Nick and Frank have been in a relationship for ten years. Nick would come back to New York every few weeks when he was working for the Vegas Crime Lab. Five years into their marriage, Nick goes to work with the NYPD Crime Lab. He reflects on his time with Gil and the team with his new boss, Mac Taylor.
Six weeks later, Nick was taken from a crime scene while Mac was watching. “NO! LET HIM GO!” yells Mac. Don sees the commotion and tries to go after them but was killed for his efforts. Mac was shattered with what he just saw happen in front of him.
“Dispatch, this is Mac Taylor. I have two 10-13’s at my current 10-20,” says Mac as he collapses to the ground. Sheldon runs over to his side to see what was going on with his boss. “MAC!” yells.

Not everything that ends represents an end. Sometimes an end can represent a new beginning. Claire's death, Peyton's abandonment that marked Mac far more than he wanted to admit-and yet the work managed to save him, to force him not to wallow in memories. And it worked, at least until Peyton decided to return to New York.
“Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, but everything is transformed.” Behind this phrase lies a great truth for Detective Taylor. A murder charge against him, old ghosts returned from the past, kidnappings, bereavements difficult to accept.
Perhaps the love problems were the ones to worry about the least.
