Comment on those hardest to love need it most

  1. He stood up. “Midoriya Izuku has some of the most potential as a villain that I’ve seen in any student,” he said, with blunt force. “He has the charisma, and he has the brilliance, and he has the strong reason to turn his back on society. Do you understand what I am saying?”

Bakugo looked down. “He wouldn’t. You don’t understand how fucking badly Deku wanted to be a hero.”

“And you,” Shouta said, level, “don’t understand how many villains wanted to be heroes before society told them they couldn’t. You don’t understand how little it can take for an abused child to snap. I know. I’ve seen it. Rest assured, the fact Midoriya is no villain is fully his decision. You were the one pushing him toward villainy.”

That reminded me of the movie JOKER and the main character Arthur Fleck. Arthur was beaten and abandoned by society for something out of his control and eventually lashed out. If Izuku developed a mental illness during his 10 years of humiliation and racism, he probably could've turned into a villain similar to Arthur Fleck's Joker. Like Arthur said:

"What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?!"

You get a man with nothing to lose. Amazing oneshot :) I hope you got to watch Joker because it's amazing

    1. I'm actually kinda surprised he /didn't/ get a mental illness from his time as a quirkless kid. I think it's more the creator's (bnha not this fic) fault to some degree. I'm almost convinced he unknowingly wrote Izuku like an abuse victim. It kinda sucks none of this ever gets mentioned by anyone. Especially by Aizawa and All Might.

I've mentioned it before, but I do wish there had been an au spin off with villian Izuku. He had the perfect backstory for it.

      1. What I do not like about BNHA is that Katsuki's past actions as a bully never gets brought up or has he ever been punished for it. Katsuki racist actions towards Izuku could very much constitute as hate crimes.

I think the author of BNHA should do seperate stories like the DC Black comics(Warner Bros is planning to create a movie universe that has darker DC movies) so it's seperate from canon. Like What if Izuku took Katsuki's advice? or What if Izuku had one bad day? There's so much potential for a My Hero Academia Black universe

        1. I'm halfway convinced that Katsuki's behavior isnt addressed because the creator doesn't recognize how he made him OR Izuku? It's one thing to be a bully, have a bully character. It's another to go to that level and consistently go to a higher level. I think its partially due to the popularity of the character, too. Kinda sucks still. He should've been expelled after the second exercise But yeah. I want BNHA black, too. Itd be nice.

          1. actually,it has more to do with the fact that first chapter bullying bakugou was an anomaly. the editor told the mangaka to tone bakugou down so bakugou was made less of an asshole. first chapte rbakugout hat tells midoriya to kill himself is just written as a different charcater than bakugou in the rest of the manga

            1. Hey, can you provide a link that supports this? I don't want to sound doubting or anything, I'm curious and want to read more about this as it sounds like an interesting topic to me and I want to be more informed about the series. I hope you have a nice day and stay safe!

      2. He did develop a mental disorder from everything that happened that mixed with his own mind set. He developed a martyr complex.it is marked by self sacrifice and service at the expense of one's self. He has shown repeatedly that even if it saves only one person ( slime villain vs bakugo, tsu and the nomu, bakugo vs love, kota with muscular, leaving UA to protect the students, ect.) that he was willing to die to do it. It has taken his classmates and staff and other heros to realize that he should also value his own life and safety. He is slowly healing mentally but he does have a mental disorder from his past.

      3. Ehh I'm not really the one to pray that characters develop mental illnesses or have long-lasting suffering from their pasts. That's just really weird to wish for in my opinion, because I'm overjoyed that Deku did not let his upbringing tear him down, and he instead tries to stand tall despite it all. That's who he is. Like, thinking that Deku *should* have been worse off because of his circumstances? No, I really can't get behind that. So I would never ever say it's the creator's fault for not victimizing his character or torturing him because he had bad past. But I will agree with Bluebonnetwolf's comment that Deku's strong martyr complex are the mental consequences of his past.

With Deku's canon character, I think it's impossible for him to become a villain of his own free will unless you completely change his backstory and/or completely change his character - otherwise it's just flat out bad writing. Shigaraki and Deku are parallels to each other in MHA, so Deku would need Shigaraki level treatment to become a full on villain. He would need an All For One type mentor to embrace villainy. If not a villain, the "worst" I could see Deku being is a vigilante, maybe with a greyer sense of morality. His desire to help others will always remain - that's the root of his character, that's all he ever wanted since he could talk - but as Deku, he does see himself as, maybe not worthless, but Worth Less to others, so he's more than willing to sacrifice his body as a "favor" to others.

