Summary
“But isn’t it weird that it took me so long to realize this?” Jason asked, his expression still terribly vulnerable. “Shouldn’t this be something I just… know?”
“Sometimes it’s not,” Piper said, trying to keep the trembling out of her voice. Something in her chest was resonating, threatening to spill out, and she wasn’t quite ready to face it. “You know how the Mist works? How it will make people see what they’re expecting to see? It can be like that, too.”
It had been so easy to lean into it and ignore all evidence to the contrary. Piper McLean was in love with Jason Grace. There wasn’t a giant trireme flying over Europe.

After the events in Split, Jason breaks up with Piper. Piper’s world shifts, but not in the way she expected.

Summary
“What even goes in a cake?”
“Flour and sugar, probably!” Piper tried to remember the last time she’d baked muffins with her dad. She’d been maybe six at the time. Somehow, that still made her more experienced than Jason. She pulled a bag of flour from a cabinet she could barely reach. Since the bag wasn’t closed, half of it exploded down the front of her shirt and all over the counter. “…oops.”
“Are we sure we shouldn’t just ask one of the plates for a cake?” Jason asked, cringing at the mess.
“Jason. Buddy. Rule number one: when you mess up this badly, you do not apologize with the demigod equivalent of store-bought cake.”
“Even if you don’t know what you’re doing?”
Piper nodded solemnly. “Especially then. We owe Leo a cake that’s made with love.”
—
Or: After realizing they forgot Leo’s birthday, Piper and Jason decide to bake him a cake. Sure, they may not have a recipe or any baking experience to speak of, but really, what’s the worst that could happen?

Summary
For a long, terrible moment, nothing happened. Maybe they had taken too long with administering the cure.
Jason felt completely numb with grief. He didn’t think he’d ever get this image out of his mind again—Leo singed and motionless and cold as ice.
Then Piper reached out to clasp one of Leo’s hands in both of hers.
“You can do this.” It took Jason a moment to register what she was doing—that she was charmspeaking Leo, helping to coax his soul back into his body, the way she’d done with him after he’d looked at Hera’s true form. “You can do this,” she repeated, more forcefully this time. “Get back up here, or I’ll march down into the Underworld and kick your ass.”
—
Leo trusts Piper with the real Physician’s Cure. But it turns out alive and okay are not the same thing, and he doesn’t immediately regain consciousness. Nobody deals with it well—especially not Jason, who wanted nothing more than to keep that line of the prophecy from ever becoming Leo’s to bear.Series

Summary
Leo was totally fine, in case anyone was wondering.
Fine with the nightmares that had been getting worse since they got back home.
Fine with the fact that Jason’s place at Camp Jupiter, having been built for one person, only had a single bed.
They were just staying for a week. Leo could completely platonically share a bed with his best friend for a few days.
Sure, their shoulders kept brushing. Maybe Leo wasn’t even sure how he’d make it through the first night with the heart palpitations that was giving him—never mind a whole week. But he’d figure it out.
It was fine.
In retrospect, he really should have accounted for his habit of clinging to things when he had bad dreams.

Summary
Jason is sick. Being an ex-praetor, champion of Juno, son of Jupiter, he’s pretty sure that isn’t allowed.
Leo is dealing with some residual limb pain. After roughly three and a half months of this nonsense, he’s forced to admit that that’s maybe a little more allowed than he’d like it to be. Not while he’s trying to take care of his sick boyfriend, though.
