Atsushi's shame doesn’t need nor want reason. Shame, always inside his torso has been his constant companion since birth. It torments him the same way a tiger craves blood and flesh and bone. That might have been a mercy, honestly, if a beast's appetite was his sin. Instead, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, the bane of his existence, seems intent to be his sickness and sin. Intent to split open all of the depravity Atsushi so desperately wants to bury inside himself.

“I’ve got a centimeter or two on you, for starters,” he said in a such a childishly taunting tone it made Atsushi fling a disbelieving laugh into the space between them.
“Fuck off, that’s hardly any difference at all! Seriously, you are such a dick, I don’t get it.” His mouth kept running, equal parts petty and petulant. “Actually, I bet your dick’s tiny and that’s really why you’re like this.”
Or, Atsushi keeps making bets, and Akutagawa's never learned how to back down from any kind of challenge.
