It might be human instinct to drift out of sleep when something was poking your cheek relentlessly but it was a trainee instinct to keep your eyes shut whenever you were granted a minute of rest. It wasn't a hard guess to identify the blob of dark grey hovering in front of his mattress, he could've easily done so without opening his eyes.
