Chapter Text
the rain lightly paddle against the windows when suer finally lets the silence of the cozy apartment settle. rosetoy stands near the door, arms crossed like she's is holding herself together, while chou sits on the edge of the couch, watching both of them with quiet patience.
no one speaks at first. they rarely do when things feel this intense. suer's fingers tremble slightly, and somewhat only chou notices. he reaches over, brushing their knuckles together and suer exhales, tension loosening just enough to lean into that warm feeling.
rosetoy pretends not to stare, but her shoulders drop when he sees them like that. he steps closer, slower than usual. "he's still thinking too much," chou murmurs.
"i know," rosetoy says, and for once there is no sharpness in her deep voice.
she kneels in front of suer, small but veiny hands hovering before finally resting gently over suer's wrists. "you don't have keep everything to yourself baby.." she mutters, as if the confession itself is difficult.
suer laughs quietly,"you both say that like it's easy."
"didn't say that," chou replies, leaning his head against suer's shoulder, "just wanted to let you know that we'll wanna be here to support you."
for a moment none of them move. the storm outside hums against the glass. rosetoy's thumb traces slow circles against suer's skin. the ache in suer's chest doesn't disappear, but it fades during this moment. the scent of his mates calms and soothes his brain into a complete mush. he lets his eyes close, finally allowing himself to rest while the two of them stay close.
the apartment grows quieter as night progressed, suer stays on the couch between them, eyes half-closed, listening to the steady rhythm of two different breaths. chou's light and warm against his shoulder while rosetoy's slower and heavier were somewhat beside him.
rosetoy notices first when suer stiffens again, thoughts clearly drifting somewhere unpleasant. she tilts her head slightly. "suer..?" she murmurs.
"i'm fine." he says.
"you always says that," chou says softly, fingers idly tracing small patterns along suer's sleeve. "even when your not."
the words should irritate him, but they didn’t. instead, something tight in his chest loosens. "i just don't want to mess things up," suer admits, voice low. "whatever this is. whatever we are."
rosetoy lets out a quiet breath, almost amused but not unkind. "you think you're the only one scared?"
suer finally opens his eyes, surprised at the response. rosetoy rarely admits fear, her scent was alway pride, never doubting herself. and hearing it now makes something warm flicker in his chest.
"i don't know how to do this perfectly," rosetoy continues, gaze steady. "but i know i want to stay. both of us do."
chou nods immediately, resting his cheek more firmly against suer's shoulder. "we're not asking for you to be perfect for us. we're just asking you not to disappear when things get heavy my love."
the words settle over him making him still. disappearing has always been easier back then, shutting down and pretending he doesn't need anyone. but staying means being seen and heard, especially when it's the two people he love the most.
suer swallows. "i'm trying." his voice is small and unsure.
"and that's enough," chou whispers.
rosetoy reaches forward again, this time without hesitation, pulling both of them slightly closer until their shoulders touch. the movement is awkward and a little clumsy, but warm. "see? we're still here and we’ll always will."
outside, the rain begins to fade, leaving only the faint sound of water-drops from the rooftops. though inside, the three of them remain tangled.
across the city, another small apartment glows with the late-night. vin sits on the kitchen counter while mino and xay argue softly over how much sugar belongs in coffee.
"you're both wrong," vin says, watching them with a faint teasing smile. "it's two spoons."
"that's too sweet," mino replies.
"it's perfect," xay says at the same time.
they stop, glance at each other, and laugh. mino hands the mug to vin anyway, surrendering the stupid debate. xay leans against the counter, shoulder brushing vin's knee.
"long day?" xay asks.
vin nods. "but better now when i'm with you guys."
mino hums quietly, resting his head against vin's arm. "good. you looked like you were thinking too much again."
vin raises an eyebrow. "you say that like it's a normal occurrence."
"it is," xay says, smiling softly.
vin snorts, but his fingers curl lightly into the fabric of mino's sleeve, holding there. the three of them remain like that close, tired, yet warm.
morning arrives slowly, soft light slipping through thin curtains.
kian is already awake when the others begin to stir. he sits near the window, knees pulled close, watching the quiet street below. he has always been the one who wakes first.
hamy notices when she walks into the kitchen. "you didn't sleep much again?” she says gently.
kian shrugs, though the tiredness in his eyes gives him away. "someone has to make sure the streets doesn't fall apart overnight heh."
hamy smiles faintly at his silly comment, setting a mug of tea beside him. "the world can survive for a few hours without you watch it."
"maybe," he murmurs, but he still wraps both hands around the mug, grateful for the warmth of the tea.
down the hall, muffled laughter spills from another room where muixxu and abby are arguing over music, their voices overlapping. zure passes by them, shaking her head, though the corner of her mouth lifts slightly.
