Comment on roads left in both of our shoes

  1. ::rolls around in this fic forever::

I adore how clearly you lay out a lot of the issues trans* folks face without turning it into a Very Special Episode about trans* identity. I love that Clint being trans* is just one more item in the big giant heap o'issues he brings into SHIELD with him, no more or less important than his being Deaf or an orphan or just having a damned lot of problems with authority. I love how Phil rolls with everything Clint lobs at him, no matter how badly Clint seems to want to throw him off-kilter.

I would like to have this baby-fic's fic babies, is what I'm saying.

    1. I wanted to be very careful NOT to make it into a Very Special Episode, especially since his gender isn't what the story is about. I think including at least passing reference to those issues is just a realistic part of writing a trans character (or a deaf character or an abuse survivor or a pregnant character), and I hate that there's this expectation that we have to make a big production of talking about it, rather than just acknowledging the challenges that are, as Clint says, part and parcel of being trans. Phil is pretty much the perfect example of a cis person being decent, and I love their dynamic.

...that was a long, rambly reply. Sorry >_> This baby-fic would be honored if you would have its fic babies. :)
