At first, his thoughts completely disagreed with her. He already felt broken—he already felt like something was wrong with him. He felt resentment, sorrow, loneliness all while simultaneously feeling numb. After a second of thinking, his opinion shifted. Maybe he really wasn’t broken yet. Maybe he was just at the beginning of being broken. All he needed to do was allow life to break him apart so he could be reborn as a better, happier version of himself. He felt a sense of longing to become that version of himself, like he was missing someone he hadn’t yet met. “Okay. I understand.”

Sonic wasn't particularly private about his liking towards the hybrid—Shadow was a bit harder to read. He never outwardly stated he liked the azure hedgehog, but everyone assumed so because he was a little extra bitchy towards him in particular.
