He finally accepted…
…that he was in love with that pink puffball…
Marx didn’t really think much about romance when he and Kirby were younger. They mostly spent their days playing with friends and eating delicious food together. Their friends would occasionally ask if they were in love because of their closeness. But Marx would always deny this. He wasn’t one for romance.
Or so he thought…
By the time Marx was a teenager, he began to feel something different. He started feeling strange whenever he was around Kirby. Butterflies in his stomach whenever Kirby smiled at him. Blushing whenever Kirby said something nice to him or about him. Bursting out into nervous giggles when Kirby gave him a friendly hug.
Marx began to think daily of Kirby and him cuddling together while stargazing. Sharing a huge plate of spaghetti and feeding forkfuls to each other. Dancing on the beach at sunset and kissing each other when the sun goes down. And many other beautiful, romantic daydreams that would leave a huge, awkward grin on his face, which would weird people whenever they walked past him.
He couldn’t stop thinking about that pink puffball. Especially those delightfully chubby cheeks and how he wanted to squish them. He couldn’t stop thinking about their bravery and courage when they were saving Popstar from danger. And he couldn’t stop thinking about how they were friends with everyone. Even their former enemies.
Marx started to get very flustered when it came to Kirby. He began to avoid them whenever they were around him. He couldn’t even be two feet around Kirby without his heart beating like a drum. Was he sick? Was he going insane? The great and powerful Marx couldn’t be falling in love! He just couldn’t! He was too clever and cool for that mushy stuff!
There was something he had to do about it…
Marx decided to ask his adopted, older brother, Magolor for advice. He was an expert on nearly everything according to him. He could check on him to see if he was coming down with a disease or going insane. Because he was definitely not falling in love. Nope! Marx was too smart for that!
“What seems to be the trouble, Marx?” Asked Magolor as he checked the cosmic jester’s temperature with a tympanic thermometer.
“I think I might be coming down with an illness… or losing my mind… or something like that.” Marx said worryingly.
The thermometer then beeped and Magolor read it.
“Your temperature is normal and you seem quite healthy to me.” Magolor replied. He then headed toward the kitchen. “Here, let’s get you some Oreos and milk. Don’t they always wash down your troubles?”
Marx nodded and followed Magolor to the kitchen. Magolor then grabbed an entire package of Oreos from the pantry and put them on a plate. He then got some milk from the fridge and put them in a glass. The next thing Magolor did was put the milk and Oreos on the table as he and Marx sat down.
As Marx began to devour the Oreos, he began to lament about the strange feelings he was having.
“Ugh… I can’t stop having these feelings every time I’m around Kirby!” He cried as he shoved cookies into his mouth. “I always get a weird fluttery feeling in my stomach whenever I look at them!”
Magolor’s ears perked up and he grew a curious expression on his face. “Can you tell me some other symptoms your having?”
“Well, Kirby noticed that I’ve been blushing a lot when I’m around them and my heart starts beating really hard. I always break out into giggling whenever they hug me. And I can’t stop thinking about them! It makes me all tingly inside…” Marx explained as he finished up his cookies and began to guzzle down his glass of milk.
Magolor nodded. “Ah! Now I understand! It seems that you have fallen in love with Kirby!”
Marx spat out his drink. “What makes you think that?”
“You said you have these feeling every time you’re around Kirby right? ” Magolor asked curiously.
“Yeah.” Said Marx.
“Heart beating really hard. Stomach all fluttery. Blushing a lot. You’re sick all right. Lovesick!” Exclaimed Magolor.
Marx thought about it for a minute. He had been thinking about Kirby lately and their deep, blue eyes and their bright, white smile and their chubby, pink cheeks and their kind, warm heart.
He finally accepted…
…he was in love with that pink puffball…
He had to confess to them. But he didn’t know how. He wasn’t experienced with love.
“Magolor.” Marx asked.
“What is it?”
How do I confess to Kirby?”
“Well when I was around your age and was in love with my future husband Pierrot, I decided to ask him to go to the park to have a picnic before I confessed to him by the cherry blossom tree.” Magolor rambled.
“I’ll just do that then. But is it okay if I come crying to you if he rejects me?” Marx asked getting up from the chair.
“Of course, that’s what brothers are for! Good luck out there, Marx!” Cheered Magolor.
“Thank you!” Marx said smiling at Magolor as he walked out of the Lor.
The following day, Marx had asked Kirby to go on a picnic together at the local park. With them agreeing, the two met up by the big cherry tree at the top of the hill. Spring was in full bloom at the park, flowers were everywhere and the cherry tree was full of beautiful blossoms. It made Marx feel peaceful for a few brief minutes. Then Kirby arrived, turning Marx’s peace into excitement and anxiety. They were carrying a huge picnic basket for the two of them and they looked like they were struggling a little climbing up the hill.
“Hey, Marx!” Asked Kirby. “Can you help me carry this picnic basket?”
Marx normally hated helping other people out but his love for Kirby was stronger than his laziness. So he went down the hill to help carry the picnic basket. Albeit with his mouth.
When they reached the top of the hill, they set the picnic out and began to gorge ravenously. For a minute, Marx had forgotten all about his feelings for Kirby. Food was delicious after all! But one glance at Kirby’s face made his face turn a bright shade of red and giggle wildly.
“Are you all right, Marx?” Ask Kirby with a worried look on their face. “You’re doing that blushy, giggly thing again.”
Marx paused and sighed. “I’m fine.” He then looked up at the cherry tree. “There’s something I want to confess to you after we eat.”
Kirby smiled. “All right. I’m excited to know what it is.” They said grabbing a sandwich and taking a bite out of it.
After they ate, Marx decided to confess to Kirby. Cherry blossoms were surrounding them as Marx was beginning to gather the courage to admit his love.
“What is it you wanted to say to me, Marx?” Ask Kirby with an inquisitive expression on his face.
Marx’s heart was pounding, his stomach was in knots, he was once again, turning a bright shade of red.
He took a deep breath.
“I just wanted to say…”
Marx then began to spill everything out.
“Oh, Kirby! I know we have been friends for quite some time but I couldn’t help but fall in love with you! You are such a beautiful and kind person! Will you be my soulmate?”
Kirby looked at Marx for a minute and then blushed.
“You know Marx, I have had feelings for you too for a while. And I didn’t even think you were romantically interested in me for the longest time. It wasn’t until you started acting weird around me that I started suspecting something was up. I’m glad you were the first one who confessed to me. Out of all my friends and crushes, I have never seen someone with an appetite that rivals mine.”
Kirby then approached Marx and gave him a big hug.
Marx smiled but because he lacked arms he just snuggled against him.
After the hug, Marx and Kirby looked at each other with sparkling eyes.
“You want to go eat at that new Italian place for our next date?” Asked Kirby.
“Do I ever?” Exclaimed Marx excitedly.
And that was the glorious start of their beautiful romance.
