Summary
Six months after Danny drops out of high school and goes no-contact, Maddie finds herself involved in ghost business. She and Jack have never been particularly bothered with the philosophical implications of ghosts — that's a matter for the soft sciences to figure out — but when it's not squaring up with monsters that want to tear their world to pieces, Phantom's awkward. Smart-mouthed in the same softspoken way her own son is. They could've been friends, she thinks, if Phantom hadn't died before Danny started at Casper High.

Summary
Riley, who is the third roommate this semester, peeks out the window at the commotion and asks, blankly, "Um, Valerie, why is there a boy floating out there? Also why is he so bad at Shakespeare?"
It is six o'clock in the morning, and Valerie is entirely too tired for this. "That's my ex. He flunked English and he's an affront to humanity. Not for flunking English, just in general. I'll get rid of him."
Or; Danny visits Valerie while she's in college. More specifically, Phantom visits Valerie's campus while she is there. It was easy enough to write off Paulina's crush on Phantom as hero-worship, but when Valerie's roommate shoots her shot, Valerie has to confront some bitter truths.

Summary
The summer before Danny's Junior year, Amity Park plays unwilling host to unwanted guests. In a surprising twist (or perhaps unsurprising, depending on who's telling the tale), both ghosts and humans step up and fight back against the sketchy government agents.
(Or; Amity Park becomes ground zero for positive ghost relations at the same time Danny Fenton's mental health goes down the drain. The two are only incidentally related, surely.)
