I'm elated with this chapter tbh. Storm of Friendship is one of my least favorite episodes of 02, frankly, because it treats Daisuke/Davis like he's completely in the wrong for feeling the way he does and frankly just. Being an empathetic kid as is his nature. In a way that's frankly misandrist as shit? Like when any female character is like "I don't wanna fight", even like, Miyako within the same arc, nobody gives them shit about it but Daisuke is a boy so he's not supposed to have empathy, I guess. In general I really like how you write his character, it feels very similar to how both Yoshimura and the localization staff handle him. On point, if you will.
Also love Ken's stupid fucking plan, canonically he basically just uses his chosen powers in reverse to nullify evolution so it makes perfect sense he would understand the mechanics of it enough that he could also overexpend past his limits and hurt himself to hold a slave at a higher level. I have to ask, was that at all inspired by Ask, And It Shall Be Opened Unto You or nah?
Yeah I'm not a fan of this episode either, it's just weirdly written. I'm glad you like how I'm writing Davis. He's basically the tritagonist of this fic so I've been working hard to do him justice.
I've never read that fic, so I can't say it was an inspiration, but now I have to check it out 😆