"too early for this," she mutters.
"you're just old," abby calls back.
"i am not old little girl."
"you complain like you are," muixxu adds, grinning.
their teasing fills the apartment with something soft and alive, the kind of noise that makes the space feel full rather than crowded with people.
later, when everyone comes together into the living room, love doc and vincent arrive almost at the same time, both carrying takeout bags. "breakfast," vincent announces.
"it's almost noon?" zure says.
"still breakfast," love doc replies in a song tone like, already setting containers on the table.
they gather into one spot, sitting wherever there is space, shoulders bumping, conversations crossing over each other. kian stays near the edge at first, quiet as always and planing to leave, until hamy nudges his arm and hands him a pair of chopsticks.
"stay," she says simply.
and he does.
across the city, suer wakes to the faint sound of chou humming somewhere in the kitchen. he doesn't move, not at all, confused by how peaceful everything feels. then he notices the weight of rosetoy's arm loosely draped over him.
he could slip away quietly. he used to do that, leaving before anyone noticed, before his attachment towards his mates grew. instead, he stayed.
when rosetoy wakes a few minutes later, blinking slowly, she finds suer still there and gives a small, relieved exhale. chou walks back in carrying three cold foam strawberry matchas, pausing when he sees both of them awake.
"good," chou says softly. "no one disappeared."
suer huffs a quiet laugh. "not today."
rosetoy shifts closer, still half-asleep, pressing her forehead briefly against suer's shoulder. chou sits beside them, knees touching theirs, the three of them forming a small, uneven circle of warmth.
outside, the day continues, loud, messy, uncertain but inside, everyone is still here and no one is alone.
the meet ups started quietly, a casual invitation of someone saying “you should come over” without expecting everyone to actually show up, but in this case everyone does.
vin arrives first, hands tucked in his pockets, pretending he isn't nervous. mino and xay trail behind him, whispering something that makes them both laugh before the door opens. when chou lets them in, the room is already loud with voices.
kian sits near the armrest of the couch, half-hidden, while hamy flips through a playlist on someone's phone. abby and muixxu on the floor, arguing over a card game they barely understood anyway. zure stands by the window, too focused on her phone.
then suer steps out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of snacks and rosetoy appears behind him a second later, placing extra chairs around. chou moves easily between everyone, handing out drinks, brushing shoulders when passing bye.
"im surprised everyone showed up," abby mutters, glancing around.
"yeah," xay replies, "but it feels nice, you know?."
kian watches the room when hamy settles beside him without asking and nudges his shoulder, he finally relaxes back into the couch.
on the other side of the room, vin leans against the wall while mino talks about leeknow’s new song. xay stands close enough that their sleeves keep brushing together.
"you okay?" mino asks suddenly, noticing vin's quiet.
vin nods. "just... didn't think it would feel this easy to fit in."
"it usually doesn't at first," xay says, smiling lightly, "but we're all a little strange i mean in the end, it worked out."
near the kitchen doorway, suer lingers, watching everyone settle in, conversations overlapping again, laughter growing louder. he doesn't realize rosetoy has stepped beside him until a warm hand briefly presses against the middle of his back.
"see?" rosetoy murmurs. "no disasters."
"yet," suer replies, but there is no real worry in his voice.
chou joins them, resting his chin on suer's shoulder for a second before speaking. "they're staying longer than i expected."
"is that bad?" suer asks.
chou smiles. "no. i think it means we did something right and enjoy our presence."
suer looks around again, at kian smiling and giggling at hamy teasing zure, at muixxu dramatically accusing abby of cheating, at vin letting mino tug him toward the couch while xay follows close behind and feels that familiar ache in his chest soften into something steadier.
"yeah," he says softly. "maybe we did."
rosetoy's hand doesn't leave his back, and chou remains tucked at his side, and for the first time in a long while the noise of many people in one place doesn't feel overwhelming. it feels warm, messy, alive something fragile, maybe, but real enough to hold. night falls before anyone notices how late it has become.
the apartment is quieter now, softened by exhaustion and the slow hum of the city outside.
kian stands on the balcony for air, fingers curled lightly around the railing. he doesn't realize someone has stepped out beside him until hamy gently bumps his shoulder.
"you always disappear when things get too loud," she says.
"not disappearing," he replies. "just... wanted to be alone."
hamy studies him for a moment. "you don't always have to be the one watching from the edge, you know we’ll always accept you."
he pauses. "i'm trying," he says finally.
