Summary
The decision to step in finds Colter Shaw zip-tied in a warehouse under far-from-optimal conditions and Reenie Greene’s name in the mouths of the men trying to break him. The FBI gets him out, but the damage follows him into a Denver ICU, where ventilators, chest tubes, and ugly fevers do their best to finish what Boss Maddox started—and Reenie’s hands in his hair, on his chest, and wrapped around his mangled fingers are the only thing anchoring him to the surface.
As December slides toward Christmas, Colter fights his way through sedation, setbacks, and the kind of vulnerability he’s spent a lifetime avoiding, while Reenie makes him a deal: he doesn’t leave the hospital unless he comes home with her. Bruised, stitched, and stubborn, he’s dropped into the chaos of family holiday dinner and, for the first time in a long time, starts to wonder if “home” might be less about where he parks the Airstream and more about whose hands are on him when the monsters are finally gone.
