Comment on Equivalent Exchange

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed my take at a Water 7 AU! In all honesty, even canon Water 7 for me is not a demonstration of Luffy VS Usopp: in many ways, it is Zoro VS Usopp instead. At least, ideologically speaking, because their approach at pretty much everything is just so vastly different. That's why I think they're at odds a lot, but also why I think they have a great respect for each other. I think this event changed their relationship for sure, but I don't necessarily think it was for the worse. In my opinion, they've forgiven each other, but also now have a better idea of how the other person thinks and acts, you know? I'm hoping Elbaf really gives Usopp his moment and allows him to show his friends exactly how much stronger he's gotten!
With regards to Zoro's stubbornness, I think this is one reason why him and Usopp clash so much: they're both VERY stubborn, and also have opposing ideas of how to approach solutions. So inevitably, they butt heads. With regards to Luffy, I think he has his moments of maturity, especially when the good of the crew is concerned and he's needed to step up as a leader, and I think this is what he was intentionally trying to do here.
I've actually never read/watched FMA, so I'm curious what the reference could have been!
I love your comment about Usopp's different thinking! I wanted to tie that into the different priority in the way he frames Merry in his head, through his mother. I think he saw Merry as the second chance to save his mother, and failing in doing so was doubly devastating to him because of this. And because he never properly broke down in front of them, they never realized how much he was struggling, and therefore never really got to appraoch the conflict the way they did in canon, leaving Usopp the same (or even worse) than when they began. Thank you so much for reading and for commenting!

    1. No? By FMA I meant Full Metal Alchemist. Have you seriously never read/seen it? Not even a little bit or a reference? Im pretty impressed you managed to write that Franky/Usopp moment then!
So, watching it is a must! Fun fact: one of the characters (minor sadly) have the same japanese voice actor as Zoro
Long story short (with minimun spoilers) the main protagonist try something to bring back his mother from death and end loosing and arm and a leg. And law of equivalent exchange is involved of course
If that really wasnt intencional then is happy coincidence
Now again, a pleasure to read you
