She sighs. A resigned sound. Maybe disappointed. Usually, Mikan likes their time together. Nanami was kind to her in the simulation, she can recognize that now. When she realized she was the traitor—well. It was something like a betrayal. But it was also something of a relief.
Nanami wasn't there when the class fell apart. Looking back, perhaps Gekkogahara is right, that it was Junko's prompting that turned them against each other, made them hostile. Nanami would agree, perhaps. She wanted them isolated. She wanted them to love only her. She wanted the only thing that united them to be that love.
But Nanami wasn't there for that. How could she be? She was an A.I., from the start. And yes, it felt like a betrayal that she was Future Foundation, the organization against her beloved, but it also felt like a relief, because it meant she never hurt Mikan the way her classmates did.
A confusing, messy tangle of emotions. She had hated her for it.
“It's okay,” she says, patient in a way people hardly were with Mikan. “What's on your mind? Maybe talking about it will help.”

Summary
Title is a song lyric taken from The Heart of Life by John Mayer. It's a beautiful song that everyone should listen to but it will absolutely make you cry (but in a good way). Basically this is my take on the immediate aftermath of Super Dangan Ronpa 2, when Hajime and the others first wake up in their pods. It's gotta be really disorienting, right? To suddenly go from thinking you're a high school freshman to waking up and finding out that actually you're an adult and kinda sorta responsible for the apocalypse. That's definitely not in and of itself traumatizing, RIGHT? Especially for poor Hinata, he probably got the worst of it! I mean, this poor kid went from thinking he had no talent to learning that, actually, he has LOTS of talents but they're all ARTIFICIAL thanks to a brain surgery that HE CONSENTED TO that basically made him a genius while stripping him of ALL emotions. And then kinda went on to cause the end of the world because of a pink-haired girl with pigtails and sheer boredom. Can you tell I'm being sarcastic lol? Seriously, poor bastard. So yeah I guess this is kinda like a character study/excuse to write some self-indulgent headcanons for Hinata Hajime. Also lots of angst but also fluff/comfort. Enjoy!
