonna scar, but well, um." She paused, looking down at Toya, his whole body covered in casts and gauze

"Toya, when they found you, you basically burnt all your skin off your body. Since you've been out, you've been in and out of surgery to try and patch you up, but from what I've seen, it's not pretty." She said, and he nodded

"It's fine if I'm still kicking, it's cool, and that's something I can think about later. I need a nap." He said, closing his eyes

That's pretty much everything." Fuyumi finished the story, making sure to leave out any details that could relate to Endeavour. Inko stared. She was, well, she wasn't sure how to phrase a response.

"I, I shouldn't have said anything, it's not exactly small talk," Fuyumi said, but Inko shook her head

"No, I'm glad you told me. If you ever need anything, Fuyumi, don't be afraid to ask, ok?" The teen nodded, she couldn't help but hug her

"Thank you

Chapter 5: The Three Muskiteers

Summary:

The party continues

Chapter Text

"Kachan! You're here!" Izuku cheered as the boy strode into the apartment.
"The party starts now." He said as they returned to Izuku's room.

"All right, as members of the Bakugo agency, we need to find a secret base!" Kachan said as the boys sat on the floor of Izuku's room. Shoto raised his hand with a question.
"Why are we the Bakugo agency anyway?" He asked, and Kachan scoffed as though the answer was obvious.
"Well, you two are gonna be my sidekicks." Shoto shook his head.
"I'm not gonna be a sidekick," He said, and Kachan crossed his arms.
"Between the three of us, I'm the strongest!" Kachan said with crackles of explosions coming from his hand. He then turned to Izuku.
"Izuku, where gonna be the Bakugo agency, right!" He said, but Izuku turned away.
"I wouldn't mind changing the name." He said, and Kachan crossed his arms.
"But!" He wanted to argue, but words couldn't form.
"How about the All Might agency!" Izuku sudjested. But Kachan scoffed.
"Um, no, that's stupid. where gonna be better than him when we grow up?" He said. Shoto then looked at the two of them,
"Izuku, do you have any paper?" Shoto asked, and Izuku pointed to his desk. Shoto went up to the desk, on its surface was a stack of paper, some pencils and a book. He grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil and began drawing something. The other two were confused. They looked over his shoulder, and he showed them, but both were confused; it was just a triangle.
"Triangles have three sides," he said as though it explained everything.
"And?" Izuku asked, tilting his head.
"We could make the name something that shows theirs three of us!" he said with a smile, one Izuku quickly matched. Kachan nodded.
"Fine, it's not a bad idea," he said, which was enough approval for the other two to need.
"Alright!"

"The 3Boys Hero Agency."

"Bakugo and the other two Agency."

"Triangle Agency."

"The Threedom Fighter Agency."

"Triomight Agency."

"Ok, this is getting stupid!" Kachan said to the group.

"At this rate, the Bakugo agency is gonna stick because neither of you can come up with something better." He said, and Shoto shot him a look.

"Well, the Bakugo agency is worse than the other ideas!" he said, and Kachan rolled his eyes. Izuku panicked as the two looked like they might fight. His eyes darted around the room for an idea. He then noticed a book he'd read. He went to his desk and looked at the book.

"The Three Musketeers," He thought about it for a moment, he felt it could work; in fact, he loved the idea.

"Guys!" he cheered, and the two stopped their angry staring and looked at him.

"I got it!" he showed them the book.

"The three Musketeers!" He exclaimed, Kachan was the first to react.

"It's not dumb," he said, and Shoto quickly followed.

"I like it, it's simple and theirs three of us so it works."

"The Three Musketeer agency!" Izuku cheered

"Boy's time for cake." They raced back to the dining room, where Izuku sat at the head of the table. The lights were dimmed, and Mitsuki held her phone recording as everyone began to sing the happy birthday song. The bad singing wafted through the air. Kachan looked annoyed to be singing, but he played along.

