Bear slumped down in his chair as he aimlessly scrolled through his com TCD.
He felt oddly lonely at DC's birthday party. Sure, his friends were with him, but they were all off doing something. DC had been reeled in by a group of people that wanted to–probably–gush at her or something. Alex was god knows where in the massive ballroom. And Jordan. Well, Jordan was currently stuffing his face with the absolutely delicious food at the buffet table.
Bear was so lost in thought that he hadn't noticed someone approaching the table he was sitting at. He jumped at the sudden sound of a chair being pulled out beside him. Looking over he sees none other than Declan Sterling.

Alex’s hands don’t stop trembling for the duration of the funeral service. She hasn’t slept in days, kept awake partially by the guttural impulse to go running after Jordan — wherever the hell he is — and partially by the memory of the precise moment that barely a heartbeat after Aven Dalmarta deemed another teenage girl to no longer be of use to him, she was tossed aside on a snowy forest floor, the snap of her neck still echoing in Alex’s ears. From the stage where her distraught sister gives a eulogy, a projected hologram of Skyla Fay smiles down at them all, silently condemning Alex for the blood on her hands, the devastating casualty of her own stupidity.

Stolen glances in rooms full of people, stolen conversations when they both probably should’ve known better, stolen kisses in caverns and chambers and far-off worlds. He didn’t mind the thievery if it meant having her, but there was some quiet part of him that speculated what it would be like to love her in broad daylight, like she deserved, not just in brisk, fleeting moments or quiet corners where Aven couldn’t reach them.
