Work Text:

Tim blinks his eyes open slowly, a smile already crossing his face which has been happening every morning lately. It’s been a long first week as Watch Commander and spending as much quality time with Lucy as he possibly can in between their shifts. He knows there is so much to unpack still, but he has been very distracted with his incredible girlfriend.

Tim rolls over in bed, only finding an empty space, with a frown forming on his face, until he hears Lucy padding around in the living room. He slips out of bed and quietly walks out to find her.

Lucy is dancing around the room, unpacking some more boxes and he can hear her talking to Kojo. He waits until she turns around and tiptoes behind her. Lucy jumps slightly when he wraps his arms around her, but quickly relaxes into him. “Mmm, good morning babe.”

Tim kisses the top of her head and she can sense that he’s pouting. “You left me.” Lucy giggles and turns around in his arms.

“Well, we need to get rid of some of these boxes and you have been a very big distraction this week.” Tim leans down to give her a kiss and it most definitely gets heated. “Tim, we really need to get my stuff unpacked.”

Tim groans when she shimmies away and finishes unpacking the box she was working on. “But Luce.” The small whine in his voice is evident and it makes Lucy giggle.

“We have the entire weekend off. The faster we can finish unpacking, the faster we can have as much quality time together.” Lucy has made a decent amount of progress, but there’s still much to be done. “And there’s coffee freshly made.” He feels a slap from behind and Lucy staring at him with a teasing look on her face.

“You’re evil.” He mumbles. “But you’re cute.” She nudges him to go grab some coffee and he does. The kitchen and their bedroom are the two rooms that seem to be finished unpacking, well mostly. Lucy has way more stuff than he thought, but seeing her things mixed together with his makes him smile.

“Have you eaten anything?” Tim yells to Lucy since she’s not in the living room anymore.

“Not yet.” She quickly tells him. Tim grabs some eggs and bacon out so that they have some fuel to power through unpacking and then showing her how much he truly loves her, again

Ten minutes later, Lucy walks to the kitchen. She’s holding something in her hands. “You always know the way to my heart.”

“I need to keep you fed. I know how hangry you can get sometimes and that is not always pretty.” Lucy slaps his chest and then draws him in for a kiss. “And I love you.” He smiles that soft smile that’s reserved for Lucy. “What’s that?” He asks when he sees something in her hand.

Lucy smiles and shows Tim what it is. “I forgot I had this. This is a note that Jackson gave me when we finished our rookie year. He was so proud of how far I’d come.” Lucy stops for a minute before continuing. “But he told me that I would be a Sergeant one day, well actually he seemed to think I’ll be Captain too. He also told me that you and I would make our way to each other. I’ll be honest, I laughed at him, but he was always so intuitive.”

Tim turns the fire down on the stove and wraps Lucy in his arms. “He was one of the best and he loved you so much Lucy. I miss him too. Do you have a lot of keepsakes from him?” Lucy nods against him and Tim pushes her hair behind her ears. He quickly plates breakfast before it burns and then turns back to her.

“Yeah, I created a memory box. Do you mind if we put it on display and maybe hang some pictures?” Tim kisses her.

“This is your house too, Luce. I want all the pictures you want to be hung up on the wall. I bought plenty of command strips to make hanging pictures easier.” He can feel Lucy relax against him. “Jackson is proud of you and he probably wants to hurt me for hurting you.”

Lucy chuckles. “We’ve had many talks about you.” Her stomach growls. “Well, I guess that conversation is done. Let’s eat and finish unpacking.”

They sit down to eat and talk about where some things could go. They talk about Genny and the boys as well. Lucy manages to tease him about having all types of silverware now that Lucy is here and he just goes along with it (because she’s right). He has missed these moments with her.

Tim cleans up, with Lucy reluctantly going to start unpacking more. Once he’s done, he goes to find where she is and then asks what she wants done next. Lucy gives him the duty of hanging the pictures. There are some from her academy days, her rookie days, Lucy before becoming a cop, some of just the two of them, and of course, some with their little found family. Tim finds himself staring at a picture of them from Nolan’s wedding and one from after she finished her training. “That was a great day.” Lucy’s voice brings him out of his thoughts. “They both were.”

Tim turns to look at her and points to the one from when she had finished training. “I knew that I was in love with you then.” Lucy always had a feeling he did because he looked at her the same way on both pictures. “But I was scared.”

Lucy’s hand lands on his arm. “You have the same look in both pictures. What matters is that we are here now and we always will be.” She leans up to kiss him. “I love you.”

Tim quickly hangs the remaining pictures and then grabs the next box. He starts placing her books on the new bookshelf he bought for her. It doesn’t take long, well maybe longer than expected, but only because they had to be neat and organized by size, not that he would tell Lucy that. The next box is Christmas decorations. He easily puts that into storage and anything else that they don’t need to unpack. It clears out about four boxes and he’s proud of himself.

