>NEW GAME
Footsteps are approaching as appearing from the shadows is a grey haired, average height middle aged man in a labcoat.
His expression starts with a smile and moves his head up and looks straightforward.
“Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! My name is Ohkido Yukinari, better known as Professor Oak. People affectionately refer to me as the Pokémon Professor.” Professor Oak bows as an introduction and then holds out a red and white ball and tosses it upwards. “In this world…”
As the ball pops open, releasing a light blue horned rodent like Pokémon, a female Nidoran.
“Nido!” Nidoran dives down and Professor Oak catches her and carries her by his arms.
“It is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon, across many regions. For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for battling. As for myself, I study Pokémon as a profession.” Professor Oak crouches down and lets Nidoran run along and stand back in his position with his hands behind his back.
Standing in front of Professor Oak, a silhouette of a spiky haired boy.
“Now tell me. Let's begin with your name. What is it?”
「Green」
“Right… So your name is Green.”
Professor Oak turns around, seeing another silhouette of a boy in a baseball cap showing up behind him, making Professor Oak raise his hand.
“This is your friend. He's been your rival since you both were babies.” Professor Oak sighs as he reminisces the days his grandson and his grandson’s friend are rivals, making Professor Oak think while looking up. “Erm, what's his name now?”
「Red」
“Er, was it Red?”
>Yes
No
“That's right! I remember now! His name is Red!” Professor Oak clicks after remembering his grandson’s rival's ‘name’ and then turns towards the spiky haired boy. “Green. Your very own Pokémon legend is about to unfold. A world of dreams and adventures with Pokémon awaits!”
Finally, the boy is walking towards the light after Professor Oak shouts “Let's go!” Meaning his story is just the beginning.
Pokémon Red and Green: Side Green
Kanto Region, Pallet Town
Putting on his purple jumper and black trousers, putting on a pendant as he sighs and pat his spiky hair.
Leaving his bedroom, he comes across a teenage girl with a similar orange hair colour as she's putting on a labcoat.
“Morning, big sis.” The boy yawns and sits by the doorway as he straps his boots on after putting his feet in them.
“Morning, Midori. So, are you excited about getting a Pokémon?” Midoris's sister, Ohkido Nanami, asks while leaning on her little brother's back.
“Boy, am I? I can't wait to be the best.” Ohkido Midori smirks as he stands up, seeing Nanami preparing herself to work as a lab partner.
“That’s great to hear. Grandpa’s waiting for us.”
Finally, the Ohkido siblings are walking around town as Nanami waves to different townspeople.
As they reach the lab entrance, Midori stops and then leans as he watches the view.
“Hm? Midori?” Nanami halts after seeing her brother not coming inside.
“Don't mind me, sis. I got someone I'm waiting for.” Green said as Nanami sighs.
“Alright. But don't fight when he shows up. Okay?”
“Sure.” Midori said while looking at his sister and then looked up.
He was wondering if his rival is coming over so they can challenge each other.
As Midori and his rival entered the lab, they obtained their Pokédex as they gave themselves a nickname hence Midori is called Green, while his rival is called Red.
With Red picking a Charmander, Green chose a Squirtle in order to take advantage of the battle.
In the end Green had won their first battle, leaving the town as he's ready to become the champion and fill in the Pokédex.
This is the beginning of Green's journey.
Route 1
“Poké ball! Go!” Midori shouts as he chucks a Poké ball at a Spearow, sucking it in a Poké ball as the ball lands on the ground and roll.
1… 2… 3…
Click.
“Heh. That’s another Pokémon caught.” Chuckling, Green looks into the Pokédex which adds another data in the Pokédex after Pidgey.
[#016 Pidgey: a Tiny Bird Pokémon. Does not like to fight. It hides in tall grass and so on, foraging for food such as small bugs.]
[#021 Spearow: a Tiny Bird Pokémon. It busily flies around here and there. Even if it is frail, it can be a tough foe that uses Mirror Move.]
“Great work, Squirtle. With more added to the Pokédex, we’ll not only be unstoppable, but we’ll make gramps proud by being the Pokémon master!”
“Squirtle!” Squirtle agreed as he struts with his trainer.
As the duo keeps moving forward, a purple rat hides after seeing Green mentioning about making his grandfather proud, making him follow.
As the journey continues, Green halts as he turns around, only to see nothing which had him confused.
Then he turns back forward, only to encounter a certain boy in a blue baseball cap which causes him to exclaim.
“What the!?”
“Hey! You’really the new trainer!?” The youngster asks while raising his own Poké ball.
“What?”
“Awesome! Let’s have a battle!”
“Wait! I didn't agree to this!” Green exclaimed.
Before he protested, he knew that it’s inevitable, which means if he can reach the top, then he’s gonna have to battle them all in order to be the strongest.
“Fine. Better not hold back, because I'm about to beat you!” Green prepares himself after pointing at a youngster.
