But then came trouble/Tony Stark was not unfamiliar with late-night interruptions. They usually involved Peter Parker limping into his lab at ungodly hours, muttering apologies while sporting bruises, cuts, or some other kind of injury that made Tony’s stomach churn. It had become a routine—patch the kid up, give him a quick lecture about not getting himself killed, and shove a plate of leftover shawarma his way before sending him off to bed and calling his aunt.
But this? This was new.

Coming out had never been easy, but it had been simpler in school. Kids were awful, but at least they were predictable. The Avengers? That was another story. They weren’t just classmates or teachers—these were the people Peter trusted with his life. The people who had saved him, fought beside him, patched him up when he was too stubborn to stay down. If they reacted badly, he wouldn’t just be losing allies. He’d be losing a family.

Peter’s breath hitched as he stared at the crumpled figure on the ground.
Tony Stark wasn’t moving.
The arc reactor in his chest flickered weakly, sending out uneven pulses of light, illuminating the smudges of dirt and streaks of blood on his armor. His helmet had been knocked off somewhere in the fight, leaving his face bare, slack, too still. His body lay at an awkward angle, like a puppet with its strings cut.
Peter’s stomach churned violently.
He had seen Tony take hits before. Had watched him crash into buildings, slam into the pavement, walk away from things no human should be able to. But this—this wasn’t like those times. The suit wasn’t humming with power, his hands weren’t twitching as he tried to push himself up, and he wasn’t throwing out some half-assed quip to let everyone know he was still breathing.
Because he wasn’t.
Or, when Peter snaps and almost kills somebody, bouncing back is not going to be easy. Healing takes time, and sometimes a kindred soul.
