The fact that I could not tell which era of refugees fleeing through the Greenwood this was at first made me think of that expression of standing on untested rock*, and how the dwarves were never allowed to have a really permanent home in Middle-earth. 🥺
Lovely work, as always. I'm so excited that you're taking part in this event!
Yes, the loss of home is a recurrent theme with the dwarves in Tolkien, almost overwhelmingly so. They end up moving from place to place, and no matter how much of a secure fortress they build it seems like something always happens... terrifying in a way. It's one of the reasons I love them so :) Thanks for the kind words, and I'm low-key excited to be doing it since I desperately need to jump-start my writing again. I've sort of been in a slump, thus no works. <3 <3 <3
If you're feeling social and think your slump might be helped by exposure to a small cohort of fanatics, you're always welcome to pop into the book club discord server. We've had some really lovely works inspired by conversations there! https://discord.gg/uBHWeqfUuk
