Chapter Text
Ever since Lithuania freed himself from the Soviet Union, he had been living in his own house. It was pretty tiny, but he was never the one for luxuries, so he didn't mind it. His bed was also pretty small and this morning, it was strangely smaller than usual.
Lithuania felt around, realising he was on the edge of the bed. How weird, he wasn't a restless sleeper, he usually kept pretty still.
When he turned around to try and roll back into the sheets, he bumped into something warm. His hand landed on whatever it was and he felt a strange material, one that did not match his blanket or any pillow's case he had. He slowly opened his eyes, his vision still blurry, but when his sight returned back to normal he felt his heart drop as he realised somebody else was in his bed.
"Ohmygod-" Lithuania slapped a hand over his mouth, biting hard on his skin as to not let out a sound. Whoever they were, they were clearly still asleep.
They didn't look like anyone Lithuania knew, which was both somehow good and bad, that was until he looked closer, noticing how similar their appearance was to his. The only key differences at the moment was their tied up blonde hair and the dark blue uniform they were wearing.
Lithuania felt strangely intrigued, who was this person?
But then, a sense of dread washed over him as he watched them start to stir from their slumber and he reached for the pillow underneath his head, before waiting for them to wake up and smothering them with it in a moment of instinct. They kicked and let out muffled sounds, struggling to overpower the brunette on top of them, although it was only a matter of time as they suddenly sprung up and took the lead, throwing the raggedy bag of feathers to the side.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Their voice was familiar, too familiar, in fact it sounded like it belonged to Lithuania himself. "Trying to kill me in my own home? I can't tell if you're stupid or..." Their voice trailed off as they looked Lithuania up and down, probably also noting how similar they looked.
"...What kinda joke is this?" They held down Lithuania by the arms, raising their head and glancing around. "This isn't my house either, why is it so broke looking?"
"Ouch?" Lithuania raised a brow. That was rude, it's not like everyone could afford a good economy after years of terror coming from a certain russian. "I'll have you know Poland is helping me settle in just fine."
"Poland-?"
"You're pressing on my belly and you're going to trigger a stomachache, get off!" He squirmed and watched them hesitantly back off, still on guard. "Who are you?" They asked.
"..I'm Lithuania," Lithuania slowly sat up, making sure not to set them off again. "you're inside my place. When I woke up, you were already there. Care to explain? I think it's quite fair I attacked you."
"You can't be Lithuania, I'm Lithuania, asshole! There can only be one of my beautiful self." The person growled, narrowing their eyes at him.
"What?" Alright, this was just getting more and more confusing by the second. Maybe he should seek help from somebody else? Was this guy insane and just somehow broke into his house?
"Okay, how about.. you let me get dressed and I'll show you the way out?" Lithuania requested, just to be completely ignored. The "other" Lithuania got up, starting to walk around and touch random things.
"H-Hey! You can't just go around touching my stuff!?"
"Oh? And what're you gonna do about it? I'm just curious, that's all."
"More like you're being nosy is what it is." Lithuania also stood up, walking over to him and placing a hand on his shoulder, pulling him back. "Put it down." The blonde had grabbed an antique hand mirror Lithuania found in the depths of Russia's basement thirty years ago. He kept it because he thought it was pretty and reminded him of Belarus. It might've even belonged to her, based on the design — pristine white with a small, also white, bow on the top.
"Don't touch me- Who do you think you are?" The man pulled on Lithuania's hair in retaliation, making him let out a yelp of pain. "Why you little-!" Lithuania didn't get mad easily, but something about this weirdo made an anger like never before rise inside him.
The doorbell ringing caught both of the lithuanians attention, their heads turning towards the direction of where the noise came from.
Lithuania's face paled. Right, he was going to head towards today's World Conference together with Estonia and Latvia. How was he going to do this with this lunatic on his hands?!
He soon registered the fact that he wasn't actually holding onto anything, fake Lithuania had escaped his grasp and was heading straight for the door, eager to see who it was.
