Summary
When Rambo was assigned to Baker team, he was fresh out of Special Forces training. His hair was shorn. His face was shaved clean. The first thing he was told: he was going to die first. Barry was there, too, but he’d been with Baker longer. He couldn’t help but to haze Rambo a little with the guys.
From the moment Rambo stepped off the chopper, he knew he just met his blood brothers for life.
Too bad life’s short. Shit happens. Sometimes it happens all over you, like when you have to fish some stupid private out of a pigsty. Sometimes a guy eats rotten meat and becomes a goddamn zombie because of it. Sometimes someone opens a shoeshine box and explodes on the spot. Sometimes he explodes all over you and you’re red and sticky.
Rambo can’t tell you how much blood he’s absorbed over the years. Like water, blood does absorb. He’s absorbed Vietnamese blood. He’s absorbed American blood. He’s absorbed his own blood. You know, they really should give a medal for that? Being a goddamn sponge.
What Rambo can tell you is that Baker Team is alive and well. They came together to write this letter, just for you: titled, “Still Alive! The War’s Going Great. Love, Baker Team.”