“Alright! Pidgey! Let's go!” The younger chucks his Poké ball, revealing Pidgey as he coos.
“Pidgey!”
“Hmph! Squirtle! Let's kick its butt!” Green shouts, making Squirtle stand as he's ready.
“Squirtle!”
Finally, the battle begins.
“Looks like I'm first! Pidgey! Use Drill Peck!” The youngster starts his command.
“Wait, what!?” Green exclaims as he and Squirtle are hearing this right.
As Pidgey dives, he spins like a drill, diving towards Squirtle, alerting Squirtle to dodge.
“Damn it! Squirtle! Use Bubble!” Green orders as he's unable to process what he's facing.
“Quick Attack!” The youngster counters a call, making Pidgey dive at mach speed.
This hits Squirtle as Squirtle himself yells and then slides while struggling to stand.
Green is looking at his Pokédex, knowing he has to give it his all to beat the youngster's Pidgey.
“Squirtle, use Tackle!”
“Squirtle!” Squirtle charges as Pidgey turns to his back.
“Sand Attack!” The youngster calls.
Pidgey then kicks the sand, hitting Squirtle's eyes as he exclaims and moves weirdly until he successfully tackles Pidgey, making Pidgey struggle to fly due to his wing being messed up.
“No way!”
“Heck yeah! Keep going, Squirtle!” Green cheers while pumping his fist.
“Tch! Pidgey! Quick Attack!” The youngster shouts, giving Pidgey the chance to dive onto Squirtle in a split second.
Unfortunately, Squirtle is at a critical state as he struggles to stand up, only for Pidgey to spin and peck Squirtle, causing Squirtle to faint as he falls.
“You gotta be kidding me!? And even my Spearow and Pidgey aren’t doing good. Damn!” Green yells as he slams his fist to the ground, realising the battle between him and Red are nothing but an illusion.
Knowing he lost, the youngster and his Pidgey are the very first opponents that managed to beat Green, making Green lower his head and clench his fists on the ground.
“All I want is to become the best trainer ever… All I wanted is to fill the Pokédex for gramps and big sis… Why am I the only one that can't do anything right!?”
Behind Green is a Rattata, hearing all this made him feel something in his chest, making him approach Green and stare right in front of him.
“What do you want? Why don't you go back to the wilds?” Green asks, thinking this Rattata is useless.
This causes Rattata to squeak out of refusal as if he's trying to tell Green something.
As Green sits in front of the squeaking Pokémon, Green halts after seeing the gestures Rattata is making, much to his, the youngster and Pidgey's confusion.
In Green's eyes, this Rattata is just like him, always someone better but is trying one's best to be as great as one's family.
Much to his surprise, Green is starting to see the parallels between Rattata and himself, making him look at his own hand.
“Heh. So you envy your rival as well. You even admire your family. I guess you and I are not so different.” Green sighs with a soft smirk and then looks at Rattata, whose tears are hanging on his eyes.
As Rattata nods, he also wants to be out of his family's shadow, making Green sigh and pat Rattata's head.
“Fine. If you beat that Pidgey, then I'll make you my partner. Deal?” Green says while withdrawing Squirtle back in his Poké ball.
“Ratta.”
“Oi, baseball cap. Let's continue this battle. This Rattata is my last Pokémon.” Green calls while standing up and puts his hand in his pocket.
“Really!? That means my Pidgey will get stronger! Let's finish this!” The youngster shouts with joy, making Pidgey open his sorted wings.
Before Green starts, he notices Rattata's movesets being wildly different to an average Rattata, meaning he has ‘Bite’, ‘Pursuit’, ‘Quick Attack’ and ‘Focus Energy’ which could mean there's an advantage to what he’ll do to the youngster’s Pidgey.
“Rattata, let's start with Focus Energy.” Green starts his command.
“Ratta!” Rattata nods and then closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, releasing an amber aura all over his body as he's focusing.
“Hmph! Too easy! Pidgey! Sand Attack!” The youngster shouts.
“Heh. Quick Attack.” Green speaks a second after the youngster finishes his sentence.
Fortunately, the sand misses as Rattata vanishes and then headbutts Pidgey's back, causing Pidgey to squark.
“Now Bite!” Green yells.
As. Rattata immediately bites Pidgey's wing, causing Pidgey to keep flapping with pain and panic.
“Pidgey!”
“Now let go and Pursuit!” Green orders.
After Rattata lets go, he then swings his back legs by kicking his black wave at Pidgey's back, causing to crash as he faints.
“But… There's no way…”
“Score! Thanks, Rattata!” Green cheers, only for him to catch Rattata on his arms.
To his surprise, he's actually feeling something warm for a Pokémon, making him reconsider what he usually thinks of Pokémon earlier.
It reminded him of how Professor Oak carries his own grandson, making Green drop tears as he's remembering what he lost a long time ago.
Rattata then wipes Green's eyes, reminding him that he's about to be the best trainer ever.
