I'm sticking with you
'Cause I'm made out of glue
And anything that you might do
I'm gonna do too
No point warning Rashid, Raglan. That ship has long since sailed.
Really like the details here, Raglan mispronouncing "Anatole" and of course refusing to acknowledge that this mess is at least partly down to him. And ooooo Raglan used Amsterdam's authority to greenlight Daniel's book? Intriguing. I'm quite liking this kind of sympathetic/helpful Raglan, although I don't think that Rashid should trust him an inch.
Raglan mispronouncing “Anatole” in Talamasca 1x04 was disproportionately funny to me, so I couldn’t resist perpetuating it and having someone else call him out on it!
Amsterdam and its conflicting positions re: Daniel’s book as expressed in the three IU shows so far is a situation that fascinates and bedevils me, and I’m constantly trying different approaches to making sense of it in fic! Here’s the picture as we have it so far:
1) In IWTV, Raglan insinuates that the Order’s uppermost brass (which we know is Amsterdam) contains individuals who are pro-Daniel’s book coming out, because they would rather the idea of vampires existing be introduced to the public in fiction rather than via world governments breaking the news.
2) In Mayfair, we see Amsterdam motherhouse/head office staff underlings, as well as Annamieke as an admin middle management to slightly higher management flunky, on high fucking alert and losing their goddamn shit about the book being out! They’re not happy! So clearly Raglan couldn’t have been speaking for all of Amsterdam; he played or double-crossed some people.
3) Helen, in a Talamasca episode, tells Burton to blame Amsterdam for Daniel’s book having been published. What the actual fuck, Helen? What the actual fuck, Raglan? What the actual fuck, Amsterdam? Get your fucking story straight. Who greenlit this and why?
It is Velvet Underground, but I was thinking of the cover by The Decemberists (Always The Bridesmaid).
One of the things I like about Talamasca is the sense of a big organisation, with multiple directorates and branches, each with hierarchical layers. None of them know what the others are doing and they're all frantically scheming against each other!
It is a very good cover. I’m not sure why my brain went straight to the source rather than the cover, but there you have it 🤣
Raglan is, according to the Talamasca promo website at least, on some kind of Internal Affairs watchlist. I’d love to know what he did to achieve that.
