Vi heard the remaining muttering die down, and she knew Sheriff Kiramman had succeeded in putting them at ease.
Despite herself, Vi scowled. Fires were their domain, and their previous experiences with the police didn’t exactly make her optimistic about this round.
Still, there was something about the sheriff that made it hard to look away. Whatever it was, Vi hated that it made her want to listen.