“You're right. Let's keep going. Hey, you.”
“Eh?” The youngster lifts his head up, seeing Green kneeling in front of him.
“Looks like I won.”
“Yeah. Here.” The youngster pays 500 yen to Green, making Green chuckle.
“Thanks. Let's hope you get stronger next time.” Green waves, knowing how hypocritical he is, but is desperate in trying to make his grandfather proud.
[#019 Rattata: a Mouse Pokémon. Its fangs are long and very sharp. They grow continuously, so it gnaws on hard things to whittle them down.]
Viridian City, Pokémon Center
“Eh!? You're telling me there's a way to Viridian City in a day!?” Exclaiming behind the caller, Nanami is hearing what Green is saying.
“Yeah. Probably because of the wild Pokémon that are all over the place is why they take a long road.” Green sighs.
“Ah. Maybe I should tell grandpa about this.” Nanami then drinks a cup of tea and then leans closer to the screen. “Oh, I remember the delivery is due in a few days, but luckily, Nurse Joy is sending it to you right now.”
“Really?”
Green turns around, only for a pink haired nurse to show up and carry a box with a Poké ball in it.
As Green picks it up, Nurse Joy bows and leaves, making Green pop open the Poké ball.
Coming out is a brown furred quadruped mammalian Pokémon, opening his eyes as he's glad to see his trainer for the first time.
“Eevee!”
“Eeh!?” Green exclaims, only to look into his Pokédex.
[#133 Eevee: an Evolution Pokémon. An extremely rare Pokémon that may evolve in a number of different ways depending on stimuli.]
“Who sent that?” Green grunts after seeing how attached Eevee is towards him.
“Well, grandpa did suggest that you needed a companion that'll help you on your journey. I suggested that because it's cute.” Nanami couldn't help but squeal at the moment that Eevee is snuggling Green, only for Green to hold Eevee by the forelegs.
“Sis. As much as I'm happy to have another Pokémon added to my Pokédex, but isn't that embarrassing?” Green cringes after the fact that he has to bear with this Eevee.
“Come on, little bro! There's so much potential you could do with this Eevee!” Nanami is still excited for Eevee.
“Also companion? Haven't I got Squirtle? It's obvious my preferred companion is a Rattata I caught earlier.” Green pokes the screen as he's unimpressed.
“I know. But it's also useful to help you continue on your journey.” Said Nanami.
Before Green turns off the caller, he halts to himself, knowing if Red is in a similar situation as he is, making him shake his head.
“Nanami.”
“Hm? Yes, Midori?” Nanami is all ears.
Why couldn't he say how he truly felt?
Why is he afraid of telling his sister the truth?
Why can't he admit his envies and fears?”
“N-... Nothing…” Green answers while lowering his head, making Eevee worried.
“Vee?”
“Oh. Okay. Anyway, I hope you have a safe journey.” Nanami waves as she hangs up, leaving Green and Eevee alone in the Pokémon Center where they're surrounded by strangers.
Green leans on a caller and sighs, looking at Eevee as he's willing to make Eevee his team.
“Alright, welcome to the team, Eevee. Remember, you should get stronger if you wanna beat the Pokémon League. Let's train together.” Green raises his hand, making Eevee raise his paw.
“Vee! Eevee!” Eevee is hyped that he's accepted as a part of the group that'll face the Pokémon League.
Another Pokémon that is now Green's party, making him grin with joy, realising that genuine love is out there.
He will fill the Pokédex for his grandfather.
Route 22
[#029 Nidoran♀: a Poison Pin Pokémon. Though small, it must be treated with caution because of its powerfully toxic barbs. The female has smaller horns.]
[#032 Nidoran♂: a Poison Pin Pokémon. Its large ears are flapped like wings when it is listening to distant sounds. It extends toxic barbs when angered.]
[#056 Mankey: a Pig Monkey Pokémon. Light and agile on its feet, and ferocious in temperament. When angered, it flies into an uncontrollable frenzy.]
Closing his Pokédex, Green chuckles as his Squirtle, Rattata, Pidgey and Eevee are glad to catch more Pokémon and then look up through the mountains from below.
Fireworks are heard from the distance as well as a roaring crowd, making Green clench his fists and look at his Pokédex.
“Boys, let's keep going. Get the Gym Badges, catch all the Pokémon and train to become the best! Squirtle, Eevee, Rattata, Pidgey! Let's go!” Green shouts as he runs from the gate and charges towards Viridian City and then moves to another direction.
“Squirtle!” Squirtle shouts as his fighting spirit is stronger.
“Eevee!” Eevee is excited to fight for his trainer and be stronger.
“Rattata!” Rattata is preparing to make his trainer Green proud and run along with his partners.
“Pidgey!” Pidgey is also determined to face his challenges as he flies alongside Green and his Pokémon.
This is the beginning of Green's journey to become the very best.
