i think a lot of people made the mistake of assuming that percy would be the way we saw him around vex in the epilogue. i’m sure that the fanon interpretation of him being a softer family man, and still so sweet with vex, is probably accurate. however, we only saw the way percy is with strangers - and the way he is with threats. and while we didn’t see as much of that in the later campaign because percy was around his found family, we did see him acting harsher and also sometimes cruel with people he either didn’t know, or perceived as a threat.
and honestly? i was one of the people who was subscribed to that fanon interpretation of older percy, even though i didn’t get into critical role until january of this year. so while i was caught a little off-guard by how percy acted initially, once i thought it through, i realized how in-character this reaction was. so not only did i want to write up something to counter the people saying he was out of character, but also to work through my process of analyzing how his character has probably evolved over the years.