The cake was a bright yellow with All Might on it, giving his signature smile and confident pose. Beside him was the text.
"Happy 8th birthday, Izuku Midoryia." Izuku squealed at the All Might cake and blew out the candle. His mom began cutting the cake into pieces, and the boys scarfed it down as they'd never eaten cake before.
"Thanks." The boys said before racing off to Izuku's room.

"Ok, now that we have our agency name, we still need a new base!" Kachan said, and the other two agreed.

"Why not the park?" Shoto asked, and Izuku spoke up.

"It's not fair to turn the park into our personal base, that would be mean," he said, and Kachan nodded.

"Our base should be ours, so any better ideas, anyone?" None of the boys had an answer.

"Why don't we dig a hole, and that could be our base?" Shoto asked. The other two shook their heads.

"What about a Tree house!" Izuku exclaimed.

"How are we going to build a tree house? We'd need help." Shoto said, and Izuku sadly nodded. Now back to the drawing board, the three sat around trying to think of something, any sparks of an idea. That's when Kachan stood up.

"Izuku, Shoto, I have an idea!" He said, opening the window.

"What are you doing!" Both boys asked and shrugged, and looked at Izuku.

"You can get us down safely, I'll show you where our base can be!" He said, undoing the latch and popping the window open with the tips of his fingers.

"Kachan, I don't know. I've never done something like this before." Izuku's apartment was on the fifth floor, by no means towering high, but enough to where a fall could severely injure.

"We'll be fine, if you somehow drop us, I can fly." He said, popping explosions on his hands. Shoto turned to Izuku, a calm expression.

"You can do it, Izuku. I believe in you." Shoto took Izuku's hand and held it tight

"I don't know," Izuku said quietly, his hands shaking.

"I know it's scary, but you've done this before," Shoto said, but Izuku disagreed.

"I've never done it from this high before."

"I believe in you, I know you won't drop us!" Kachan shrugged as he began climbing up. Shoto stated as he followed Kachan's lead and climbed up, Izuku followed.

"Ok, you guys need to hold on, I don't think I could reach you guys from down there." He said as Shoto and Kachan held onto one of his legs. The descent wasn't smooth with Izuku trying desperately not to let go of his quirk and risk all of them falling.

But as Shoto and Kachan's feet in the ground, a sigh of relief filled him.

"Alright, Muskiteer agency, let's go," Kachan said, leading the way. Shoto and Izuku followed as he began walking down the street.

"Are we sure this is a good idea? Couldn't this wait until after school tomorrow?" Shoto asked, and Izuku couldn't help but agree,

"No, because tomorrow we start training!" He said, leading the three of us need to really work hard if we're gonna become heroes together!" he said as they finally reached wherever Kachan had wanted to lead them. A beach, it was covered in trash, but apparently it was a beach.

"We can set up our base here; nobody comes here, so it's perfect."

"I mean, most of the trash here is large stuff, so we could even make a small house," Shoto suggested, and Kachan was more than happy to agree.

"Exactly, it's perfect!" Kachan stated.

"BOYS!" The loud voice of Mitsuki surprised the three as they turned and saw Inko, Mitsuki and Fuyumi.

"What were you thinking?" She asked, and the boys stuttered out an excuse.

"Wait, how did you know we were gone?" he asked, and she sighed.

"Kids and silence don't exactly mean good stuff's happening she sighed.

"Izuku, where were you thinking?" Inko sobbed, holding her boy tight.

"I'm sorry, Mom." Izuku also sobbed; they both started hysterically crying. Fuyumi bent down to SHoto, taking his shoulder.

"We'll talk about this at home, ok?" She didn't look mad, a conflicted look on her face, Shoto nodded.

"Katsuki, you could have been hurt! How the hell did you three even get out in the first?" Mitsuki asked, and Izuku spoke up.

"Auntie, it's my fault, I used my quirk to get us down," he said, and Mitsuki sighed.

"Oh my god, Katsuki, what would have happened if you were dropped, if you fell from five stories up?" She asked him, and he looked away, but her matching red eyes didn't leave him.

