Hannibal - only just passing the front door - hears, and the void responds to them both.

The doors opened, and the Chesapeake Ripper was brought into the arena. However, he didn't look like Will had remembered him. His hair was disheveled and he wasn't clean-shaven like he'd been in the time before his arrest. He, too, was covered solely by a loincloth. Under the spotlights his deliberately oiled muscles gleamed even more like those of roman gladiators. He was bound, a mask over his face and hands chained in front of him – chains that he was being dragged forward by.

Adopt their costumes and pageantry. Form yourself into something quaint but harmless. With his scruff and plaid and social awkwardness and lack of eye contact, Will Graham is, for the first time in his life, normal.
The FBI agents and psychologists knocking on his doorstep won't change that.
AU: Instead of going into law enforcement, Will decides to major in computer science in college instead. Partially inspired by Mr. Robot (only by premise - there is no Mr. Robot plotline).

Whatever Hannibal is for him, it sure as hell isn’t good.Hannibal becomes tired of other serial killers consuming Will's mind. Under the guise of providing stability, Hannibal guides Will into taking on Hannibal's perspective. Hannibal gets more than he bargained for when Will realizes the depth of Hannibal's feelings–and that Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper.
