Oh this is suuuch a great story already, thank you thank you for sharing it with us !!! This is the kind of fic where you feel "this is what I didn't know I needed to read". Lonni's daughter ending up with the only other person who really knew who Lonni was... It could seem indulging and yet it's not, its so very realistic. Everything that you wrote in this first chapter feels so real, like it was already part of canon. I love fic when people take bits and bits of a universe and make it into a very coherent big one, and you made that beautifully here - the empire people getting away with it, the anonymous rebels in moldy places, the mother who doesn't really understand (doesn't want to ?) why her entourage is problematic, "the Mothma", the motivational posters and the banker's book, the overwhelmed justice department, and, oh my, that bit about Erskin seeing all these guilt ridden Imperial kids !!!! Its so so good and really your story is why fanfic is so freat. I came here for Vel and Kleya and you gave us sooo much more to read and think about and imagine - I can't wait to read the rest of it.
Miri is also such a perfect character, obviously her father's daughter for our pov, yet she hates him/is ashamed of him, and she is so full of emotions !! I'm sure that taking care of her will be a challenge for Kleya, I already see the parallels and aaaall the differences between them... I hope we'll learn more about her friend, and the group she put up in her school, and everything.
Thank you, again, for the read ! And good luck for writing the rest o/
Thank you so much for this beautiful, beautiful comment. It made me very happy.
First of all, I'm delighted that you've noticed all those little things — I cackled when I came up with some of them (Sculdun's book on business success, the Mothma) — and had that vivid visual image of the others in my head as I was writing (the Bail Organa poster that Mister Arlanz the history teacher put up in the classroom, the guilt-ridden Imperial kids working so hard to punish their parents).
I'm so glad you love Miri as a character.
I really like that dramatic irony of Miri being 100% Lonni's child —the things that she does are SO LONNI — and yet hating him so much. You are right, it will be very challenging for Kleya: it brings back too many memories and also highlights some of her issues that she was trying so desperately to avoid. Miri's relationship with Lonni will nudge Kleya toward having another look at those mounds of unprocessed, frozen grief related to Luthen's death that Kleya has probably never dared to deal with.
Thank you again. <3 <3 <3 already working on the second chapter
