Why'd you only call me when you're high?

Summary:

Daffy leaned against the alley wall and waited, hoping not to be mugged. He smiled, too drunk to understand the implications of this, of anything.

"I'm a terrible boyfriend..." He thought in a moment of clarity and internally rolled his eyes.

Notes:

I was bored, so I wrote this to convince my brother to write too.

Feel free to ask me on my Tumblr @mgh0stie.

Work Text:

By this point, it had become routine. Daffy Duck would go out in the evenings in Towntown to get drunk and drown his sorrows; he drank beer, and sometimes heavier things, to ignore the fact that he was a failure, a nobody. He liked to show off for small things, to show himself superior, to come out on top in every situation.

Daffy thought he was the worst, so he acted like the best.

His vision was already blurry, he slammed the money on the counter and stood up, staring at the double doors that hadn't been there before. The street seemed well-lit, ghosts of light wandered down the street while Daffy stumbled over his own feet trying to get to a taxi stand. His phone vibrated, messages from Lola, Tina, and even Porky, his eyes fixed on one contact in particular: Bugs Bunny.

The messages were filled with anger, hatred, and disappointment. Daffy sighed and opened the texts; it was better to be insulted via text message than to fight in person.

"Where the hell are you?" Bugs' messages sounded more disappointed than angry.

"Here, and you're not here with me. I needed a partner tonight." Daffy replied in an act of courage.

Daffy wanted everything to explode; he thought he'd bumped into Bugs on the street at least three times. He picked up the phone and dialed the number, leaning against an alley. The phone rang for a while until it was answered.

"Daffy Duck." The voice said angrily, spelling out every syllable of his name.

“Hey, Bugs, honey…” He said, his voice completely choked with emotion, the words coming out of his beak in a comical way. “Can you pick me up? I can't get a taxi and Tina hates picking up drunk people.”

Bugs sighed heavily, his voice emanating disbelief. "Why do you only call me when you're high?"

Daffy could hear the jingle of keys on the other end of the line; he smiled. Bugs would always be there for him, even against his will.

"Stay here, I'm coming." The rabbit said and hung up before he could say anything else.

Daffy leaned against the alley wall and waited, hoping not to be mugged. He smiled, too drunk to understand the implications of this, of anything.

"I'm a terrible boyfriend..." He thought in a moment of clarity and internally rolled his eyes.

The night had only just begun, anyway.
