The world reflected both light and dark through Nerissa’s framed eyeglasses, able to be interpreted as something to be grateful for. The world bestowed the moon as her companion, eyeing her as she and Elizabeth signed the adoption papers. The world unceasingly spinned. The world collapsed around her. The world faded away. The world continued on, and so did she.

Summary
NERISSA: War didn’t ruin your ability to be loved. Nothing did. Do you really reckon I’d leave? I could never do that. I will never leave you, or Dorran, or this world—
ELIZABETH: Don’t say that.
NERISSA: You know what I meant. I won’t do it by choice.
ELIZABETH (looking to the left, blinking away tears): Don’t say that.
NERISSA: Alright. I won’t say it like that again. (She trails a stray hair along Elizabeth’s skin until it reaches behind her pierced left ear, then presses a kiss to her wrinkled forehead.) But I’ll mean it. And for now, every day I’ll wake up and choose this. I’ll choose you.
ELIZABETH (tentative in a somber way): Why do you love me, of all people?
Or: Even with the sheer abundance of shared beginnings, the certitude of co-adoption, and the future that love keeps offering, Elizabeth still doubts—with an intrusive tenacity—that she is worthy of any of it.

Summary
“There can be heaviness in monotony but I'm beginning to find the lightness. Let me turn in circles if it means I won't ever hit the glass. It's enough sometimes to know the world exists without you. Like gazing at the stars you can't reach out and touch.
The sun hits the wall in my room and I see it. The sunset invents a new shade of gold and I was right there when the fledglings were beating their tiny wings as they went to the world.”

Summary
“If you came to me with a face I have not seen, with a voice I have never heard, I would still know you. Even if centuries separated us, I would still feel you. Somewhere between the sand and the stardust, through every collapse and creation, there is a pulse that echoes of you and I.
When we leave this world, we give up all our possessions and our memories. Love is the only thing we take with us. It is all we carry from one life to the next.”

Summary
Dorran inquired if Ellis would hold her hand in this vivid mirage of hers, and upon receiving an affirming nod, dared to add, 'Kiss them, too?'
'Kiss them, forever.'
'When they’re aching?' Dorran tacked on to her previous inquiry. Aching, and in need of one’s tenderness?
'Of course,' Ellis assured, all smiles now that they’d found a silver lining amid the most tumultuous topic to Dorran and her poor heart. 'And again when the adrenaline's gone and they're only sore with a faint burn – like the one I get in my calves, except worse, I’d imagine. I know your muscles tend to ache for days and days, and then some . . .'
Or: A collection of slice-of-life moments mostly featuring Elizabeth, Nerissa, their adopted daughter (and subsequent Light) Dorran, and Ellis – her friend since middle school.
