Summary
Knowing it wasn’t sufficient consolation, Mensah said, “It is rated to withstand lightning strikes.”
“But how many? This storm will last another three days at least.” Tano hesitated before saying awkwardly, “I’ve just never been sure.”
Mensah knew what he meant. The manufacturer said these bots had no self-awareness, but Tano said he could tell them apart. That they each had their own quirks and individuality.

Gurathin plans to leave the Corporation Rim the only way he knows how—death. But first, he’s going on vacation. One last chance to enjoy a few days of life, one last opportunity to screw over the company by handing off a mess of borked data. To stay alive these last few days, he has to at least look like he’s doing his job. And that means getting close to his target, Dr. Ayda Mensah.
