Summary
This is meta is based on my 10 years’ involvement in the London scene. It’s designed to help writers who are including scene elements in their fics, particularly post-A Scandal in Belgravia.
It's probably useful to fandoms other than Sherlock as well, so feel free to link to it.

Summary
A lot of us would like a world where it's just as likely that we'd have Vinette Robinson playing a character like Sherlock Holmes, and Benedict Cumberbatch playing a character like Sgt Donovan, as the other way around. We don't have such a world, although people are working to change the status quo.
Still, I see Sally as a lot more than a throwaway antagonist. Far more meaningfully than any of the show's villains are, Sally is Sherlock's polar opposite - to extent that the extremity of their defensive posturing reveals a common humanity. I doubt this symbolism was intended by the show runners, but it works for me.

For All His Grave Imbalance: A Meta on Bipolar Loki by pennypaperbrain
Fandoms: Thor (Movies), The Avengers (Marvel Movies)

Summary
Almost all versions of Loki make a point of his dual, contradictory nature. Bipolar is a perfect symbolic manifestation of that.
The MCU fandom consensus seems to be that he has borderline personality disorder, but there’s an argument for bipolar as well. (Or why not both...)
