"About what?" Kahlan asked, tired eyelids fluttering to stay open as she faced her partner in doom. The combination of sweat and the natural brightness of her hair made Cara nearly glow to Kahlan's eyes, despite her clear despondence.
"You once told me it's a hard world, that we don't get many chances to tell people how much they mean to us." Cara turned her face to her and Kahlan felt a flutter of something strange in her lungs.
It's odd how quickly things changed. Kahlan knew she should be used to it by now.