"I could have been hurt," he said, and she nodded.

"Yes, none of you have proper control of your quirks yet. This was extremely dangerous, and that goes for all of you." All three boys nodded.

"So you're telling me, Shoto and his friends flew out the window to sneak out?" Toya cackled on the couch, and Fuyumi sighed.

"Yes, and it's not funny, Toya," she said, and he was ruffling his hair.

"Oh man, that's amazing," he laughed.

"Toya, Shoto's never done something like this before. Is he ok? Oh gosh." Fuyumi started hyperventilating, but he calmly took her arm and waited for her to calm down a bit before speaking.

"What if this is a good thing?" Toya asked, his simple question landed him a slap on the arm.

"How is this a good thing?" She asked, baffled as to how Toya could have that thought even cross his mind.

"I mean, think about it, Shoto's whole life, Dad's been telling him how to be. Today he did something he has enough sense to know is wrong, and I agree, I don't want him flying out windows, but in a weird way its also progress." Fuyumi paused, taking in his thoughts.

"You're not wrong." She said, both of them noticing that Natsuo and Shoto's door was cracked open.

"Just come out if you're gonna eavesdrop," Toya said. The two bashfully came out.

"Sorry for eavesdropping, Shoto said what happened and well..." He paused, unsure how to respond.

"I'm sorry," Shoto said, and Toya roughed up his hair.

"It's ok, don't try to sneak out by flying out of a window any time soon, K?" He asked, and Shoto nodded. Toya then had a bright smile on his face as he opened his mouth

"Anyway, let's get ice cream!"

Chapter Text

"You don't need to drive me, Toya, please," Shoto asked as He did the final button of his jacket. Toya scoffed at the Shoto's question.
"Nah, the least I can do is drive you," he said, wrapping an arm around his younger brother. He then turned to Natsuo.
"Come on! I want to drive you guys!" He said, and Natsuo gave up. The younger two gave eachother a look of defeat.
"Do you think he'll crash?" Shoto asked deadpaned and Natsuo shrugged.
"Let's hope we survive, I wanna make it to graduation, you know." The two nodded, and Toya huffed.
"I'm not that bad!" He exclaimed, and they both tilted their heads.
"Let's just go, Fuyumi, do you need a ride to work?" he asked, but she quickly shook her head no.
"No no no I'm good!" She said quickly
"If Toya crashes the car remeber the crash safety course, ok!" She said, racing out the door.
"Wait, you guys tooka crash safety course?!" Toya exclaimed, and Shoto nodded.
"We need to be as safe as possible on the road," he said, and Natsuo finished his sentence.

"Especially when you're driving, Toya." The two fists bumped, and Natsuo had a cheeky grin.

"Oi, where the hell is Shoto!" Kachan asked as the two passed by, where they normally waited for the white-haired boy. Izuku cocked his head.

"Did you not read the group chat?" he asked.

"Why the hell would I read that piece of crap?" And Izuku sighed in response.

"Toya's driving him today, he said to wish him luck." He said, and a chill ran down both of their spines, knowing the disaster on the road that was Toya.

"Allright guys, get in!" The car wasn't special by any means, a simple black car with a trunk and hood, four doors and seats. Natsuo and Shoto sat in the back, and Toya got in front and turned the car on.

"Should we have the window open as an escape route?" Shoto asked, and Natsuo nodded.

"That's a good plan," he said, and Toya turned around.

"Come on, guys im not that bad! I swear whoever started this Toya is bad at driving thing is gonna eat fire!" he said as he pressed down, ready to start. The two in the back readied themselves for sudden speed, but nothing happened.

"Wait, did the care break? Are we saved!" Natsuo asked, looking to the sky as though some higher being had saved them.

"Oops, I just pressed the brake." And immediately, both boys were pressed against the seat as they started speeding. Wind rushed in through the open window, making it feel as though they were in an open plane. However, they then noticed Toya's phone go off, and he picked up.

"What the hell, man!" Natsuo screamed.