    2. honestly ? no.
like, the idea that mental illness what eould have turned him into a villain is a big nope to me.

mental illness makes people hurt themselves WAAAAAAY more often than it makes them hurt others.
as someone with an anxiety &panic disorder that has in fact been stuck in clinics for that? saying mentall illness makes people villains is icky at best.

      considering everything ?
panic attacks are something he would be likely to get. depression would be likely. self harm and suicide would be likely. he might snap in self defense. i do believe that in a panic what little survival instinct he has could have kicked in and made him attack bakugou in self defense and attack him dispropprtionatly. if you wanna add bad circumstances and ontrusive thoughts to that I'd believe killing bakugou in too strong self defense.

midoriya has a horrible self image and self esteem , i don't think he woudl have considered himself able to somehow change society ia his villainy unless some grooming by another villain happened. and he considers others too important to just carelessly harm them.

a villain career would be a choice. mental illness from such abuse can make you lash out but a deliberate career and planning and stuff? that is a choice . that is a choice you make based on more than just feeling like shit .

so yeah,no vilain career unless groomed or something else makes him change opinions in a big way.

i do believe he could do petty crime later in life tho. seeing how shitty quirkless people are treated , paired with maybe dropping out of school at some point to escape the abuse and and the mayeb mental illness , finding work could be near impossible. i can see him doing petty crime out of necesity and escalating from there

but in any of these cases mental aillness would not be the push .

      1. 1) Thank you for commenting, it means a lot!

        2) I didn’t mean to portray Izuku turning villain out of mental illness, though I can see how it may have come off that way. I meant that the ostracism and shaming might have convinced Izuku he didn’t belong in hero society, and then he went villain. I don’t actually see canon Izuku going this route, but I can see other people in Izuku’s shoes going this route, which is why Aizawa brought it up. Amen about mental illness usually harming the person, not others. You’re still, of course, welcome to disagree with my depiction of Izuku potentially going villain, but I didn’t intend for it to be a “oooo, mental illness makes you go evil” thing.

        1. oh no this wasn't aimed at you, you handled it well showing that being a hero and not hurting other was izuku's choice. that it was him deciding to be a good person despite a bad enviroment

this was a response to the comment i was replying to which compares izuku to the joker

        2. Hmmm~ Its quite fun reading the threads. Its my second time reading this fic. I hope this gets more recognition because I like how the message of this fic is on point. I dont know and I dont remember if I already gave a comment but I do believe that there are naturally kind people who doesn't hesitate to forgive someone. I think the author of bnha portraited that.

I think its also a good point that Izuku could become a villain with this kind of backstory and have a mental illness, depression...I think.
Althoigh I do think that Izuku has too much of a good heart, to the point maybe if someone killed his mother (hypothetically speaking) he might just forgive the killer. If it was an accident kill, but if the killer did mean to kill Inko, Izuku would probably held his anger and express that through tears. I do think that Izuku's way of expressing his feeling is through anger so I'm not surprised if he will have a broke down while saying or talking to the police who happened to be in charge of his mother's case (A point to why I like the fic the darker sides of deku). With ctying, he might be lashing out his grief, sadness, anger or happiness.

Even if I say that, as Izuku is a really good person, its kind of hard making him do evil things without the fic coming out as an awkward one. The only reason I can think of with a basis from the Canon is his first meeting with All Might, Katsuki's consistent bullying and his absent father and an overprotective mother, Which I can understand, my mom is one too, but you know, crashing his dreams when he was a kid? Maybe develop a distrust for others. I was only recently getting into depths of story since the first time I watched bnha, I was I dont know... A 12 year old? Didnt look at the depths of anime back then.
Going back to the topic, if a villain would be a constant guide to Izuku, like from his childhood, and was separated from society like Eri was, the probability of him becoming a villain because of being disguided is actually true. Second is thatthtough the constant bullying and jeers from peers, his self-esteem got really low. If someone he didn't knew was a villain supported him, I think he'll very much do everything to keep that villain safe. If that person guided him in the right -wrong- direction, Izuku could have a possibility to become a vigilante turn into a villain as he first hand witnessed the dark side of society.
Developing an mental illness can be a cause. Split personalities maybe, like talking with yourself too much and is crazy beneath doen a good facade. Too bad that facade was broken. By someone with a mental quirk. Maybe it can escalate to being suicidal too.
Third could be brainwashing or memory alteration or Conscience removal to prevent Izuku the brunt or guilt of hurting people because he loves to care too much for others that he might actually live with the guilt for the rest of his life for killing.

Uh, I dont know if I should judge though. I've read a few stories and some are not as consistent with character development in my opinion. Well, each stories are unique in their own ways but only a few is quite amazingly written and Spoke to me. This is one of that fics thank you for this brilliant fic!!
