Summary
They all said the day would come when the sun would explode, but they had never counted on it slowly extinguishing instead. All at once, at first, creating an icy cold, destruction, throwing the entire earth into an inescapable mess, a chaos to which there seemed no end. And then some of the sun’s surface had caught fire again, like embers bursting into flame one last time. Like a eulogy for a dying star.

Summary
Five hundred years ago, the sun of planet Faux died. The greatest inventors of the era created the Golden Heart-an artificial sun powered by the souls of two colossal dragons.
Now, centuries later, hardly anyone cares about the advancing ice. When Alyss' brother is murdered while researching the dying soul flames, she steps into his place. If her findings are correct, everyone on Faux will freeze to death within five years. But no one wants to listen.
Alyss turns to her childhood friend Aravin, who owes her more than he'd like to admit. Together, they see only one option: they must find new souls to power the Golden Heart. There's just one problem: no one has seen a dragon in over a century, and the Soultakers, the only ones capable of extracting a soul, were wiped out long ago. Only one remains: Aravin's former best friend, who's spent the past five years in captivity-because of him. They decide to break Mart out of prison and enlist the help of the infamous monster hunter Fantoom. But whether either of them is willing to help remains uncertain. Mart would rather see Aravin dead than free, and Fantoom has already taken more from him than his pride...
