Juan Cortez knows better than anyone what it means to be guerrilla, to fight in wars both his own and others, to win a revolución and see the not so peaceful transfer of power from one dictator to another. But to be hidden is about more than keeping out of the line of sight of the enemy. It’s about burying all feelings that could interfere with the main cause.To be a true guerrilla, to complete missions and kill without fear or hesitation was to remove all feelings an attachments to anyone other than yourself. The minute you open the door and begin trusting others, truly trusting them is when you end up dead. His rules are there to ensure survival, to make sure any unnecessary risks such as getting attached are eliminated.
Unfortunately, Juan has never been very good at following his own advice.
