Jinshi was in serious trouble now. With the Emperor’s children continuing to grow sick and die, he’s not sure where to go from here. The doctors were at a complete loss, and it seems that the chains of his future tighten with each passing day. At least until a young apothecary girl with sharp blue eyes, a splattering of freckles, and was as blunt as a hammer comes into his life. Despite having everything handed to him on a silver platter, Jinshi had lived a lonely and dull life where he learned to hide his true face behind a façade he presents to the court… until he meets Maomao.
For the first time, someone sees past his mask to his true self and she fills his world with color. Jinshi's feelings for Maomao evolve from initial curiosity and amusement to deep affection and romantic interest until he realized he cannot live without her.
This is going to be a retelling of the Apothecary Diaries only they’re told from Jinshi's POV, based on both the anime and light novels. From his first meeting with Maomao to at least to the final episode of season 2.

Why when what was his was removed from him all that mattered was that he got it back or that it died so that no one else might steal it once more.
It didn’t make him stupid however, he knew a man like him had no place on a jade throne if that meant he had to hide away as some sparkly flirty eunuch to ensure his brothers heir so be it. The emotions were non stop and constant among his flowers but to Zuigetsu, well Jinshi now, the only thing he felt day in and out was disgust.
Until he saw her, a girl with same look in her eyes as him.
That cloying nothing that wracked his heart held a hold on hers too. Until it didn’t, until he had decided she was now his, something he would wait for her to mirror even if it meant dealing with the obstinate fools that thought her lesser.
He would make them all pay for every single slight, brushed shoulder, too long a gaze, and heaven forbid her tears too.

Maomao is bought out of her contract at the Verdigris House. Her true parentage had resurfaced, and the emperor needed a bargaining chip over Lakan. So she was sent to the rear palace. Not as a servant, not even as the emperor's consort, but as the Moon Prince's sole concubine. A mysterious figure nobody's even seen. How boring. She slowly learns to navigate her life at the palace. Maomao even makes a few friends. But mysteries soon begin to appear, and the sparkly palace eunuch somehow decides he needs her help every time something crops up.
This work contains spoilers for the Apothecary Diaries anime, but I've not read the light novels, so don't worry about that. And also Ah-Duo stays, because I want to write her in. And I don't like Loulan. I like Shisui though.

It was far into the late hours of the night - early morning, even - by the time he had been freed from council discussions regarding his status change. As soon as the summon had been sent out, the apothecary had come with little complaint.
Jinshi couldn’t read the expression on Maomao’s face as he had relayed the information of the Emperor’s untimely death, and frankly, his own tone had been equally as unreadable. That was, up until the moment he voiced that he had to let go of her.