"i know," hamy replies, soft enough that it feels like reassurance instead of pressure.
on the other side of the room, suer sits at the far end of the couch while chou dozes lightly against his shoulder. rosetoy is on the floor nearby, back resting against the couch, scrolling through her phone without really reading anything. every few minutes her gaze lifts, checking that both of them are still there.
suer notices. "you don't have to keep watch."
rosetoy shrugs. "not watching. just making sure~"
"making sure of what?"
rosetoy hesitates, then says quietly, "that this is still real when i look up."
the honesty catches suer off guard. "it's real," suer says.
on the other couch, vin lies stretched out while mino and xay argue softly over which movie to play, neither of them actually pressing the remote buttons. eventually mino gives up, tossing the remote aside and leaning back with a sigh.
"we're not going to agree."
"we don't have to," xay replies, settling beside him anyway. "just pick something!"
vin glances at them, amused. "you two argue like it's a hobby."
"it is," mino says immediately.
the quiet laughter follows after.
hours later, when the apartment finally dims and conversations fade into scattered whispers, chou stirs awake and realizes he is still leaning against suer. he doesn't move right away. neither does suer.
"everyone's still here," chou murmurs sleepily.
"yeah," suer replies.
rosetoy tilts her head back against the couch, eyes already half-closed. "told you. no one disappeared."
for a moment, nothing happens just shared warmth and the quiet presence of people choosing to stay even after all fun has faded.
weeks pass, and what began as messy meetings slowly became a routine no one had ever planned.
on the first warm evening of spring, they gather on the rooftop of vincent's building, blankets thrown over the concrete, city lights flickering around them.
love doc finishes setting down the last container of takeout. "if anything spills, it's not my fault," zure announces.
"you didn't even carry anything," abby replies.
"exactly. easiest method."
muixxu laughs, bumping abby's shoulder, and the two of them wander off toward the railing, already starting another playful argument. nearby, hamy helps kian arrange a small speaker, letting him choose the music this time.
on one side of the rooftop, vin sits cross-legged while mino and xay debate something trivial again, their voices overlapping and gaining volume until vin finally reaches over and pulls both of them down to sit properly and quiet down. "for five minutes pleaseee," he says, "no arguing."
"he's being ridiculous though," mino replies, but he stays anyway as xay pouted with a frown.
suer arrives last, chou at his side and rosetoy just behind them carrying drinks. for a moment suer pauses near the doorway, taking in the sight in front of him. everyone already spread out, already comfortable, already acting like this gathering has always existed.
rosetoy nudges his shoulder lightly. "you're overthinking again."
"just watching the room," suer says with a pout.
chou smiles, slipping ahead to join the others. "come on. they saved us a spot."
and they do. a blanket already waits near the center, hamy waving them over as if it had been obvious they would sit there all along. suer lowers himself beside chou, rosetoy settling close enough that their shoulders touch.
conversations fill the room.
abby loudly accusing muixxu of cheating at a uno game again.
vincent yapping about something no one fully understands while love doc just nods away.
and then there's mino insisting he "wasn't" arguing this time while xay laughs at him, checks flustered red.
zure pretending not to enjoy any of it while clearly listening in while playing crk.
kian quietly passing drinks and chips around so no one has to get up and hamy thanked him with a small squeeze on his wrist.
later, when the food is nearly gone, the sky has turned deep into a deep orangey blue. the first stars are faint against the city glow, but visible if you look long enough.
"we should take a picture," abby says suddenly.
half the group groans. the other half pretends to protest while already moving closer with sight giggles. eventually they crowd together uneven and choppy rows. a few kneeling, leaning, and laughing because no one can quite fit into the frame.
"everyone ready?" vincent asks, holding the camera out and setting it up.
"wait," chou says, tugging suer slightly closer. rosetoy shifts closer on the other side without being asked to. mino throws an arm over vin's shoulders grinning while xay leans in next to vin from the other side holding a peace sign. hamy pulls kian forward from the back row before he can retreat. muixxu and abby squeeze in at the front, zure crouches beside them. love doc tilts the camera slightly higher so no one is cut off.
for a moment, just before the photo is taken, the laughter settles in. warmth brighten in the cozy room.
"okay," vincent says. "now."
and the flash goes off.
the picture showed mismatched smiles, half-closed eyes, someone mid-laugh, someone else pretending not to smile at all. it won't look perfect, not at all. but the moment will simply felt real, a group of people who, little by little, learned to stay and forever will.
as the night calms down and the city hums below them, no one rushes to leave. some sit talking quietly, others lie back against the blankets, giggling small jokes.
suer glances around once more, at chou's relaxed expression, at rosetoy's sweet presence, at vin and mino and xay still whispering away, hamy and kian sharing quiet conversation as muixxu, abby, zure, love doc, and vincent scattered in comfortable presence and feels something settle in his chest.
not everything in their lives is easy. not everything is resolved. but this, at least, is real. his mates, and friends are real.
and as the rooftop lights dim and the last conversations fade into the gentle quiet of early orange morning, they remain together.
