“You left me alone to die.” Soji heartlessly stood over him, posture folded, blood oozing from his lips in stringing drips, black in the darkness of the room. His laugh rose up shrilly out of his rolling coughs in disbelief at the way Hijikata crumbled at his feet. “Stand up!” He growled. “How dare you look so pathetic in front of me who is dying. I thought you were a bushi!” His hand slapped over his mouth in order to seal another cough inside, body curling further in agonizing, twisting hacks. He stumbled back and met the ground, shaking while blood slithered out from his palm, leaking down his arm and into his lap. It was bad.
