Work Text:
"You know." Rin started, arms curling loosely around Yoichi's waist. He looked bad today, mentally. "Maybe I'll just start therapy. Like when... when that happened."
"I can unironically see that." Yoichi hummed in response and pulled him closer by the shoulders, into a hug. Tight. Where air was just an addition of elements and not a necessity. Where body heat reached into the other body, all the way to the heart and enveloped it lovingly.
Rin let out a shaky breath, "You weren't supposed to answer like that."
Yoichi pulled back to look at him. Rin was giving him a sad smile. He thought that was weakness and that Yoichi minimising to it. But why was taking care of oneself weak? Why did Rin think he wasn't brave and strong? Beautiful. And worthy of every act of love. His eyes were so deep and glassy. Yoichi knew now that it were tears glistening at the edge, but that Rin wouldn't cry unless they burned down the dams holding them back.
"Why wouldn't I love you?" he asked and Rin just looked at him, unmoving.
Because all there was to it, would forever be love.
Yoichi loved Rin, so therapy sounded good if he wanted to go. Yoichi loved Rin, so he didn't have to go if he hated the thought of it. Yoichi loved Rin, so he would take care of him when he failed to do that on days like these.
And Rin loved Yoichi too, because he bumped his forehead against Yoichi's and whispered it back.
And Yoichi said "Come here now." as he guided them back to bed. "You wanna just... stay?"
And Rin kissed his jaw softly as the pillows caught their falling bodies. "Yeah." he breathed so quietly like any sound could shatter this. But even a storm couldn't touch him, Yoichi would not let it.
He held Rin close to his chest, stroking his back in slow soothing motions. "Are you warm?" he asked before they got too comfortable to get up again. Rin nodded. "Wait and did you go to the bathroom?" Did he go?
"Isagi." Rin lifted himself on his forearms and looked down on Yoichi. Scowl and everything. As if his majesty was forcefully torn away from his favourite thing on earth. He looked cute like that.
But Yoichi couldn't care about it right now, he asked "And you are comfortable?" barely above a whisper. Rin was right here — in his goddamn arms — and probably hurting, the least he could do was make sure his body was ok. He was scanned with a gaze so open and raw. As if this four-word question just reached Rin's very core and finally broke the dam. Only a little, the smallest crack behind his eyes. So that the water could pool at the edge, but wasn't enough to spill yet. So that Yoichi could peek inside but not fully see.
But this was enough.
Rin cleared his throat and looked away.
"Wanna switch to the couch and watch a movie to fall asleep to?" he tried to make it more subtle. Maybe it was too early to just sit with this. But The Shining would bring at least one of them a sense of safety. "We could put on—"
"Lay on top of me." Rin cut him off, catching him with eyes. Catching him off guard. Pinning him down with just his gaze. The tears didn't roll. He looked determined and confident, but something about the way his hand played with the neck of Yoichi's shirt was still so vulnerable. He has never done this either. They both had to learn.
But oh, Yoichi would do whatever.
He leaned upwards and connected their lips in a soft, short kiss. His hands ran up from Rin's waist to his shoulder blades with firm pressure and pulled him closer. They shifted awkwardly in small movements as if they were two sloths. Or maybe snakes with how their limbs were irreversibly twisted, similar to their hearts. Could they shapeshift and tangle?
Yoichi placed his head on Rin's chest and sighed. But he was grabbed by his waist and Rin pulled him again, closer, like any space between them hurt physically. "What are you...?" he breathed confused. Maybe it did hurt. The smallest things could when your soul wept.
"Fully, Yoichi." he replied and it didn't take away his confusion. Calling him by his first name also didn't help processing. All information lost in favour of replaying it over and over in his mind. "Weighted blanket." Rin added.
Oh.
"Of course, I'm sorry." he corrected the error and laid down on him, chin on the chest and full weight on his body. Rin dissolved into a smile. He hugged Yoichi so tightly he heard himself gasp. "I'm not crushing you, am I?" he verified looking up. Actually he felt crushed, Rin seemed fine.
He shook his head no. "I don't care." he said. Then, smirking: "You're so small, couldn't do that if you tried."
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
"Shh blankets don't talk."
And just like he was shut up too. But held and squeezed and snuggled, so it didn't matter.
They could spend a whole day like this and Yoichi would call it thrilling.
He touched Rin everywhere. Their bodies were like two slices of toast, but it felt so warm. In no way was this sexual, in no way could this be. And that only made it better. Yoichi thought this might be most intimate moment of his life. No make-out or song ever felt this close. But somehow he felt it wasn't close enough. So he buried his nose in Rin's neck and urged his hands under him, around him. They would go numb but so be it. He needed Rin close and content.
He hoped this felt good to him too.
If the spread out fingers on his back and warmer hands were anything to by, he did. The way he didn't squirm away from Yoichi's burial and only held him tighter. The way he left out soft periodical sighs.
Rin was calm. And so was Yoichi.
He sighed dreamily, asking "Say it again, Rin."
Something about the way he said his name scratched a part of Yoichi's brain. His parents called him that, but it wasn't the same. He said it so softly, so definitely. As if it was light and comfortable on his tongue. Rin's name sure was on his.
"What, Yoichi?" Rin teased immediately in a low and quiet voice. "What do you wanna hear?"
"Nothing, nothing." he giggled. He heard all he needed.
Rin huffed. "Didn't know my world's best was nothing."
"Sush, mattresses don't talk either."
Rin laughed lowly and time stopped. Maybe the world did too, he didn't know. He wouldn't care if it did.