"Are you kidding me?!" Lithuania ran after him, but couldn't make it in time, watching him open the entrance and let the sunshine in, plus the two shadows of the other two Baltics standing there and waiting.
"Hey, Lithuania! That was fast, you usually take way too long to answer the door, because you're mopping the floor or something." Estonia chirped, unaware of the fact that it was not their Lithuania who was at the door.
Meanwhile Latvia was quite the opposite, eyes widening in surprise and cold sweat dripping down the side of his face. "U-uh.. Estonia, I think we are at the.. wrong house." He quietly murmured.
"What do you mean, this is obviously his home? Right err... who are you?" Estonia buffered.
"Estonia, Latvia? Why the fuck are both of you blonde," 'Lithuania' groaned. "I already told you that's my hair colour. Dye it back to brown, suits you shitheads anyway. I thought you didn't like me, what're you here for?"
The real Lithuania rushed over, pushing the fraud to the side. "I need your help! Now!" And with that, he pulled them inside, locking the door behind him. He observed his two friends' confused expressions, feeling a hint of guilt for being so brash, but he quickly started to explain.
"S-so.. what you're saying is.. there's two of you now?" Latvia asked, looking back and forth between the older and newer version of the Baltic as Lithuania nodded sheepishly. "How do we separate you? We can't just call the two of you the same name, that'll be so confusing!"
"Do you have a human name, blondie?" Estonia pointed to the fake, who scoffed. "I thought you knew this. My name is Matas. Matas Lauriantis and you better remember it."
"Okay, that's good!" Lithuania exclaimed. "I'm Tolis Lauriantis, so we are a bit different after all.."
"Of course we are! And it's not 'a bit'." Matas glared at him and Lithuania almost shrunk back at the intensity of his gaze. Something was seriously wrong with this guy. "I'm ten times better than you, nerd." He spat.
"This reminds me of the time I dreamed that everyone was a girl! Glad it was nothing more than just a simple nightmare, but" Estonia started speaking and then paused, his eyebrows furrowing in concern. "I don't we can quite wake up from this one. How did you get here, Matas?"
"I fell asleep back at home, after a night at the bar, duh. Then, I woke up to this dumbass trying to choke me out with a pillow!" Matas threw his thumb in Lithuania's direction. "I panicked, I'm sorry!" Lithuania said in response, raising his hands to show surrender. "Stop being so angry..... and annoying. You're in my house, my rules. Be civil."
"CIVIL MY ASS-"
"Ok, ok!" Estonia quickly dived in, standing between the two, who looked down at him, each one with a different expression. Lithuania seemed more relieved and glad that this had not escalated to something physical again, meanwhile his doppelganger was unamused and looked a little offended. "Let's not fight. Because we don't know anything about how to return Matas back to wherever he came from and time is running out, we'll bring him to the meeting with us. If he doesn't cause any trouble, we should be fine, but there definitely will be questions!"
"To the conference?!" Latvia practically screamed. "Are you nuts? We can't trust him at all, who knows what he's planning to do!"
"Stop it." Lithuania interrupted them before they could start arguing, holding onto an already fuming and red-in-the-face Matas. "Let's hope we can just.. tie him down to a chair something. We can't leave him here, but we can't leave him unsupervised when we arrive either. We'll figure it out on the way, come on, help me carry him!"
Lithuania's face fell at the way Estonia and Latvia stepped back in fear instead of helping him and defeated, he focused on restraining Matas by himself, picking the man up in a bridal carry. He was lucky he wasn't all that weak, otherwise he would've probably toppled over. This person seemed to weigh the same as him, ignoring all of the kicking and punching that made this harder than it should be.
"Stop that, I'm not letting you go." Lithuania hissed before looking back at Estonia and Latvia. "Let's get going before we're all late and the other nations get suspicious."
"This is SO embarrassing, I'll have you dead by the end of this week! MARK MY WORDS!"
"It's Sunday..... Now quiet down, will you? And behave at the World Conference."
This was going to be hell until they find a way to get rid of this second, violent, version of Lithuania.