The next box he opens seems to be full of the most random things. What he doesn’t expect to find is the post it notes he left for her and what seems to be childhood items. Tim pulls out the pile of notes and knowing that she kept these makes him feel so full. He decides to order more and start this again. “Did she really keep this?” Tim wonders aloud when he picks the next thing up.

“Of course I did.” He jumps and turns around when he hears her voice. “You made it for me, even if it was a silly joke.”

Tim holds the very first trophy he ever got her, well he made it for her, with some paper and markers. It says Mid-Wilshire Shooting Champ. He teased her about it but he was proud of her just like he always was. “What can I say, I’ve always had a soft spot for you. I just never realized you saved it.”

“Tim, there’s not much I’ve thrown away, clearly.” She points at the boxes. “But anything from you is in these boxes. I saved everything from you.”

For some reason, he feels emotional about it, but he also falls in love with her more. There are countless trophies and medals from when she was a child and even now, he’s still so proud of her. “You’re amazing.”

“And so are you.” Lucy smiles at him. Kojo is snoring away in the corner, wanting his space back in the house. “We’re getting closer to finishing and we can reminisce once we've unpacked more.” She tells him.

Tim grabs a box that says clothes and brings it to the bedroom. He knew she had a lot of clothes, but it’s much more than expected. When he opens it his eyes go wide and he shakes his head laughing. “Really Luce?” She is currently in the bathroom and walks out to see what he’s talking about.

When she looks in the box, she just shrugs and smirks. “What can I say? I loved sleeping in your shirts and sweatpants. It was also nice to have a sweatshirt of yours. What’s yours is mine.”

“I’ve been wondering what happened to this, but they do look a lot better on you. Although, I think I prefer you without clothes.” Lucy knew he would say that and she shivers thinking of him without his own clothes on.

“You never have been able to keep your hands to yourself, Timothy.” He gasps and tries to argue with you. “Tim, even before we got together, you found reasons to touch me somehow. I never complained, but when we got together, it increased and I love every single minute of it.”

Tim grabs her hand and pulls her close to him. “What can I say? You’re gorgeous and the need to touch you is too great. I know what’s underneath and it’s hard to keep my hands to myself.” The thigh touches, his hand on her back, his fingers grazing hers ever so gently, and his hands on her face. Those small moments are some of their favorites.

“And I love every minute of it. By the way, you can wash your clothes, but as soon as you wear them once, I’m stealing some again. I need them to smell like you.” Tim might need to go shopping for some more clothes because even though Lucy has her own, she most definitely will steal his. Those clothes go in the dirty laundry to be washed, worn, and stolen by Lucy again.

He finds the next box is full of Kojo’s toys. The dog is very excited and steals one that Tim gives to him. “How many toys does one dog need?”

“Our baby deserves the best.” Tim can’t even argue with that and dumps them where the rest of his toys sit.

“When did you even get all these?” Lucy shrugs and puts more dog treats away. “He’s spoiled.”

“Yes he is and one day you’ll be this way with our human babies.” Lucy says easily. Tim smiles but she can tell he’s nervous. “What is it?”

“You still want babies with me?” He is surprised for some reason.

Lucy cups his cheek. “Of course I do. I want to marry you and have those grandkids we talked about on our second date. You’ll be a great dad one of these days.”

“I hope so.” The uncertainty that flashes across his eyes makes Lucy frown slightly but she knows he needs reassurance.

“I promise you will. I’m lucky to have you and they will be too. I’m proud of you Tim.” She squeezes his hand.

Tim smiles at her. “Thank you, Lucy. I keep saying it but I mean it.” They finish putting Kojo’s things away. By two in the afternoon, they’ve finished unpacking. Some boxes did go to storage because of what they are and some are being kept in boxes in the spare room for now, but it’s done.

Tim pulls Lucy onto the couch with him. “Welcome home.” She giggles and leans into him.

“Thank you babe.” She is truly so happy. “I think you need some color on these walls or maybe new furniture.” Tim knew that would happen eventually. “But not right now. It’s just really nice to have everything done. It’s ours now.”

Tim kisses the top of her head. “It’s our house and I love all the small touches that you added.”

A lot of memories (mostly good) have come with unpacking as well. Lucy found some notes Tim had written to her and he had to wipe some tears away. It was a powerful and beautiful moment between them. Thankfully, the ring he bought was safely tucked away, even though she did almost find it. “So what’s next?”

Lucy is the one to ask and then turns to look at Tim. “Next, we start our lives together, forever.” Tim pulls her in for the softest kiss and rests their foreheads together.

Lucy can feel her eyes watering and Tim’s thumbs wiping them away. “That sounds absolutely perfect.” They stay on the couch, talking about their future for longer than expected, but neither of them would have it any other way. “Forever baby, forever.”
