Raw. Vulnerable. A boy in the desert, screaming at the stars for the universe to listen.
“Angry,” says Keith, keeping his eyes on the ground. “Someone angry.”

Summary
“We’ve never really talked,” Keith says into the silence, and he’s half-hoping that Shiro is actually asleep, that this time apart really did make him less familiar with him, “about everything.”

“No,” Shiro says after a pause, and it’s just as quiet as Keith’s words had been, “we haven’t.”

Summary
It’s sunny out. Bright. Dust clouds around the two of them from the force of the fall, and Shiro thinks that this might not be the worst of places to go out. He’s on Earth, at least, and he never thought he would ever have that again.
I’m going to die, Shiro thinks again, and then, just as before, I don’t want to die.

Summary
“It’s cold,” Keith says softly. One of his hands comes down to Shiro’s face, cupping his cheek and gently lifting so that Shiro looks at Keith. And if Shiro thought that Keith’s touch was tender, it’s nothing compared to the look in his eyes, concerned and loving and soft.
It makes the thing rising in Shiro’s throat stall, and it feels like he’s choking. Shiro swallows, hard, and Keith’s hand trails down to trace the bob of his throat.

Summary
“They’re beautiful,” Shiro says softly. He’s standing beside Keith, hands tucked into his pockets for warmth, jacket zipped up to his nose against the cold.
“Yeah,” Keith whispers. He’s not really sure why they’re speaking so quietly.
And they are. Beautiful, that is. Bursts of pink on white snow, nestled in dark green leaves. Keith’s eyes fall on a particularly dark one, deep red and intense, almost scarlet. He feels Shiro tracing his gaze.

Summary
Maybe it's the way Lance’s voice is, or even just how quiet the room is, but it carries. Must be how he heard him in the first place. It drifts above the soft hum of the AC and Shiro considers that maybe he should've made himself known. Because the sentence that comes out of Lance’s mouth is not meant for his ears.
“Keith,” he says, and Shiro is hooked just from that but it isn't everything. “And the lengths he'll go to for Shiro,” Lance continues and Shiro knows, somewhere along the line, he’s made a mistake. He should’ve answered, gotten up, done something. Hell, he should’ve chosen a whole new room altogether to sit in beforehand. Maybe he could’ve avoided this.

Summary
To end the war they inherited, Keith marries the King he lead an army against.
“You know, we met once,” the king continues, voice closer, and Keith almost turns. They met many times on the field—but then the king clarifies with a single word. “Before.”
Before he was a king. Maybe before he was a general. Keith has traced his rise like the growth of a seed he planted in clay and never expected to see again for how poorly he sowed it. None of this would have been possible without Keith—not the war, not a line soldier's battlefield promotion, not the end of it all, tied up so neatly by all Keith’s best mistakes. Not the killing, either. The king is right about that much, at least.

Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.

Summary
The more it happens, the more he realises: the bayard has given him Black’s teleportation abilities. It’s like travelling with the wolf, but Shiro controls where he goes.
It’s exhilarating.
Finally getting to use the black Bayard, Shiro finds it gives him the ability to teleport. It's the most fun he's had in a long time.
And then it starts bringing him to Keith.