"Hold on im on a call," he said nodding to whoever was on the other line. He hung up and made a sharp turn. Shoto fell into Natsuo abruptly.

"Hey your going the wrong way, man!" Natsuo said as their school became further away.

"Got a call, gotta go do my thing," he said, as they blasted through the city like a rocket.

"Are you sure this is safe?" Shoto asked, and Toya fully turned around to face him.

"I mean I gotta go save the day and stuff, we gotta hurry."

"Turn the fuck around!" Natsuo screamed. Toya gave a fucking thumbs up before turning around to drive.

"Aw man, that sucks," Izuku said, putting his phone away.

"Huh whats going on now? Did they fucking crash? It's about time that road disaster did," Kachan asked, and Izuku shook his head.

"No, aparently their was a villain attack, so they're going to deal with that." He said, and Kachan rolled his eyes.

"I bet he's gonna crash into the villain." He said with a devilish look on his face.

"I doubt it, he's the worst driver in the world, but he hasn't crashed yet." Izuku quickly said, but Kachan angrily looked at him.

"He hasn't crashed yet, morron! I swear he bribed someone because even Shoto can drive better than that guy!"

"Where closing in, guys! Let's pick up the pace!" He said, revving the engine.

"Natsuo, if I die, make sure Toya doesn't get my instant soba noodles," he said, and Natsuo stared baffled at the dry calmness of his brother.

"How is that your priority right now?"  Natsuo screamed as they sharply turned. This time, Natsuo felt the pull sideways and gripped the side so he wouldn't fall on Shoto.

"Because its my most valuable possession."

"Yeah, soba rocks especially when you eat it cold, he said after school we should get soba! Your friends can come to." Shoto nodded.

"If you don't kill us, that could be fun,"  Shoto said, and Toya huffed, not even arguing about his driving skills.

"Oh, hey, where here!" said, seeing the villain in the middle of the road giving some kinda of speech to the hero first to arrive on the scene.

"Hey Toya, are you gonna park?" Natsuo asked, fearing the answer. The answer he feared was in the form of the villain on their hood as the spead through the area.

"What the hell, man!"

"Is this legal?"

"Chill, this is how a professional does his job," he said, resting his arms behind his head as they kept moving.

"Shot quickly reached over and began turning the wheel to stop themselves from crashing.

"Toya, press the freaking brakes!" Natsuo screamed, and Toya paused, gave a thumbs up again before doing it.

As Natsuo crawled out of the car, pulling Shoto out with him, the relief on solid ground that didn't move 40 miles an hour was safety.

"Hey, you got the guy!" The voice of someone came from above.

"God!" Natsuo asked, looking up to instead find bright red wings.

"Close enough," Hawks said, landing on the ground.

"Good job watching the guy, you really caught everyone off guard," he said. The boys turned and found Toya tying him up.

"See, guys im a good driver," he said. Toya, Natsuo and Hawks couldn't tell if he was failing to be funny or just dense.

"Thanks, Blue Phyonix, for the help." A swarm of fan girls raced over to them alongside police and media.

"Hey, since you caught the guy, you deal with that," Hawks said, pushing Toya towards the crowd.

"I'll take these guys to school, deal." Without another word, Shoto and Natsuo were in the air, feathers hooking onto their jackets, pulling them through the sky.

"You know I should probably be scared, but honestly, after that, this somehow feels safer." Natsuo said, looking down at the ground."

"We all have our talents, and Toya's isn't driving." He said, and both boys laughed.

"Huh?" Izuku asked, looking down at his phone. He opened the window next to him and looked out.

"What are you doing?" Kachan asked, and he showed him the message.

Open a window in the classroom, will be there soon: Both boys looked confused and took their seats. Suddenly, Shoto flew in through the window and waved goodbye and taking his seat.

"What the hell!" Kachan yelled.

"Oh, Hawks dropped me off. The mention of the number 4 years brought stars to the eyes of many of the students, but the teacher quickly quieted them down.

"Calm down, everyone. Remember, we still need to talk about the school festival."
