Work Text:

Tei woke up beside the familiar warmth she’d grown accustomed to sleeping next to for the past few years, except this morning the warmth was hotter than usual, and sweatier. Tei quit spooning Teto so she could flip her over,

“Honey, are you feeling okay? You’re hot.”

“I could say the same to you,” the red head smirked. Tei couldn’t help noticing the red rimming her eyes and the bangs sticking to her forehead.

“Goodness honey, let me check your temperature,” Tei started to leave the bed so she could get a thermometer.

“Wait, no I want you he-” Teto was interrupted by a cough, “here please.”

“Baby I’m just going to get the thermometer, I’ll be back soon,” Tei kissed Teto’s forehead, white hair brushing against red before finally escaping to their bathroom.

Teto had a temperature of 102° and as much as Tei wanted to stay cuddled with her wife, she knew it would probably be best to give her some treatment for her condition. Tei got to work clearing off Teto’s night stand before making her way to the kitchen.

“I’m going to make that tea you like, it should help your cough, and I’m getting you some water, but I promise I’ll be right back.”

“With a piece of french bread?”

“If you think you can stomach that, then yes, with a piece of french bread.”

Teto didn’t need to answer, she just looked at Tei with pleading eyes before she left the room. Tei returned quickly with a tray, two cups, one with tea, another with water, and a small plate of bread from Teto’s favorite bakery.

Teto kissed Tei as a thank-you before the two fell into place beside each other, Teto drank her tea and ate her bread before laying in Tei’s lap to get some rest. Thankfully, Tei didn’t need to work today. All she had to do was sit up in bed and keep herself occupied, switching between her laptop and a true-crime book she’d recently picked up; occasionally Teto would half-awake and ask for Tei’s help getting the cup of water to her lips.

That’s until Teto sprang up, faster than she should have, and stumbled down their hallway as Tei tried to follow and match her pace. Tei finally caught up as Teto reached their toilet, just in time to pull her hair back, fisting it in the back and pressing her bangs up and away from her forehead. Teto’s body shook as she wretched, all the bread from earlier coming up in chunks, and when that was gone she was left panting as drool escaped past her lips.

“It’s okay honey, I’ve got you,” Tei whispered as she wiped a rag over Teto’s lips and pulled her into her lap. Teto began crying as Tei held her in a tight embrace.

“I hate being sick,” Teto sobbed quietly.

Tei didn’t respond, she simply held Teto, hushing and rocking her back and forth until she was too tired to feel so upset at the vomiting.

Eventually, Teto fell asleep like that and Tei used wipes to clean her face before bringing her to their bed, tucking Teto into the thick comforter before returning to her spot and sat up beside her sickly wife. Now with a waste basket beside the bed, in case Tei would have to spring into action again.

Thankfully, it seems, that wouldn’t have to happen, as a few hours later Teto’s only complaint would be that her wife wasn’t huddled beside her in the bed.
