She puts those thoughts aside for now, not wanting to spiral. Instead, she looks at Hotguy, “What about you? I’m sure you’re worrying how the city will survive without you for a few days.”
He is a bit worried, Scar’s usual watchful eyes will be in a whole different town. Granted, he’s not just going there to goof off—there’s a legitimate reason why, two technically. The first is because he’s Ariana’s bodyguard. But the second is because of the timing. The Octagon happens to be in the very town they’re heading to, meaning it’s a perfect opportunity for Scar to do some investigating. Yet even with that reasoning, Scar can’t help but feel guilt and hesitation, like he’s abandoning his responsibility.
He doesn’t need to burden her with feelings he can handle on his own just fine. So he does what he does best, and he looks at her with a reassuring smile. “They’ll be fine on their own for a couple of nights.” He shrugs, taking a bite from his bagel. “I’ll be back before they know it.”
Ariana’s newest collab brings Scar right back to where his nightmare began. Surely it’ll be fine, right?
