Paper rained down.
That was the first sign.
The second was the white hot pain sluicing through the meat of his upper arm. A boiling spray of blood burst from the wound, spattering the cracked sidewalk. It soaked the cloth of his hoodie. The iron smell coated the back of his throat like bile. Red dribbled off the deceptively sharp edge of the talisman lodged into the concrete mere inches to the side of him and just behind him.
