I found him alone there, amongst the trellises dripping blossoms of clematis and dog roses. He was quite lost in his violin, playing something of a great beauty and laced with sadness, and I was almost overcome. This was my last chance, I feared, to make anything of our future. Holmes startled as I approached him; he must not have heard the latch of the gate, solemn and far away as he was.
“What calls for something so melancholy, Holmes?”
Lowering the instrument, he composed himself a little,
“Today my dearest friend leaves me for London, it is most suitable. Although I meant to keep my gloom to myself, I am sorry you have heard it.” -

Summary
On April 18th 1943, three boys discovered something quite disturbing in Hagley Wood. While climbing a big wych elm in search of bird eggs, one boy noticed that a skeleton of an animal was stuck in the hollow trunk of the tree. Upon retrieving the bones, however, they appeared to belong to a human’s body - a woman's body. The skeleton had been unremarkably preserved and completely intact, if it weren't for her missing hands.
Police would later clarify that the woman - nicknamed Bella - had been the victim of a murder, for they had found a piece of clothing in her mouth. Despite her wedding ring, remains of clothing and hair, they were unable to identify Bella's identity. The skeleton later disappeared, so when the technology advanced no DNA testing could be done.
A year after the mysterious discovery, an intriguing graffiti sign appeared in town, asking the villagers “Who put Bella in the wych elm?”. Since the answer to that question remains unanswered till this date, it is doomed to reappear now and then, plastered on buildings and memorials in various villages in England.
Even in London.

//At first I planned on making these stories a part of my "Angsty Johnlock One Shot Collection" but then I decided to make this into it's own short story because I actually really like this headcanon and I wanted to write more about it.//
[THE THREE TIMES HE DIDN'T FAKE IT]
The first time Sherlock tried to end his life was when he was 19-years-old and felt so very alone.
The second time he was twenty-three and still hadn't found the meaning of his existence.
The third time he was twenty-six and he just wanted to feel something else than numbness.//So basically, these stories are my headcanons about Sherlock's suicide attempts A.K.A the three times he didn't fake it. There will also be a chapter about the Reichenbach Fall and how the people close to him felt when it happened and a chapter about him coming back + the aftermath of everything when he finally tells John that even though he faked the Fall, there were times when he didn't fake anything. Expect a lot of feels and fluff in the later chapters//

Inspired by the song 'Lost Boy' Ruth B this story almost wrote itself...
During a case Sherlock finds himself in a place he thought he should never return to and it triggers some horrible memories of his time at the boarding school and that night Sebastian broke his trust and threw him to the wolves.
Please read the tags and be aware that this is a pretty hardcore piece even from me. A lot of the language physically hurt to write, and does not reflect upon any of my opinions or feelings; quite contrary.
