“Wouldn’t it make more sense for you to sit there?” Mydei eventually says, and the pressure that had built in Anaxa’s chest releases in a laugh.
“Why, are you offering to be my worshiper?”
With the throne of Wisdom now empty, Anaxa thinks how everything comes to an end. But before that time arrives, he can allow himself some indulgence.

When Anaxa begins to turn, Mydeimos blurts out, “Why are you doing all of this?”
Anaxa looks back. Sunbright eyes stare at him with a mixture of emotions he can’t place. For a moment, he lets the tension linger—then, he says simply, “Why not?”
Every century, a new Heir of Strife is born, foretelling of brutal bloodshed brought on by a soul lost to grief. But what young Anaxa finds is not a vessel for destruction, but a boy with bright eyes unbefit for Strife.
As they grow closer, he realizes: he can’t let this cycle continue. There needs to be a way to end this.
