Comment on Finding Your Friend Right Beside You

  1. yeah... "why is this man using his dex instead of str, and good loRD WAS THAT A SNEAK ATTACK? aight I'm out

but techno would be a high level fighter so it wouldn't be sneak attack, just an unholy amount of attacks per turn. Phil's the rogue/ranger, sneaky bugger

and true, Techno doesn't "fight." he battles. And the presentation is such a huge part of that. I'm thinking of the fighting style differences between Karma (piglins) and Nagisa (tech) from Assassination Classroom... Techno doesn't give a shit about fight ettiquete, all he needs to do is land the winning blow. That's the only blow that matters. Thank you, I'd never thought of his character that way and that fighting style is now absolutely part of my headcanon. I'd think he'd be flashier if he knew he outmatched them, but when faced with an opponent of a certain skill, the "fight" becomes an illusion, a series of events for the sole purpose of making the killing blow possible. Good god this is a ramble. y i k e s

    1. "Techno doesn't care for fight etiquette" That's exactly what I mean :D He focuses on the opponent (weaknesses, strengths), goes through the fight thinking of the best way to drag them to a point of defeat. He lets his opponent gain ground, lets himself stumble back, if only to take advantage of his opponents emotions, high on the belief that they'll win (not in the hoglin's case).
Technoblade's catch phrase is "Technoblade never dies" but to his standard he'll never allow himself to lose a fight either. The fights not over until he comes out on top.
In saying that, I don't believe Techno is cruel. You can win a fight with respect. He matches his opponents attitude to the fight (in this case major aggression for the hoglins to admit defeat) and doesn't aim to kill. He's fought people fresh in the field of fighting and only disarmed them quickly to teach them training and skill are important.

He's definitely gotten to the point where he's flashy in most of his duels. He jokes, stays relaxed, flaunts his amass of weapons. It won't happen in this story but the fight with Dream was serious due to an even match of skill. Techno fights hard and pushes for his opponent to get in a bad position (the higher ground scenario).
The final blow is always clear in his mind with each change in the fight.

Thank you so much for the comment! I'm sure you've learnt I ramble too XD
I loved reading this! I only replied today because I haven't checked the comments for a while...
It's so interesting to learn other peoples perspective on characters and it's great I was able to influence your headcannons :)

      1. ohhhh... matching his opponents' attitude towards the fight- I hadn't put that together in my head but it definitely makes sense for his character. He's not cruel, I agree (at least without reason). He is kind and courteous until you hurt one of his own, and then all bets are off. And the fight not being over until he's won is interesting as well. With things like that he will let the other think they've won and then sneak attack them days or months later, or at least so it seems. It would seem to the other like he was getting revenge for a loss but for him it was a continuation of the fight. His logic is simultaneously sound and warped and I love it.
