Summary
Thing about Pandora, was that no one ever thought to bend there. Benders weren't sent on off planet assignments, seen as assets of the home world, and countries scrambled to get as many as possible in the armed forces. No one would waste them on exploratory missions. Non bending soldiers severed as fine enough cannon fodder to protect the researchers. That was the first reason, the second was no one knew just how a different planetary conditions would effect someone's bending. Pandora itself had different rocks, the air was comprised of different gases, eclipses happened on the daily. The only constant for a bender would be that water is present on world, but the planet also had multiple moons, so who knows how that would effect a waterbender.
So, Jake was under the impression he traded his bending for a new set of legs and a new life when he became one of the people. It wasn't supposed to come back to haunt him. However, Sully blood is one stubborn son of a bitch and well fate a damned sense of humor as it laughed in Jake's shocked face.

Summary

Tears dripped down Neytiri's face as she swallowed the bitter truth in Mo'at's words. Jake Sully was quick to pull her mate into a warm embrace.
"It's going to be okay," He whispered.
"He's not their champion, he can't fight for-"
"Hey, hey, while they are supposed to be protectors of humanity and keepers of balance, every Avatar's journey is different. We might know what Lo'ak is expected to be, but that could be completely different from what's really going to happen to him. It's going to be okay."
Mo'at hoped and prayed Jake Sully was correct.
