Summary
The City of Hatlynshire is ruled by two opposing forces. The Order of Man, a shadow government ruled over by an autocratic dictator and the Circle, a hidden community of telekinetic people descended from a magic forest, ruled by eight powerful industrialist Barons and their Houses.
The story follows the perspectives of multiple lead characters. Baron Henry Demon, who grapples with the assassination of his mentor, the war with the Order of Man that follows, and the unraveling of a conspiracy that threatens to bring the great powers of Hatlynshire to their knees.
Lucian Demon, Henry's son and reluctant heir, deals with the weight of his family and people's expectations. As his dreaded Initiation Ceremony looms over him, he and his friends find themselves rushing to uncover their parent's secrets and survive the doom that's prophesied to come to the House of No.9 Allison Street.
Anna Dawton, a Circulion commoner living in a hidden Everton Hamlet, finds herself fighting for survival as her home turns into a battleground following the death of Baron Everton. As the Order's Hunters descend upon them, her and her family must defend the Hamlet from complete destruction.
