Description:

An unrelated series of plot bunnies I had kicking around in my head over the whole space boyfriend fiasco in Agents of SHIELD

Notes:

So during the pandemic, I wound up binging Agents of SHIELD, and fell in love with FitzSimmons.
Since I had nothing to do but watch TV, I went through it rather rapidly. It wasn't until recently that I rewatched it, like in the old days, one episode a week.
And as I was going through season 3, the whole love triangle with Will really bothered me. It's not that I minded the trope so much, or disliked Will (although in some of these stories, it's going to seem that I really hate him), it was the way it just sort of ... petered out. Will dies heroically sacrificing himself so that Jemma can make it back to Fitz, and the two of them ... accept that Fitz is her backup choice and live in bland acceptance ever after?
I know that Dillon Casey, the actor portraying Will was struggling with substance abuse at the time (he even admitted to being high on the set while they were filming) and they fired him, but still, the writers could have given us some sort of closure.
So I'm going to work out some of my own issues, while giving these two the closure they deserved.
As much as I love FitzSimmons (and quite frankly, it's a little concerning how wrapped up I am in a fictional couple) they won't always wind up together in my stories. Be warned.
I'm going to try and stay as true to their characters as I can, In some of these Will Daniels/Jemma Simmons fics, Fitz is portrayed as the jilted lover, sullen and melancholy while Jemma happily moves on in her new relationship with Will.
Not sure if that's a reaction from writers who were resistant to seeing these two transition from friends to lovers but quite frankly I just don't see Will and Jemma working out in the long run.
Also, I don't see Fitz as a jealous prat pouting in the corner. Sure, he'd be heartbroken but I also think he'd move on. The guy we see in season 3 headed to Morocco is not the baby-faced guy from season 1. And he spent all of season 2 being fine with the fact that Simmons hadn’t reciprocated his feelings. Their biggest point of contention was the fact that she had lied to him about her undercover assignment, and then his lying to her about Daisy. You can make an argument that all of that angst was really a deflection of their true issue, but he had seemingly come to terms with it. And in hardly any of those fics do they actually go into any specifics of how Fitz and Simmons would deal with the situation.
You mostly just see Simmons blithely pursuing her relationship with Will
Canon doesn't support this "I cannot fathom any way out of this hurting someone I care about".
So I'm going to do my best to keep them as in character as I can.
Thanks for reading and hopefully commenting.
